PLAYER INFORMATION

PLAYER NAME: Shit’s real this time, yo. Call me Emz.
AIM & EMAIL: walks with dream and walkswithindreams [at] gmail [dot] com
TIME ZONE: EST, baby~
AVAILABILITY: Afternoons, mostly.
RP EXPERIENCE: ALL OF IT.

CHARACTER INFORMATION

GOD(DESS): Persephone
RESOURCES: All of them. My own memory of myths and stories and ideas, Edith Hamilton’s Mythology, theoi.com... All of them.

DOMAINS OF POWER: Spring and vegetation, rebirth and renewal, death and decay. Hey, she’s the queen of the underworld. She represents both the spring and the fall, as illustrated in the myth The Rape/Abduction of Persephone.
FULL POWERS: As the goddess of spring, Persephone would literally wake the earth from it’s hibernation, breathing new life into each seed and plant with her return from the underworld. And when she went back to her husband, the world would fall into winter. As queen of the underworld, she had a certain persuasion over her husband, the ever stoic Hades, and power enough on her own. She has transformed nymphs in her rage, and sent plagues after countries who disrespected her in some way. She was a fearsome goddess as the Iron Queen of the Underworld.
ITEMS OF POWER: None of note, though she is often depicted in art as holding a sheaf of grain and a flaming torch.
CURRENT STATE OF POWERS: So long as there are seasons, Persephone will not fade. Though people do not celebrate the way that they used to, there is still joy to be had in the return of the leaves and flowers. Plants under her care will thrive and reach their fullest potential with just a little bit of effort from her, or they will wither and die with the same effort. She can bless someone with a green thumb of their own if she likes, or curse them so that no plant they care for will thrive. When she is in one of her brighter and sunnier moods, people feel comforted and at ease around her, as though they were in a warm field on a pleasant day. In her darker and more sullen moods, people feel a chill and are wary, finding her intimidating.
SKILLS & ABILITIES: Over the many years, Persephone has cultivated a great number of degrees from all kinds of institutions of higher education. As such, she is well read and able to hold a steady conversation on a vast array of subjects. She has also developed a talent and eye for art, becoming quite a painter and photographer, though her preferred subjects are landscapes unless they are candid pictures of people.

MORTAL ALIAS: Acacia Volkov
MORTAL AGE: 20
RESIDENCE: Chicago, Illinois - in an apartment with Ira Reynolds and Trip, her dog.
OCCUPATION: Student at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago

PLAYED BY: Leda Monster Bunny [here] and [here]
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Tall, lean, and slender, Persephone’s current look is one of a young scene/screamo/lolita/punk type girl. Any girl standing at 5’9 is something, but one who’s hair varies from bring pink, to turquoise, to black and red, to purple, to blue and white, and any other color combination you could imagine on a week to week basis is definitely something else. She has a multitude of piercings that she switches in and out at her own whims, and her clothing style is somewhat chaotic, mixing and matching things from different styles.

HOW HAS LIVING AMONG MORTAL AFFECTED YOUR CHARACTER?:
Persephone had always been sympathetic to mortals. After all, the seasons affected them greatly, and they were dependent on the gods to help them. While she was on earth with those alive, she would try and make things a little more pleasant for them, helping along the garden of a struggling family, or making the flowers a young man was giving his sweetheart even more beautiful. She watched them as they enjoyed the spring, smiling and laughing and sometimes joining them. And while in the Underworld, she would often persuade Hades to be more understanding of the plights of the recently deceased and the living who mourned them. Living among the mortals has not changed this much. Sure, she has perhaps become a little more prone to skepticism and the like, but it was more a matter of her two personalities evening out: the person she was on earth with her mother and the person she was in the Underworld with her husband.

PERSONALITY: Persephone is upbeat and cheerful for the most part, taking pleasure in being alive and the world around her. She goes through life with a happy, unbiased air, befriending people from all walks of life. While somewhat bouncy and friendly, she’s not the type who’s in your face about it, especially when meeting someone for the first time. She’s warm and tender when she needs to be, and also more than happy to doll out a serving of tough love. Though she’s very relaxed and mostly let’s things roll off her shoulders, she is still proud, being a deity, and has been known to curse people. It’s rare, though.

PERSONAL HISTORY:
Change had never been a stranger to Persephone, and she coped with the Fall and the loss of most of her power relatively well. Yes, things were more difficult now and it was still a difficult transition, but she made it through without too much hassle and heartache. Her husband on the other hand... took it rather less easily. She had been there for him, trying to help him deal with the difference, but he was almost inconsolable at times and she had finally given up. She left the Underworld and set about making her way through the mortal world. At first she merely observed, rarely stepping in, but watching and learning. She drifted through the centuries as a spectator.

However, she did not stay an observer for long. Eventually, Persephone began to truly interact with the mortals she had spent so long watching, joining them though still remaining on the outside, for she was never truly one of them. She mostly stayed in Europe, travelling and socializing, until about the late 1800s. Then she finally made her way over to America. Once there, she threw herself into the culture, blending in easily, as it was a hodge podge, a melting pot of everything she’d experienced previously and something entirely new at the same time. She began enrolling herself in colleges and universities, having studied mortal lives for so long, she wanted to truly live as one. And so every decade or so she would reinvent herself, become a new person and go back to school to have a different experience.

She travelled from state to state, city to city. And finally found her way to Chicago last year, enrolling in the School for the Art Institute of Chicago in the visual arts department. And though she’s perfectly happy, in fact Chicago is one of her favorite cities that she’s been to, some part of her still longs for bits of the long ago. In recent years, she’s found herself hoping for Hades to finally come and find her.

PLOT IDEAS: HADES! I mean. You know. It might be cool. If anyone was interested.
