The Heart that I stole I'm not giving back

MADELEINE HOOKE

Name: Madeleine Elia Hooke nee de Luca
Birthday: June 5, 1953
Blood Status: Muggle
Height: 5'4"
Occupation: Elementary School teacher
Personality and History: She'd never really liked magic. When she was younger, Madeleine spent a lot of her time examining things, figuring out how they worked. So magic shows were never of much enjoyment; the entire time was spent trying to find the trap doors, looking for the mirrors, and wondering if that 'random' person plucked from the audience was the magician's wife or sister. She grew up in a normal household, middle-class, closer to the lower class status, never wanting more than her parents could give her. She appreciated what she had, and wanted to give back, and her grandmother often called her San Maddie.

After meeting Nicholas, Madeleine was positive that she'd never seen the man again. He was incredibly handsome, rich, she couldn't keep her mind off of him, but she was sure that it was how her luck was going to go. But, to her surprise, she kept running into the man, which wasn't hard to figure out wasn't by accident. Honestly, who has that many business trips to a far away country that didn't involve any business? They started a relationship, long distance and not so long distance, and it wasn't long before they grew serious. She'd found the man of her dreams, and she'd also found that he was a wizard. Who could do magic.

At first she thought it was a joke, but Nicholas showed her some spells, and Madeleine was amazed. She asked a million and one questions, not at all put off by the secrets he'd held. It was amazing, but the excitement of learning about the magical world was quickly diminished when Nicholas explained to her the views of many of the 'pureblood' wizards, like his family. Guilt consumed her completely; family was everything to Madeleine and she could simply not tear Nicholas away from his. Breaking up with him was the hardest thing she'd ever had to do, and it only lasted a month before she hopped on a plane to England with only her purse one day after school to find him. Thankfully he took her back, and though she still feels guilty about his family situation, Madeleine is continuing to try to build a relationship with the one sister that will talk to her, and is willing to persevere for Nicholas and their family's sake.

NICHOLAS HOOKE

Name: Nicholas Richard Hooke
Birthday: September 4, 1948
Blood Status: Pureblood
Height: 5'11"
Occupation: Wand Core Extractor
Personality and History: Nick had never been particularly fond of his parents' views on muggles, but he didn't exactly want to be disowned from his family. He was able to keep himself quiet up until he fell - and hard - for a muggle woman named Madeleine. It was rough going at first - the moment he told her his family would disown him if they got too serious, Madeleine broke things off with him and he returned to England. Thankfully, the break-up didn't last for long - Madeleine came to the city and Nick took her back immediately, effectively telling his parents to bite it. He married Madeleine and moved into a hole-in-the-wall apartment with her, supporting them with the money he made as a wand core extractor (heavily supplemented, of course, by Madeleine's teaching job). His sister Adamina was furious when he first left, but they eventually reconciled their difference and she began to visit him again recently … but his sister Cecilia still refuses to speak to him civilly. It upsets Nick, but he isn't prepared to leave the woman he loves for a sister who only cares about him (outwardly, at least) if their parents approve.

While Nick understands that his wife worries about him at his job, he can't bring himself to give it up - it's good enough money and he does love the slight danger that it offers him on a daily basis (have you ever tried to remove a Runespoor fang from a wily Runespoor? I didn't think so). He's a terribly proud man when it comes down to it and although his sister's husband, Timothy Greengrass, has offered to build him a house for what he describes as 'low cost', he is hesitant to allow the man to do anything for him. After all, he should be able to support his family without aid from someone else. He isn't a charity case. It doesn't help that he's always been protective of Adamina and is thus wary of any sort of lover that she takes. Tim is no exception.

He knows Madeleine feels guilty for his disownment and tries desperately to protect her from any problems that he might have and from the disappointment he has toward his sister Cecilia for failing to give his new family even one chance. He still hopes Cecilia will come around with time.
