"Casual Friday" at the Big Hero 6 offices meant that Kikuya cold wear her blue kimono and no makeup.  Actually what it meant was that she could wear 'regular' clothing but the idea was horrifying to her.  Why, exactly, did women want to encase their legs in heavy blue fabric that made them look as to be walking frozen sausages?  She did not understand, though she had made one concession to trend, as it were; she wore black flipflops.

With stockings.

As she walked down the hall the shoes made such a delightful soft little sound hitting against her stockinged feet.  Kikuya couldn't help but smile with her eyes.

"Good morning to the both of you," she said with a little nod of her head. Grogg did look adorable in his turtleneck sweater, though she still had a difficulty in seeing him in small form.

"What can I do for you?"

"Good morning, Grogg."

"I was hoping you could help our new recruit sometime soon."

Grogg looked a little surprised. "We have new member? That bring us to..."

He looked down at his fingers, "One, two, many, lots..."

He held up four scaly fingers. "This many!"

"Where did we acquire a new recruit from?" This was of interest.

"Sagami Province." Amiko looks sheepish. "The fourteenth century."

Grogg tried to wrap his brain around the concept of time. "That long ago," he said. "But still not as old as Grogg."

"We travel through time now?" Kikuya raised one brow delicately and continued forward. The others would follow, especially Grogg. She was going to the kitchen for tea and a little sweet cake and she typically shared.

"How did we come about this recruit, precisely?"

She would need to speak with them.

"I do not believe we travel through time on any kind of regular basis. To the best of my knowledge, I am a unique case." answers the young man, in the process of studying the science of refrigeration - useful! Of course, he's doing this by opening, then closing the refrigerator and freezer doors, trying to figure out how the light knows when to turn on.

"There is a switch, a little button if you will, in the hinge of the door that depresses when you open the device. It causes the light to turn on."

Kikuya smiles at the young man. They'd had to explain this to Grogg twelve times, though mercifully this young man was not breaking the appliance.

"Ahhh, yes. Like the light switches. Amiko-san attempted to explain them to me. I suppose it is sufficient that they do what she says. But forgive my manners." he says, closing the door, turning and bowing formally.

"Kazuhiro Hajime."

"Kikuya Iwasaki. I am the Super Geisha. It is pleasant to make your acquaintance. How long have you been here in our place in time?" She moved near silently to begin assembling tea.

"An honor, Iwasaki-san. But..." he pauses. "Super... geisha? I had come to understand that geishas... as such... were no longer... active?"

He pauses, looking for a more polite comment. "I am not a time traveler, precisely. To the best of my understanding, I have been training every day for the past 711 years with the Kenku, until this date arrived. The person I seek, who murdered my father, is a time traveler, however, and lives in this time."

"The geisha still exist, perhaps much-changed in their profession from that which you know. It has changed much since I truly plied my trade as well. I have not been much of a geisha for seventy years." She gestured for him to sit. She would serve him tea, properly.

He settles in comfortably, giving her a nod. "Yes... bathhouses are... not the same. And I understand now that when people think of geishas, and forgive me if my words offend, they think of them as prostitutes. Very disconcerting. I can see that you still remember some of the arts of your trade. Exquisite." he says, watching her handle the accoutrements.

"The exchange of wealth for pleasure is not entirely foreign to the profession. Even in my time gentlemen would bid for the purity of a young geisha. I take little offense to people making the connection; I do find my heart hurting to find young women believing that is what it should be."

Deftly she performed the tea ceremony. Grogg and Amiko were welcome to partake, but Hajime was her focus.

Amiko watched the conversation from the doorway for a moment before joining appreciatively. Lady Mariko knew a lot of this stuff, but to say Amiko didn't have the knack was an understatement.

Hajime nods. "Yes, but the difference is..." he pauses, considering his words carefully to try and not give offense. "Calling a geisha a prostitute is like calling the Emperor a politician. It is, technically, true, but so vastly understates the case as to be ludicrous." he replies, going through the motions of the tea ceremony the way he's been trained by people used to money. He's no courtier, but he is a samurai, each drink is delicate, each cup turned just so, making no move to even dare touch anything save his own cup, clearly savoring every second of familiarity.

"There is also the difference in the type of...patron that is implied. No true gentleman would ever consider a geisha's purpose to be explicit acts."

Everything in place, Kikuya took her place.

"Perhaps we can do this sometime in a proper setting. I don't care for office tables and I do hope they are not taking away from your enjoyment."

"And no one expects a prostitute to be able to play music, tell a story, converse about a play, dance... serve tea. Exchanging wealth for pleasure is fine... but it is a far cry from one trained to soothe a warrior's spirit and engage his mind as well."

He glances aside at the chairs. "While I would prefer to do this in its proper place..." the right things in the right location - very important - "I admit, I had not noticed them these past few minutes. It has been... a very long time since I had the honor of being served properly."

Amiko just nods politely, enjoying the tea experience and glad to see the two are connecting.

...she can't help but reflect that he's too young for her, either, but at least she doesn't look it.

"Perhaps," she says quietly as she looks at Hajime through her lashes, "if you select the evening I can entertain and serve you properly. You have come a long way to be here."

"I will apologize - until terms are fully negotiated, which is proving difficult as I... was not trained in money handling..." he looks a little sheepish to admit it - but that was proper for a samurai. His family handled his money, until he was married, but its still hard to admit a failing. "I do not have the resources that your services surely demand. If... such can be worked out, I believe I would select an evening very soon... particularly if you play a stringed instrument, or know the arts of massage? In the meanwhile, the tea is... perfection, Kikuya-chan."

"I do both," she offers softly and with a small smile.

"It is worked out, even without Amiko-chan's kindness. It would be a deep honor to serve you."

Kikuya bowed her head.

His expression is nothing short of stunned. A geisha's services, even for a night, was a great gift - and the offer of lent money - a sign of trust.

"Please, Amiko-san, we work together now, we shall have to trust one another. Please, call me Hajime." he replies pleasantly. "I may take you up on your offer even so. You said there are still places where good food is available for a price?" he asks Amiko, then turns back to Kikuya.

"If so, perhaps then you would do me the honor of dining with me this evening, and then perhaps you will play for me?"
