"Casual Friday" at the Big Hero 6 offices meant that Kikuya cold wear her blue kimono and no makeup.  Actually what it meant was that she could wear 'regular' clothing but the idea was horrifying to her.  Why, exactly, did women want to encase their legs in heavy blue fabric that made them look as to be walking frozen sausages?  She did not understand, though she had made one concession to trend, as it were; she wore black flipflops.

With stockings.

As she walked down the hall the shoes made such a delightful soft little sound hitting against her stockinged feet.  Kikuya couldn't help but smile with her eyes.

"I read a great deal. I do calligraphy and I paint. I play shamisen and I sing. I do enjoy performing dance as well. I am interested in history. And I enjoy silly movies." She smiles.

"I have heard a little of this Godzilla... it would seem silly, save the reality, of course. But sometimes reality makes for the best source of parody. What is your favorite subject to read on?"

"I learned to compose haiku in the Imperial style." which is to say, the best haiku are those composed and performed on the spot when given a topic and little time to think. "But have not read a great deal - though my mother, and some of the performers used to recite it. I always thought it best when backed by strings or flute, and read aloud. Perhaps you would be willing to share some of them later - I would like to listen to some of these books."

He considers. "Most of my own reading was on matters of war, and books of the sword. I shall have to find some of the books on this written since my time... and find a Go set, if people still play?"

"I would love to read to you, Hajime-sama." She is already considering where she might find some books on subjects he likes or, perhaps, old texts from his time.

When he mentions Go a smile widens across her face.

"I have a set myself. People do still play."

His face brightens at that. "Really?" Good to see not everything is totally lost. "I would love to play sometime. I would also love it if you would bring some of your books of poetry, comedy, whatever you wish, to read to me. Perhaps, if you know them by heart, you can recite some of your favorite poems while you play."

Texts on war, swordsmanship, tactics - he can read himself. Those are work. Poetry, plays, tragic romances - those are things to be appreciated out loud. Especially in such a lovely voice.

"I shouldn't, after the mountain, I am unusued to excess, but watching you work is too much to pass up... and Amiko-san was right, the food here is very good. Perhaps just a little more? And certainly more tea. Then we can see if this inn... no... wrong word... hotel, you said? has an opening for the night."

"Inn is not entirely the wrong word. Hotel means much the same." She happily served him just a bit more of the food but was generous with the tea before she seated herself again.

"Please forgive me for being presumptuous, Hajime-sama...but I booked a room in advance for you."

He bows his head slightly. "Not presumptuous, insightful, I would say. After all, as I understand it, it is part of a geisha's job to know what a samurai will want as well or better than the samurai. You do it well.

"I have twice before had the tremendous honor of being given a geisha's service for the night. I also traveled a good deal... and studied the arts a samurai should, though my primary study was that of a kensai. I can play... craft poetry... paint... but only in passing, clumsy by comparison. Enough, though, to appreciate a true artist at work."

He nods, trying not to scowl. "So I have heard. It is a true shame... so much has been lost. Much has been gained as well, I suppose. Some of the technological wonders Amiko-san has shown me are amazing... but one would think that people would not lose their appreciation for artists in the meanwhile."

She pressed a small hand to her mouth, smiling though near to tears with joy at his impromptu haiku.

"What will make you most pleased this evening, Hajime-sama? You have given me so much joy and honor already."

"As you have offered... even though it is not part of your profession's job description, I would very much like help bathing. I have had 700 years of bathing alone in a cold mountain pool - if I am to have a hot bath and finally feel clean, I would very much prefer some familiarity. Then perhaps we can both find kimonos fit for relaxation - if the inn provides them or we can get them along the way. Then, perhaps you will play your strings while you recite poetry or tell me a story... that would very much please me. Beyond these three favors... I would prefer to let you determine what more the evening will hold, as it is part of your training, and I would very much like to allow you to follow your intuition... it has served you well so far. Of course... I do not know how it is done or what is expected in this age, but in the manner of my time, you may join me for sleep or retire to your own quarters when I am at rest, as you like."

He waits quietly until everything is cleared, then stands, once again taking his place and leading to the door so he can open it for her, once again walking slowly and appreciating all of the envious glances cast his way.

"The hotel is one block to the left. It is not far and it is a nice night. I do quite enjoy walking with you so this is a special treat."

She walks with him, again about one step behind him.

"Was your meal satisfactory, Hajime-sama?"
