Mary Jane's Last Dance

I talked to my mom today about what's happening in politics lately, especially with election season.

My mom considers herself a Libertarian politically, but votes Democrat. She has voted straight Democrat since she registered to vote in the early 70's.

Today I asked her how she thinks the election season is shaping up.

She replied, "No good."

I said, "Yeah, I think I'm going to be riding the McCain train."

She then said, "This will probably be the first time I will vote for a Republican. Obama scares the shit out of me."

She pretty much thinks he's a charlatan and a snake-oil salesman. I'm pretty much in the same line of thinking -- I'm not convinced and I don't buy into it. It's all words, and no substance, and plus, he has such little legislative and bureaucratic experience that it is, well, frightening.

My mom made some pretty scary parallels to the Carter administration, which we all know (at least if you somewhat pay attention to history, which should be all of you!) was a complete bust. She also made allusions to George W. Bush's "I'm a uniter, not a divider" speech and Obama's current rhetoric. My oh my!
