The Order of Tarnished Denarius History: The origin of the Denarius is shrouded in mystery but the claim to be an order of fallen angels though it is next to impossible to verify the validity of their claims do to their imprisonment in silver coins. Even the exact number of Denarius is unknown though there is known to be at least 12 but there is thought to be 30 coins in total though some have suspected that there may be more than that. For as long as the Denarius have been around so have the Swords of the Cross been around to stop them. Theses battle have occurred all over the world Goals: A group of supposedly fallen angels trapped in indestructible silver coins with a unique sigil on each of them, while there exact goals and motive are unknown they seem to like to attempt to bring about as much destruction and misery onto the world as they can and usually like corrupting people and holy relics to do so. They plan long term and may take lifetimes to achieve their the plans Common power Possession- The Denarius can possess a person with their coin on them who willingly lets them do so but they cannot force the possession. The possession typically take the form of the Denarius completely taking over there host though in rare cases it act more as symbiosis with shared power and control is the host has strong enough will. If the host hasn’t completely given themselves over to the Denarius then it is possible to free them from the Denarius’s control if they can give up the coin of their own freewill. However after the host has given themselves fully to the Denarius there is no hope of freeing them but the process of take all of someone’s freewill is long and takes years to accomplish in even the weakest of minds. Mental Shadow Imprintation- One of the most dangerous of the Denarius powers this abilities lets the Denarius put a mental shadow of themselves into anyone who physically touches their coin. This ability lets the Denarius continue to temp someone into using their coins even if the person is not in possession of the coin and can offer tastes of the power that the Denarius can offer to their host. While the shadow is not as powerful as the real Denarius it is still quite powerful and capable of powerful illusions that can effect only the person who’s mind the shadow is in. Most people are not able to resist the temptation of the shadow for long before they giving and take the power that the Denarius offer. The only people known to be immune to this and possession are the wielders of the Swords of the Cross though why this is, is not known. It is possible for a host to give up their coin after they have let the Denarius in though this does not happen often and is very difficult to do. Host Transformation- When in possession of their host the Denarius can transform the hosts body into a monstrous form that enhances the abilities they grant to their hosts. When transformed the Denarius’ sigil appears glowing on the forehead of the host. Magic use- The Denarius can all use magic but some are more talented than others and can use it better if their host has a natural inclination to magic. Even the more dense or less magical inclinded of the Denarius can use magic well enough to challenge the average mortal magic user. Enhance Host- the Denarius can improve the strength, speed, and endurance of their host, the Denarius can also halt the aging process on their host but the host must have the coin on their person to have these abilities take effect.
Host ability- the Denarius can use any abilities their host has and amplipfy them so they are a bit more powerful Members:
Hosted- These Denarius currently have a permanent host Anduriel- the Shade, Typically acts as the leader of the Denarius though several of the Denarius have their own independent plans. in a symbiotic relationship with Nicolidus. If his stories are to believed he was only an angelic captain and in Lucifer's inner circle. Powers: Shadow manipulation and control(can be used for attacks, defense, flight, and scouting)(the shadows he manipulates seem to speak in whispers of what could possibly be an angelic or demonic tongue), the shadows once they grab a hold of an opponent can suck the power out of them, skilled in corruptive magic typically used on holy relics can use other types of magic but prefers to let others do it for him. Transformed appearance is a truly terrifying shadowy monstrosity. Master planner with thousands of years of experience including before his fall.
Host: Nicolidus- Nicolidus is dangerous not because he is the host of Anduriel but because he is Nicolidus. With at least 2000 years of experience in combat, planning, and many other thing even without the powers that Anduriel provides him he is still insanely dangerous. A simple rule for anyone going up against a full powered Nicolidus alone is You Lose. Nicolidus never likes to use more power than he has to to win a fight which makes it next to impossible to know his full strength. Nicolidus is also in possesion of the Noose of Barabbas. This powerful relic makes it impossible to kill him as long as he's wearing it around his neck and he never takes it off and taking it off him is not something easy or smart to do. Nicolidus also like to destory all knowledge of the Denarius every centrury or two and typically only fragments of information ever escape such plurges. He even claim to have been the one to set fire to the libary of Alexanderia in one such plurge. Nicolidus takes great joy out of killing knights of the cross and has killed more than any other member of the order. He is a long term planner who never underestimate his opponets and has back plans built into his back up plans. He appears as a man in his mid thirties and likes to wear grey suits. Imariel- The Mantis, in symbiotic relationship with Threasa Powers: Insect control, reconstitution by transforming into bugs and reforming, can be used to heal. Transformed appearance is a humanoid praying mantis with membranous wings, eyes that glow like flames, and a voice that sounds like a broken violin.
Host: Threasa- Threasa was once a prostitute in the temple of Isis in Thessalonica, It was at this time at around the age of 17 that she met Nicolidus who offered her a way out of her life if she join him and took up a coin with him which she gladly did. After working with him for centuries almost like a couple, Threasa decided that she wanted to do her own thing and broke away from Nicolidus while he tolerates this if she ever took action against him or his plan he has let her know he would deal with her swiftly. Most of her plans tend to be short term especially compared to Nicolidus. Lasciel- The Temptress, the master of temptation even among the Denarius, Lasciel is the hardest to resist when she wants to take a host. She prefers to work for herself and has a tendency to rebel against Anduriel a rebel angel amongst rebel angels. Powers: Hellfire, Shapeshifting. Transformed appearance is not very different from normal just seems to be more beautiful and hard to keep eye off of. Akariel- The Dark Flame Powers: Control over fire and moderate skill with summoning Hellfire, skilled in Fire magic. Transformed appearance is humanoid with dark green scales and long spiraling antlers that has a flame suspended between them. Namshiel- The Thorned, the Denarius master of magic Namshiel is furiously loyal to Anduriel and often acts as his second of command. Powers- Shoot spines off of its hosts body, the most skilled of the Denarius in magic. Transformed appearance is a sickly yellow humanoid appearance cover in sharp boney spines.
Without Host- These Denarius are currently without a permanent host
Magog- the Ape Powers- Superhuman strength. Transformed appearance is that of a large demon looking gorilla with the horns of a goat and claws on its hands. Ordiel- the Wild One Powers- Control over nature this includes wild plants and animals, moderately skilled in Earth magic. Transformed appearance is like a dark corrupted version of an ent though only a little larger than human form.
Shadya- the Dark Oracle, Not much of a fighter but is an incredible planner and manipulator. Shadya knows just what to say to get under a person's skin and make them fall apart.
Powers- Low level telepath, Soul Gaze which lets Shadya look into the soul of a person and see their true nature, Seer of paths which lets Shadya know what will most likely happen if a choice is made this power can not be used to see Shadya's own path or that of other Denarius, Master of manipulation. Transformed appearance is like a eyeless elderly person, who instead of eyes as has a small embers in each eye socket that glow like firefly flowing and moving throughout the sockets. Saluriel- the Snake Powers- Transformed appearance is Like humanoid snake with legs but the tail of a snake, covered in sickly green scales, and glowing snake like eyes. Tarsiel- the Statue Powers: Transformed appearance is a bald statue of obsidian, green eyes glowing above human eyes of bright blue. Ursiel- the Bear Powers- Superhuman Strength. Transformed appearance is a large demonic looking horned bear. Urumviel- The Winged, Powers- Flight, mild Superhuman speed, Skilled in Air magic. Transformed appearance is strangely good-looking with a classical demon look, Scarlet-skinned, goat legs, bat-like wings, and glowing green eyes. Varthiel- the Gorgon Powers- Control over Razor sharp hair. Transformed appearance is similar to normal form with red skin, clawed feet, and ten feet long metallic hair.
Defected- Those who have left the order or betrayed it
Aria- The Cold Wind, Aria recently defected from the Denarius wanting to redeem herself and reclaim her grace. The only reason that the other allow her to continue to be free is that they think that this is just a phase and unless she makes a move againsted them they will let her continue to do what she is doing. Aria started this almost made quest when she was given a mortal who wanted redemption just as much as Aria did, they work in symbiosis rather than one in complete control. Powers- Aerokinesis with winds that are always bone chilling cold, can glide through air. Transformed appearance is similar to normal form through paler hair becomes white, eyes glazed over, the body becomes cold to the touch like it's been long dead, also seems to flow a few inches off the ground.
Host- Ana- In addition to being able to be used in plots with the Swords of the Cross and other plots where people get in the way of their plans they can also be used in personal plots dealing with temptation of power.
