Flashback - Pilgrimage
New York City was the best place ever, Vincent Amorason, age 8, mused to himself. He was currently busy with his third slice of pizza, legs swinging back and forth under the table in the questioning room the police had brought him to. He'd been relatively disoriented when he first managed to get himself to the city from Doomstadt. He hadn't quite expected the teleportation spell to work all that well. Yet here he was. It had been a rough few days, since he'd forgotten to pack any money with him, but he was resourcesful if nothing else.

Now, granted, mesmerizing the staff of that restaurant might not have been the best move, and it had gotten him attention from the police. He'd decided it was best not to go violently, and let them take him in. Surely they'd know how to contact the Fantastic Four anyway. A little more Persuasion and he'd been able to have himself accomodated rather comfortably anyway. A nice reclining rolling chair from one of the officer's desks instead of the typical hard-backed one, pizza, and a milkshake.

How long could it take to get Reed Richards on the phone? It had already been half an hour.

At that comment, Kristoff mentally reviewed the magical defense he'd been considering ever since they heard what the boy was doing. They were....completely inelegant. Gratingly so. This was why he didn't like magic; he knew he wasn't actually good at it, just skirting by on the Master's knowledge.

"Parasitism is fairly unambitious, but you may try it out if you like."

"I was in New York City when I was eight, you know," he says very quietly, calmly, blandly. "The Fantastic Four locked me in a heavily-defended padded cell for three months, because I was a crazy, hateful, little beast."

Vincent watches Kristoff carefully, still keeping his back to one wall and eying the door as well.

"...So what am I supposed to do?"

Kristoff stepped closer and slowly crouched to be at a better eye level.

"Come back to the Baxter Building with Mrs. Richards and myself. She can arrange any legalities necessary with the authorities, including the papers to keep you in this country unmolested. She has done it before," he has calmly, quietly. "I will pay the restaurant you bewitched anything necessary, and clear the room next to mine for you."

The eight year old draws himself up, with the look of a cat surveying a new environment.

"Hmph." He brushes himself off, walking over and righting the chair he knocked over, and finishing the slice of pizza he was on, silent the whole time.

He avoids eye contact when he speaks up again. "I don't need anything from you, but that would make things simpler for me..."

For the duration of this, Kristoff just waits.

"I can live with not being needed. It is indeed still a good idea. I also wish to remind you, Vincent, that you do not wish to provoke a quarrel with either the Fantastic Four or any of their allies."

"I don't have any quarrel with them. They can go on doing exactly what they do. Making sure monsters like him can't come into this city unmolested."

He pushes at the chair, turning it from side to side before speaking again. "I blew you through a wall. Why are you... why aren't you angry?"

It hurts hearing Doom called a monster, but it's an old, familiar -- very familiar, on his team -- twinge, and it doesn't show.

"Good. Do not start one. Using magic very carelessly in the streets of New York could certainly do so. Keep it in mind."

And then, at the question, he raises an eyebrow. "Just becomes something... hurts -- " And his voice starts out cool and collected and dignified but gets a little thick as his control slips for just a moment. But he gets it back together again. "Does not mean it was anyone's Fault. Least of all yours; you were five; what do you take me for?"

At that question, Vincent falls quiet, craning his head to look for the members of the Fantastic Four outside the door.

"I'm not sure what you are yet."

"You will have time to decide on that account, but we should get you out of here."

He steps over to the door. "Mrs. Richards, may I introduce my brother -- for my part -- Vincent...Amorason, If I was told correctly? He does not, it seems, wish to go back. Vincent, this is Mrs. Susan Richards, the Invisible Woman."

"Well, thank goodness." He'll let Mrs. Richards greet the boy with a warm, maternal, people-person smile as he turns to an officer with paperwork asking a question, answering "I am eighteen."

"But trust me, Officer," Sue says, although still looking at Vincent. "He's old for his age." Another smile. "Ready to go, Vincent?"

Vincent looks between the two of them appraisingly, before snatching his milkshake off the table and sipping at it, walking out the door and looking back at them expectantly.

"This is... acceptable." He smiles at Mrs Richards, offering her his other hand as if he is doing her some great honor.

Sue will take that with a chuckle as they follow him out.
And she looks like she's holding back saying something for a moment and just can't resist. She looks over to Kristoff.

"You know what Johnny and Ben are going to say, right?"
"That we deserve each other, I am certain," Kristoff says with a small wry smile. "I can live with that."

And soon, off to the Baxter Building it was.
