Liam
There's no use telling William that his father was a good man, but Jacob always does it anyway. Even now, looking at photos where their father is missing from almost all of them, Jacob insists he cared about them. William doesn't remember him and he doesn't believe it. He turns a page, another one of the entire family crowded together for the shot. Half of the boys are pulling faces, and one of the brothers is punching another in his broken arm. Frozen in time forever.
The album ends abruptly, one summer. Their mother stopped taking photographs of them. She's still a good mother, Jacob tries to say, but William leaves the room.
