Protocol mostly. We have to keep it until it is past statue of limitations and then it can be released in case it is needed for evidence again. But I understand. It doesn't get cycled out even after the fact, collecting dust when it could go to a greater purpose. The police aren't the greedy ones, we are the ones that go out and do the work while all the highers take the credit. They are the ones that keep it locked up but we are the ones that people see first. The public image of the force. Even if the order was passed down to you to do something that you will regret, you have no choice because it is your job.
