Character Name: Gene Kalso aka ‘Breaker’
Character LJ (if applicable): Jonathan Bennett
Physical description (face, build, weight): Gene has a handsome face and short and messy brown hair. His eyes are brown as well and have a bit of a gleam to them that suggests he may be up to something. He’s also usually got some stubble.

He’s got an average build, neither out of shape or a muscle man. He’s about 5’11” tall and weighs around 152lbs.

Typically, Gene wears casual clothes. Jeans and t-shirts are his usual fare. He’s almost never seen without his leather duster coat and thick green goggles on his head.

Age: 22

Abilities:
Magic: Gene’s a talented magic user specializing in enchanting items and defensive spells. He’s by no means a candidate for Sorcerer Supreme but he’s good in a pinch.

Science: Gene’s graduated from college with degrees in mechanical and electrical engineering. He’s very skilled in both areas and able to build and repair many amazing machines.

Combat: The extent of Gene’s combat abilities come from bar brawls. He knows how to throw a punch and how to take one. He can improvise weapons but he’s by no means any kind of ninja.

“Spell Shooter”: Gene’s primary weapon of choice is a heavily modified magnum pistol. It’s been altered to fire ‘spell bullets’, magic spells loaded into special bullets. Typically he carries rounds of elemental magics like fire ball bullets and ice-creating ones.

Goggles: Gene’s goggles have been enchanted to let him see through most low level illusions as well as scan for things like mystic trails and concentrations of magical energy.

Occult Knowledge: Gene has extensive knowledge of the occult and supernatural. His knowledge of the various occult subjects is about comparable to a doctorate level education in magic and occult subjects.

Misc Gadgets: At any given time, Gene is likely to be carrying one or two of his experiments/creations. Anything from ‘mystic grenades’ to a flamethrower pen.

Weaknesses and flaws:

-Under all the weapons and armor, Gene’s just a human. He can be killed by anything that would normally kill a human unless he enchants his gear.

-Not really a fighter. Gene can fight, yes. He’s handy with guns and a fan of the ‘break the bottle over their head then stab them with it’ move, but he does a lot better in the back or the workshop/lab making new tools and toys.

-Not quite sane: Gene isn’t the most ‘there’ guy. It’s not to say that he’s wildly unstable but he isn’t entirely sane. He’s the type of guy that’ll make a gun that shoots rubber ducks just because he can and has a crate full of rubber ducks. He’s also likely to obsess over projects and problems until he’s solved or completed them and can make teammates uncomfortable.

-Unstable experiments: Gene’s work is some experimental stuff. Combined with his less than stable self, his creations have the tendency to explode (sometimes literally) in his face. Sometimes its as severe as a literal explosion and other times it can just be small as turning the user’s hair blue.

Character location/Home: Currently Chicago

Alignment (villain, hero etc): Hero (motly)
Relatives (living/dead?): Richard Kalso (assumed father), Melinda Kalso (mother), Unknown Biological Father (status unknown), Alexia Kalso (Grandmother, dead) some siblings.

Backstory: Gene’s a child of a family obsessed with the occult and magic. For generations his family learned and collected as much as they could about magic, demons, and different dimensions. The only problem was that they had zero talent in the area. More than a few of them got themselves killed or caused more trouble than they were trying to stop.

Then Gene came along. Unaware of the fact that he was the result of an affair his mother had with an unknown man, Gene actually had talent in magic and mystic arts. Much to his annoyance, this thrilled his family and they started trying to teach him everything they could.

As a result, Gene’s life was mostly studying. Both magic at home and science at school. One day while preparing to go off to college, he stumbled across a set of journals in the family attic that contained notes on the clan Frankenstien’s work on mixing science and sorcery and became very interested in it. Such things became the focus of his studies while he wandered about investigating strange and unusual occult incidents and occasionally helping out some people.

How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?: He’s going to get involved in the Midnight Sons plot!

What are you planning to do with this character?: Gonna have him join up with the Midnight Sons and fight supernatural threats.

What do you want to see happen with this character?: I have no real concrete plans right now. I’d like him to at least make a friend or two. Having someone figure out his ‘crazy’ is just an act would be good too.

Sample post:

“Back! Back fowl toaster!” Gene yells, wielding a broom threateningly. A few feet away from him, a demonically possessed toaster growls and jumps. Gene bats it away and dodges back. He jabs only for the broom to be grabbed and incinerated.

“Oh, bugger,” Gene mutters, peering at the burnt remnant of the broom handle. He glances down at the toaster and then sighs. “Fine,” he sighs, diving aside as the toaster leaps his way. Snatching the bread off the counter, Gene rolls to the side and then throws it. One the toaster is distracted, he pulls a weapon from within his coat. With a quick burst of arcane symbols from the barrel, a flash of light issues forth and ends the threat of the Toaster of Doom. Gene sighs once more and dusts off his coat.

The gun returns to its holster as Gene walks over to the table and scoops up a clipboard.

“Toaster Experiment Number 22…questionable results. Now to go buy another toaster…”
