The State of Scribbld 2012

I apologize everyone for the lack of updates on the website. I've been extremely busy with work and other projects that have just consumed so much of my time. One site and project I've been spending a lot of time on lately is MyVideoGameList.com. It allows anyone to sign up for an account and track their video games they're playing or have played before.

The biggest issue with Scribbld is that the LiveJournal coding and development team make it very very hard for anyone using their code to run their own website and stay updated with their codebase. We have fallen so incredibly far behind it's almost near impossible to update our codebase to be identical with theirs. It's likely we actually will never be able too. They also make it far too difficult to upgrade and keep the customizations you've done in place.

There's a few things however that I would like to accomplish before throwing in the towel (let's just hope it doesn't come to this.) I would like to get reCaptcha working for signups because it's pretty obvious the current captcha system isn't working and massive amounts of spam is being sent to the site and database. I am sure we'd all appreciate a little less spam. There's also 3-4 behind the scenes things I'd like to get working or working again.

I have setup our Paid Account status checking tool as well as our purged/deleted Username list tool.

Paid Accounts Checking tool
Purged & Deleted Usernames checking tool

I should also mention our status website has been re-setup and shows real-time statuses of the system services - http://status.scribbld.net

I hope everyone is well, and welcome to all of our new users and hello again to my old users and friends. I will definitely try to keep more of eye on Scribbld from here on out.

Thank you everyone!

~ Jimmy & Morgan

Thanks for letting us know! To be honest I personally don't care about the site being exactly up to date on every single little thing in every single little way. I just want it to run smoothly and not get shut down. There's probably a huge set of features on lj that have been implemented but if I really cared that much I would be over there and not on scribbld. I like this place because if I were to get a paid account the price would be better than dreamwidth (not like I can afford it either way lol) I think it would be cool if you just took a poll on what sort of features people would like to see implemented, and just pick the top 3 to work on (if that's possible without messing other things up). I just want to know that my journal won't disappear like on greatestjournal and inksome :(

I like the fact that Scribbld is not cluttered up with things like LJ is. It's small, simple and it works. I don't need all the bells and whistles.

Less spam would be nice.

I love Scribbld way more than LJ or Dreamwidth.

I agree with the above. Please don't close Scribbld, it's the best!! <3

Yeah, I noticed there is a lot of spam journals on the website. I've tried looking at the "random" journal feature in the side bar and every journal that was randomly picked for me to view was a spam account :/ I also got some spam comment on my own journal recently.

I think it would be nice to take the most popular users off the front page and put some new users and communities up since those others arent really being updated at all.

Seconding the point about 'most popular users'!

I don't think the site needs updating at all - it's great the way it is! Tbh, the ~updates are what killed LJ and, while new design tweaks at Scribbld would be nice, I don't think you need to make any changes to the site's fundamental features - it's cool how it is :)

Would be really nice if we could get some assistance on getting invite codes. Sent in a request to support 4 days ago and Ive gotten nothing in return.
