FIRST IMPRESSION Naija first comes off as friendly and personable--an approachable person, always willing to help although always looking worn out in some way or another. IN DEPTH It's people like Naija that make the Sorting Hat's job challening. Both of her parents and older siblings were sorted into Ravenclaw during their school years and she was no far cry from any of them intelligence-wise, however she had always been far more outspoken and tempermental than the rest of her family, making her a very easy candidate for Gryffindor as well. It was something of a shock to she and her family, still, when the Hat did decide on Gryffindor finally, but once she was able to spend some time with her housemates, it became obvious that it had been a wise decision. An easy confidant, she made a lot of friends in her school years, even if said friends often annoyed her. They were generally reckless and laid back, getting in the way of her precious study time on a daily basis as they pulled her into their fun which, at times, she just couldn't resist--yet, with her persistance and determination where her studies were concerned, Naija was still able to graduate with honors. These qualities made her a natural when she joined on at St. Mungo's as a Healer after graduation, although it is obvious to her and those around her that she overworks herself far too often. She needs a firm hand approach taken to her most of the time to get her to go home or relax like she should, which usually comes in the form of her husband or brother, who also happen to be her co-workers. Working in the pediatrics and maternity wards is another thing that has come very easily to the young Healer. A great lover of children, especially babies, her maternal qualities shine through to others through her choice of occupation. Her greatest wish it to someday have a house bursting with children of her own and be surrounded by them at all times, as was the case with she and her siblings when she was younger. LIKES Her job, children, Priyaranjan, traditional Indian food, saris, shopping, being with her sisters, playing with her neices and nephew, and cleaning. DISLIKES Disobedience, lack of respect, intolerance for culture, overbearing parents, overbearing fathers-to-be, multiples, ignorance, and people who eat with their mouths open. ALIGNMENT Neutral PATRONUS Dragonfly BOGGART A stillborn. More than anything else in the world, she hates having to deliver stillborn babies. FAMILIAR Priyaranjan has a cat, Niloofar, but Naija has no pets of her own. Working such a stressful and time-consuming job makes making time for pets difficult, although between herself and her husband, they manage to keep his cat taken care of.

HEIGHT 5'5" WEIGHT 112 lbs HAIR Dark Brown EYES Brown DEFINING FEATURES She's a pretty woman, but that's hardly enough to call a defining feature. Apart from her looks, Naija's mostly unremarkable, with no features that make her her. It's probably enough of a recognizable trait to be Indian in the middle of London, however. MANNER OF DRESS Nice, but not overly expensive. Her clothes are covered by her healer robes 95% of the time--most of the time it's just scrubs anyway. Naija really doesn't own much that can be considered dressy, not with the hours she works keeping her in the hospital and away from a social life, and oftentimes when she dresses up, it'll be a mix and match of the same three pairs of blouses and skirts.

BIRTHPLACE Mumbai, India CURRENT RESIDENCE London, England FINANCES The Patils are quite well off, living on two healer salaries and all, but it doesn't show in the way they live. If you walked into their flat (often not cleaned, with an empty fridge), you would never guess at their occupations. HISTORY Born nearly five weeks earlier than she was due, Naija Jaya Dassi weighed a full five pounds, six ounces and came into the world on May 12, 1956 in the hospital in Bombay, India where her mother, Dalaja Dassi, was currently on shift. While she was meant to have been born in London--after the weekend trip her parents were making to the Indian hospital for a special call--it seemed like the newest Dassi baby just wasn't prepared to wait. Thankfully, there were no major medical complications, although her stay with the intensive care unit extended their trip quite a bit and it was not until Naija was a month old that she was allowed to finally go to her real home in England and her brother and sister. As the Dassi children grew older (and eventually welcomed in another sister, Nadiya), all four grew quite close to one another--while living in the middle of a big city, it was somewhat difficult to find neighbor friends, and the children ended up spending much more time playing with each other than they did with others. It stayed like this up until Leena's 11th birthday, marking her departure to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, two years later that of Inesh, and within another three years, Naija's. She was sorted into Gryffindor house (a strict departure from the Ravenclaw legacy of her parents and older siblings), despite the inital difficulty there was in whether her intelligence was an important enough factor to be considered. The young girl's personable, outgoing nature won over, however, and being the friendly person she was, she had no problem making friends... although at times, those friends jeopardized her much-treasured study time. Distractions from her friends aside, Naija still managed to graduate Hogwarts with honors--9 O.W.L.s and an excellent score on her N.E.W.T.s--and was immediately accepted into the Healer-in-Training program. Throughout her intern year and following residency, St. Mungo's became Naija's home in more ways then one. Not only did she find herself sleeping, taking most of her meals, and socializing with most of her friends there, but she found her future husband, a fellow healer by the name of Priyaranjan Patil. In true style of two people with overly busy lives, their courtship and consequent marriage were rather rushed (or as rushed as they could make the marriage with both families butting in and butting heads), but full of love nonetheless. It's a stressful thing, to be married to a healer, but to be married to someone who didn't work with her would be even more difficult for Naija. At least she sees Priyaranjan at work, if not always at home. |
