"Delilah, no, now is not the time, I have to study for this--" He was abruptly cut off when her face crumpled and a sobbing yell erupted, the likes of which had to be heard 'round the school.
"Oh, god," he said. "Oh, god, no, I'm sorry. It's all right. I can fail History of Magic, I just--"
Her keening grew louder and Octavius jumped up, flapping his hands uselessly at his sides because the sight of female tears, as it always had and probably always would, reduced him to a monosyllabic lump.
"Be-be-because," she hiccuped here, and clawed at the tears refusing to quell their streaming down her face, "he b-broke up with meeeee!" she wailed.
"Don't tell Charlie!" she demanded, grabbing his hand.
"Delilah, he's--I mean, everyone is going to--"
"Swear you won't!" Delilah pointed a finger at him accusingly through her tears.
"I—all right, all right, under pain of certain death, I won't—"
"Thanks," she said phlegmily.
"Don't mention it," he mumbled, giving her hand an awkward squeeze.
