Profile

Basics

Name: Joanna Lynn Miller
Nicknames: Jo
Age: 28
Date of birth: June 17, 1980
Occupation: ER Doctor
Sexuality: Homosexual
Relationship Status: Single (for now)

Personality

Positives: Friendly, dependable, hard-working, optimistic, practical, calm, kind, honest, open-minded
Negatives: Doesn’t know when to give up, will choose the right thing for now over the smart thing for later, blunt, can seem too calm and aloof, a little naive

Summary: Jo radiates calm and serenity. She lives in the moment, in the world as it is, fixing the things she can and accepting the things she can't change. She is an inherently caring and dependable person. Wanting to make the world a better place in what small was she can, Jo is driven by the need to fix things and take care of peple. If anyone she knows is in trouble she will be right by their side without a second thought. She has a very strong personal sense of right and wrong, although she's never paid much attention to formal rules or what is socially acceptable. She is essentially optimistic, believing that there are always solutions and that she really can make the world better; however, she is also very down-to-earth, focusing on the practical things that can be dealt with her and now rather than worrying about the big picture. When she thinks she can fix something she can be quite stubborn and even reckless, focusing on what needs to be done and forgetting things like common sense and her own well-being. Jo is not an especially loud person, preferring listening to talking. What she does say usually gets right to the point.

History

Family: Rick Miller (father), Dora Miller (mother), Maggie Miller-Hoffman (younger sister), Amy Miller (younger sister)

Summary: Jo is a resident at the local hospital, working in the ER. It is the ideal job for her becuase she is almost unshakably calm and she's always been driven by the need to fix things and care for people. Growing up, her parents were very loving but both very busy with their careers, so Jo took care of her little sisters from a very young age. It was her main mission in life to look out for them and for all of her friends. Not exactly shy, but a very quiet person by nature, she was always ready to listen to anyone's problems and to offer advice that showed a sort of serenity and wisdom beyond her years.

In school she was drawn to the practicality and hands-on nature of science. She told everyone that she was going to be a doctor someday and as she grew up that answer never changed. Jo worked hard to get through university and medical school as quickly as possible. It was all harder than she'd ever imagined, but it was worth it. This was what she'd always wanted to do. She took an internship at a hospital in Charleston and eventually a residency in the Emergency Room.

Her devotion to her job doesn't leave her loads of time for a life, but she always makes time for her friends and family when they need her and she manages to have time for some simple hobbies like playing her guitar and doing yoga. She can't really ask for more out of life than that.

Power

Endorphin Manipulation: Jo can manipulate the levels of endorphins in a person's body. The effects of this can calm people down, relieve pain, or cause a rush of blissful pleasure. There can also be negative effects, causing alarm, panic, and uncontrollable terror, but she hasn't ever done much with these aspects of her power. She can mildly influence an entire group of people or more seriously influence a single person. Jo has known about and been experimenting with her powers for several months now.
