AIM Screename: {required}
Past RP Experience: {you can use any example here. a snip from past logs or links to other communities you've been in. anything that shows us you've roleplayed before.

Character's Name:
Character's Age:
Character's Model: {whom you wish to portray your character; also known as your PB. please supply name and a sample image}

Major / Minor: {if applicable; if your character hasn't decided, say so} [see below]*
Clubs / Activities / Job?: [see below]*

Background History: {minimum 300 words - nothing is truly 'canon' in an alternate universe setting such as this. so feel free to go wild and use your imagination to it's fullest capability! creativity is very important here. if you plan on playing a character that depends on another for some aspects of plot [ex: Hyuuga / Zabuza-Haku / Orochimaru-Kabuto / Madara-Tobi-Izuna] do not write them in unless the character exists already in the community and you have planned something out with them. with that in mind, keep mentioning of another character in your application down to a minimum. your application is all about your numero uno character and that is the one we want to see the most out of.}

Personality/Likes & Dislikes: {minimum 300 words - there's bound to be quite a bit about your character that makes them a special snowflake. you have your chance to tell us about it right here. what are their talents or aspirations? details and more details, please. what makes them who they are and why? describe their personality to a tee. paint a picture with your summary and assume that you are the only one who knows everything about this character.}

Writing Sample: {minimum 300 words each - our requirement is for you to write both a first and third person sample in order to show your grasp on the character in the two formats that dominate the community. prompts are optional as they are only there to help aid you with the writing examples. feel free to be as imaginative as possible.}

Personality/Likes & Dislikes: Shino is a fairly social creature. He likes to smile, talks easily, and revels in the time he’s allowed to spend with his friends because it just feels so damn good to be open and sharing and having opinions.

That is, for an Aburame.

Compared to the ‘normal’ world of not-his-family, Shino comes off as fairly reticent. He tends to keep his thoughts and opinions to himself when there isn’t glaring error to correct or a direct question addressed toward him. He’s the sort of person who’s constantly analyzing a situation, keeping everything in his head until it’s fully formed before letting it out into the real world. That said, his verbal tact has often been noted to be… slightly lacking. All that quiet thinking brings him to the right answers, not necessarily the nice ones.

When first getting to know him as a student and worker, people are often impressed by Shino’s level head and innovative solutions to problems. When first getting to know him in a social setting, people often find Shino unapproachable and a little unduly harsh (because of his lack of a brain-to-mouth politeness filter). People who actually know him well enough to penetrate the bubble of solitude, however, tend to consider him a ‘nice’ boy, the sort you’d bring home to mother if he weren’t so goddamn weird around people he didn’t know well.

Then again, lots of things about Shino are weird… or at least, a little off-beat. He’s always had a preternatural affinity for creepy-crawly things; it makes him great to have around when you need to get rid of a spider, of course, but does nothing for the state of his dorm… or his social life. Shino established fairly early on in his life that it was more interesting to sit around with a book on entomology or studying a jar full of ants than to go out and attempt to make friends. The madness may have changed—it’s a broader range of books to study these days—but the method remains the same: if given the choice, Shino will opt out of interaction in favour of sitting by himself somewhere dark and quiet. It’s not that the right people couldn’t pull him out of his shell; it’s just that he rather enjoys the solitary confinement.

First person writing sample: [once again, not a talkative character; longer could happen if necessary, but it’d be a little out of character]

We started on Elasmostethus interstinctus today. According to my father, they were my first Acanthosomatidae. It was reassuring to work with them, although certainly not the most enlightening project we conducted thus far. Most of them were rather lovely.

The literature course is still… going questionably. The constant reminders that there are, in fact, no right answers have become rather frustrating. There are still wrong answers. Plenty of them have been offered up during class sessions. It remains counterproductive to discuss incorrect answers at length only to have them written off as incorrect answers. Only a few classes left in the humanities after this one, at least.

Weekend plans have once again been disrupted. Father isn’t going to be in Tokyo until the week after next. On the bright side, this means I’ll actually have time to finish dissecting the Heike monogatari without having to attend the study session. I’m fairly certain that course work is still a reasonable excuse for not letting my floor-mates drag me out until whatever ungodly hour it is they trickle home. Perhaps I can perfect the art of instant noodles while I’m reading.

Third person writing sample: Well. There had been less successful first weeks of term before. Shino was sure of it. Under careful scrutiny, it could be easily ascertained that it had not, in fact, been a horrible week. He'd gotten all the preliminaries out of the way, shook the hands he'd needed to shake, even made the effort to smile at the boorish mannerisms of his flashier classmates when socially appropriate. That didn't mean the incident in the dining hall hadn't been an annoying wrinkle in his otherwise productive life.

It was good to have a few minutes to himself. The shakiness the little altercation had left him with required time in seclusion. The library was a good place for that. It was quiet, sedate, full of the quiet rustling of pages and soft click of many clocks imperfectly synchronized. For a few minute, the Aburame simply stood in the foyer, breathing in the calm silence of the place before moving into the stacks.

In retrospect, it would have been wise to have looked at a catalog or pulled aside a librarian. It was just that it felt so good to be alone again, after a week in and out of office buildings and crowded meetings. He ought to be heading toward something vaguely like a "biology section." He knew there had to be some place he could sit down and research, not about anything particularly interesting so much as about entomology in general, anything with big glossy pictures of shimmering mandibles and delicate wings and long lists of Latin words. Unfortunately, running his fingers along the spines of what he could only assume was a science-oriented section of books wasn’t yielding anything particularly more interesting than molecular studies. Much as he disliked the idea of having to break his perfect silence, Shino began glancing around, prepared to ask the next person he saw for assistance.

Other Notes: + Shino is blood type AB and an Aquarius. The combination point to a personality type which is cool, controlled, intuitive, detached, and somewhat eccentric.
+ When Shino ‘grows up,’ he plans to travel to South America to further pursue his studies of entomology and hopes ultimately to be an academic like his parents.
+ Although both his parents travel abroad frequently, Shino has never been out of Japan.
+ Shino has played the piano since the age of 4 and has been known on occasion to fool around with the guitar.
+ During most of his parents’ separation, Shino has lived with his father. Perhaps because of this, he maintains a much more cordial and polite relationship with his mother and women in general.
+ The only ‘real’ pet Shino ever (briefly) had was an older tabby with FeLV named Nori. Perhaps in reaction to the lack of an actual cuddly pet in his life, Shino has named almost every spider he’s encountered in his father’s lab.
Any Questions: No. No more. Never again. The blackmail stops here. I made you a Zetsu and a Shino and you can't make me feel bad anymore. >|

Welcome! Be sure to do the following with your character journal:

o1. Join both the IC ([info]last_stretch) and the OOC ([info]reach_for_ooc) communities as well as [info]sticky_noto and add [info]ls_mod as a friend here. Only then will you be able to comment to the friend add/remove entry. Here, you will also add all the players to your IC journal.

o2. Once you are friended, you'll be able to view certain friends-locked entries. Next, you will go here and fill out the player contact information. When we dot all the "i's" and cross the "t's," we will promptly add you to the official taken characters list.

o3. Please also take the time to add a phone post to your character journal. The phone posts are used for characters to communicate outside of the company journals. Once done, please comment to this post with your information.

o4. And finally, please disable the custom comment pages on your character journal. Information on how to do and and why we do it can be found here. Also there is how to work out layouts on Scribbld, if you're new to this. ♥

And you're done! You are also free to write an introductory post in the OOC community, and write up a character info post in your journal!

ps. I totally can. Making you do things is so easy. :D
