About The Character:
Name of Character: James Albert Potter
Age: 21 years old, b. 27 March 1960
Physical Appearance Description: Tall and definitely handsome, James stands at right around 6 feet tall. He has an athletic build, formed from years of Quidditch and other physical activity. James has dark hair that is naturally unruly, no matter what he does with it (although he has been know to muss it up on purpose, thinking it makes him look even more dashing than he already does) and wears glasses. He favors more casual Muggle clothing to his wizard robes, a taste acquired after getting to Hogwarts and making friends with some of his Muggleborn housemates. He can often be found with a cocky smirk on his face, evidence of both his self-confidence and his playful personality.

Personality Description:
Though he's not quite as obnoxious about it as he was when he was younger, James has a healthy ego. He knows his strengths. He knows he's good-looking, athletic, a skilled duelist and quite intelligent. On occasion, he has been overconfident, but he will tell you he has good cause to be.
James can be kind of a prat at times, but he does have a good heart. There's nothing he wouldn't do for his friends and family. He is extremely dedicated to the Order/Outsiders and everything they are working for. He'd give his life for any one of them, especially for Lily, though he rather hopes it doesn't come to that. He sort of likes being alive.
He has a wicked sense of humor and still loves a good prank, but James has matured over the years. He's not the same person he was during his first few years at Hogwarts. He still maintains his dislike towards Snape, but a large part of it is protectiveness over Lily. Well, that and the fact that he still thinks the guy is a slimy git. If it came down to it, though, he'd protect him just as he would anyone else on their side.
James has a sharp mind and he's a talented wizard. His strengths are in Transfiguration and Defense, but he's also an excellent flier. It might not always be obvious from his usual joking demeanor, but James has a serious side to him and he's been known to come up with some very good ideas from time to time.
Year Character is Taken From: 1981
Where was your character when they were taken and what were they doing? James was taken just days after his wife Lily was and he had absolutely no idea she was taken. He was out running errands in Diagon Alley when he was taken and suffice to say he is very, very confused about what's happened.
Brief History of Character:
James was the only child of a wealthy Pureblood couple that was already getting on in years by the time he came along. The Potters had begin to think they would never have a child of their own and James was treated like the miracle he was from the time of his birth. He was coddled and spoiled, unintentionally nurtured into an arrogant young man who was fully used to getting his way.
It was no surprise to anyone when he received his Hogwarts letter at the age of eleven. The Potters had been magical for generations on both sides and James had started displaying his own signs of magical ability from a very young age. He was sorted into Gryffindor and quickly made friends with dorm mates Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew. He was always closer to Sirius than he was the rest of them, but he considered the four of them his best mates.
Although he has always had a good head on his shoulders, James was never the most dedicated student. He has a sharp mind when he chooses to apply it, but during his school years he was much more interested in Quidditch, pranks and girls. Truth be told, he was a little obnoxious and probably not nearly as cool as he thought he was. He was brash and arrogant. He took to taunting other students, the ones he disliked in some way. His favorite target was Severus Snape, former best friend of the girl he had set his sights on.
It was during his second year that he found out Remus was a werewolf. Rather than shun the boy as many would have done, James (along with Sirius and Peter) spent the next few years working their butts off and studying to become Animagi so they could join their friend during his transformations.
James did mature over the years, going as far as to save Snape's life in their sixth year. Granted, it was due to a prank Sirius had pulled on the boy that Snape's life needed to be saved, but even James could recognize when things had been taken too far. He didn't and still doesn't like the git, but he's learned over the years to be at least civil when he has to be.
Life only seemed to get better for James as he matured. He was appointed Head Boy in his 7th Year and he finally got Lily to agree to go out with him. He joined the Order of the Phoenix so that he could really fight against Voldemort. He didn't find employment immediately after graduation, but that was only because he had a sizable inheritance from his parents who passed on from an illness very recently. He figures it'll give him more time to devote to the Order anyway.
Where do you see your character fitting in the game?
Most importantly, James will be "reuniting" with Lily. I'm told by Lily's mun that there may be something brewing between her and Severus and I think it's going to be a lot of fun to see how James' arrival affects that. Unlike Lily, James has never for a second questioned their marriage. Lily is the only one he's ever wanted and if he realizes she may have feelings for "that git," it's going to be some fun drama.
Of course, this leads us to lots of fun interactions with Snape as well. While James has matured, he still doesn't like Severus Snape one little bit. The fact that Lily is working with him is sure to only increase that feeling. I look forward to some interesting interactions there.
Obviously, there will also be fun hijinks for James and the other Marauders! James comes from a time when he still thinks Peter is one of his best mates, so if there's a Peter about, it will be interesting to see how that develops.
Lastly, it will be pretty awesome to see how James reacts to meeting his grandchildren as well as possibly his son all grown up or whatever age he happens to be in this place.
Are there any personal or overall plots that you'd like to see your character in? Are you open to certain types of plots, but not others? Please explain any ideas you come into the game with.
See above! I'm pretty much up for anything else, too! I'm really flexible and there's pretty much nothing I won't do short of killing him off! I don't have anything else specific in mind aside from what I listed above, but I'm open to anything!
Will you be able to maintain the at least one post every three weeks activity? How often are you available for participate in a thread?
Yes! I tend to do most of my threading on my days off, but I'm usually good for at least 1-2 replies a day even on the days I work.

James could remember clearly the way that he'd felt the moment Lily had told him she was pregnant. Ecstatic didn't even begin to cover the feeling. He'd grinned brightly at her and a moment later he'd picked her up and swung her around. She'd squealed at him to put her down, but it wasn't until she'd threatened to vomit on him that he'd complied.
30 seconds later, he'd dropped down onto one knee and proposed.
He'd been a wreck the day Harry had finally come into the world. James supposed that was common when the love of your life was giving birth to your son. He didn't have any experience with babies, being the first of his mates to go through this. He knew he already loved his son more than anything, but he had no clue how to be a father.
Somehow, he'd done it, though. He'd learned to change diapers. He'd learned how to calm Harry on those rare occasions when he fussed. He was a brilliant dad, if you asked him, and of course he'd spoiled him nearly to death, already.
Some would say that Harry had well enough toys at this point, but James couldn't seem to stop buying him things. There was the mobile that hung over his crib with charms shaped like broomsticks and bludgers, a quaffle and even a golden snitch. There was the toy broomstick and a dozen other little toys. Some would say James was preparing to turn Harry into a miniature version of himself, but James didn't see that as a bad thing.
Anyway, it wasn't often that your only son turned one and with Harry's birthday just around the corner, James found himself in Diagon Alley looking for the perfect gift. It was more difficult that you might imagine to find something. Between him and his mates, Harry already seemed to have everything a baby could want. That didn't deter James, though. He would find something.
As he looked around, though, he found himself distracted by a ring that laid in the exact center of one shop window. It was simple, yet beautiful. The emerald in the center of it was the exact shade of Lily's eyes - Harry's eyes, too, but James' thoughts were all for his wife in that instant. It had been awhile since he'd brought home something for her. With that in mind, he entered the shop. Surely, he'd do something soon to muck everything up and it might be nice to have this on hand the next time she lost her temper with him. |
