OMFG!!!!
That's a good sound, btw.
Where do I even begin. Gencon.
We got down to the hotel weds night, actually just at sunset which was nice, because we got to see that and we didn't have any problems finding the hotel, they changed a couple of streets, but thank goodness for GLaDOS...I mean, the GPS. We got settled into our room, our meaning Meg and I, the two we drove down with ended up in the other room and that became the designated smoking room. Fine with me. Went to bed around 12ish, maybe a little later.
Thrus, we did afternoon shift, which was odd cause I'm so use to doing morning. We headed over to the dealer's room. I was able to pick up 2 Riddle Books, OMFG I Love them! I am thinking about trying to do something on here or dA with them for like some kind of points I guess. But the problem is I'd have to rely on the honor system. I want it to be fun. Anyways, so we actually got a good luck around and ran into an author, she sort of reminds me of Sherri. We chatted it up and I need to contact her formally probably tomorrow about maybe doing a manga version of her book. But I need to read it first. We walked around some more, finally ending up getting a bag (which has a few goodies and a coupon book for the dealer's room), sadly we were too late to get one of the free pathfinder pins, but we got the Gencon die. Due to us working the afternoonshift we missed out on the rest of the day in the dealer's room. Also somehow before our shift we went over to Marriot which is where the True Dungeon stuff is and I was hooked up with Allen a lawyer from L.A. who had more tickets than he needed. I got in on the Sat night Sea Lich Combat game, though he didn't actually have those tickets on him. We became fast texting buddies over the weekend because of it. Work was nice, though slow. We were once again in a different spot due to moving of the dealer's room into the new area of the convention center and it wasn't getting the needed foot traffic. After that we hit up the Marriot again to get free 10 tokens for TD (glad we did that when we did) and wandered through the Westin which is where all the anime stuff was, once again pretty shabby, on our way out to the fountains to get a few quick photos (really won't be posting up more than a couple of that outfit) and then off to the mall to 1/check out the hot topic, they only had the black group SM shirt and get food at Chickfula. *dances* It was soooooooo good! And we were that hungry. We were going to go see Conan the Barbarian 1982 but they had it all 3 nights at 6:30 too early for us. Got back to the room and seriously did nothing else but watch tv and zone out.
Friday, we ended up on the swing shift as they called it, so we hit up the dealer's room for a bit getting pins and a free token pull (also glad we did that when we did) and didn't really buy anything on that day that I can think of, may change when I actually pull out and look at everything. The shift was also kind of slow, we went at 11, they said no come back at 12 so we did and then we worked until 4 which gave us two hours, but not really because we didn't get off in time or maybe we didn't actually start till 1, anyways, I RUSHED back over to the Westin to get the buttons to my friend and then we were off again to the fountains to get more photos (though we first had to find someone else because they got lost) and I really like how those photos came out so you'll probably get to see most of them. After that we headed back over to the mall for more food because seriously YUM! *laughs* Oh and the day before we had a lovely chat with the wife of a gamer who was waiting for him there at the mall. It was cool. After that I think we came back to the room again to veg and watch the new Thundercats episode. <3 I really can't remember doing much else.
Sat, ended up asking for it off just to make things a little less stressful. Spent a great deal of time in the morning in the dealer's room, looking around and talking to our author again, also meeting a nice guy by the name of Shelby, we share some views and differ in others, he also lives in MI, not too far away. Interesting. Very chatty we were. Also did an unexpected purchase, hear me out though, we were about to get in line for the Mage Wars demo but the weight was insane and I didn't really like the freebee so much, I turn around and look over to see Angel and Buffy comics for a DAMN good price. "Not Fade Away" I got for 7, Spike: After the Fall and Angel: After the Fall vol 4, for 8 ea. YEAH! When usually they are $20-25 each. I only wish I could have grabbed more. But then, and I had to use Meg's phone, to check my bank account, couldn't use anymore money, was about to get myself into trouble. So the dice I got for bro and Nat I paid in cash as I did with all the rest of my purchases. After that headed yet again to the Marriot, after a quick stop of eating lunchables (though I think that was the first time and right now I'm suddenly talking about the 2nd time), and registered, since it was too early for me to get anything else for the run we headed back to the room for an hour or so, also ate a bit more since we were still very hungry and I wasn't going to be eating anything again until after 10:30. Got back over there with me leaving most everything behind in the room so as to not have to check any bags at the Marriot. Chatted with Shelby some more and then parted ways to finish getting everything which including my wrist band, tokens and character card. It was awhile before everyone else shows up so I had time to look through all of the tokens I had acquired. I was going to do Wizard until they told me memorization was involved well my brain was out to lunch so I switched to Fighter. It meant out of all those tokens (about 25+) I only used 3-4 of mine and borrowed 4-5. Not what I was expecting, but at least I also got to lend out 1, I thought it was 2....but hoping it wasn't because I only got 1 back. Hard to keep track of a little. I gave Meg back hers, though I want to see if I can trade for one of her coins, I really like it, we'll see. The run itself took about an hour or a little more, it was very creative and entertaining tough I need to get better at the attack system. I won't get into details, at least, here. Over all a much good time and a well balanced game enough puzzle vs combat for me though I would like to try other ones. We survived with all of our 9 (instead of 10) party members and we each got 3 coins from it and EXP, the coins/tokens let you get buttons, cups, or token pulls. I went with a button and 2 token pulls, I was also given two tokens for a hug. It was cute. I got a picture I think was most if not all of our party. Posted soon. Allen invited me along with his friends to dinner. How exciting and the most interesting dinner I've had in a long time, I was the youngest at that point though I kept up fairly easily with most to all of the conversation topics. That made me happy and the little bit of attention I got from Allen though from what it sounds like L.A is a very different world from what I'm use to. Never the less it was fun and good company. I have a photo of some of them on my FB. After dinner I walked back about 6 blocks to the hotel by myself, woo, look at that, no one has to worry about me in the middle of the night. It was rather safe like I had hoped it would be, got back to the room to find that most people were in a bad mood from their dinner as well as making changes to what the group could be in the next year. Won't get anymore into that. Didn't get to sleep until 2.
Sunday, so early. People were getting up, packing, not a mad house thank goodness, but certainly a lot of moving. I was doing my best to get rid of whatever I could and condense. I think it worked. Though we couldn't get a cart and had to check in a lot of stuff in the downstairs baggage. Not fun. But nothing was lost...though I did lose my glass ring in the bed in the middle of the night. Luckily I checked everywhere including the bed and found it, I was so freaking out, though I didn't pay full price the ring is not cheap. We get over to the convention center and it was just and odd day with people going in and out, I ended up snagging up a $50 book for $5. Yeah, also got a free card mat, took a lot more business cards, got the last of the free buttons for the weekend, and I think that was it though we passed through the dealer's room several more times. Heh. I didn't win anything which was to be expected, I wasn't feeling lucky in that area. But I was able to make many new friends and get info for others especially cool items I'd like to look into down the road. Also, I hate square for saying my phone isn't good enough to work with their product. XD We got to say goodbye to Jessica (who made my hat), also I ended up in a quick strange interview that I think I really don't want to know what happened with it, and our new author friend and to Shelby, of course all of our other jail n bail buddies and luckily I did get to say goodbye to Allen, Damian and Neil. So many interesting people. I also met a nice fellow with a cute HP shirt that gave me his tokens for no real reason other than I was a newer player. I thanked him of course and we packed up the car. Ride home was quick and painless except for the one bathroom stop we NEEDED to make.
That's pretty much it, long post is long.
(took about 1 and 45 minutes to write up)
