Christmas Day with Team Morgenstern. The halls were decked, and gay apparel was absolutely donned.
Jay and his mother came -- Mom and Dad had asked, and occasional disagreements or not, Mrs. Sayers had a hard time saying no when they asked.
As soon as they were at the door, Clara pounced "Jaaaaaay!" As hugtackles go, it was reasonably skilled.

Well, that had happened.
It was all very weird, scary, and exhausting. But it definitely just emphasized that the oommitment she'd made was for real. And worth it, what with more people being safer and all because she'd been able to help. And now they had a whole little Hero (or Heroine) Education thing going, apparently, and that was going to help a lot, and the people seemed nice.
She was there now, but nothing much was happening at the moment, so she was sitting outside on a rock, had her guitar out and was playing "Rainbow Connection."

Backstory:
The daughter of an army chaplain and a kindergarten-teacher, the sister of a Titan -- or of two Titans, since 'everybody knows Jay is the Laurie to our March Girls, assuming they know who those are, and how could we not in the same family with Ruth?' -- Clara is the youngest of 'Captain Morgenstern's All-Blonde Commando Squad.' She does well in school, but best in music.
Having been lovingly raised in a family that could possibly be called "fundamentalist Unitarian Universalists" (a religion founded on the idea that no matter what the path, all souls make it to their proper destination in the end, no one beyond redemption) Clara embraces the blend of wholesome and hippie.
While extremely respectful of law and order by general family precedent, she has an interest in certain amounts of disorderliness and does consider herself the official family 'troublemaker,' (Jay can't be. He has to stay shaped up to be a football champion, marry Ruth, and live happily ever after, obviously) although her attempts are as gentle and polite as possible.
Clara helped do dishes at the local Free Lunch program for the homeless as soon as she could reach the sink, has pursued the philosophical introspection recommended for the junior high years by her family and church -- though with a more casually poetic flair than her orderly eldest sister -- and is studying the appropriate Sunday School pamphlets to consider becoming a vegetarian for environmental sustainability purposes.
She has been Keystone Junior High's locally notorious source of fresh enthusiasm, and that hasn't changed starting high school. She would have considered becoming a cheerleader, except there's a history in local practitioners of the sport of criminality at the worst and far too much make-up and exploited flirtation at the least. The Morgensterns don't approve of that sort of thing.
Clara has been recently approached by a Blue Lantern recruiting Sister.

Dad had his phone off for a pastoral thing. Mom, Jane, and Gail were all in their classes. Ruth must be in class or have broken her phone with all That Stuff. Clara really needed to start talking this out now, and not a single member of Team Morgenstern had their phone on.
Except one.
