Spore!in

Today was a rather uneventful day. I did get to configure an iPod touch with a Cisco VPN, rather interesting. It's nice to know that now the 2.0 software does support Cisco VPN IPSec stuff. Other then that, nothing to wonderful happened. I finally remembered to bring home my saddle & bridle so that I could clean it. Hopefully I can do that either Friday or this weekend sometime.

Tomorrow at work we've got no work, but rather some wellness thing we need to attend. I don't think I shall complain as I am getting paid to not work, sounds good. I think [info]emilie is going to come and pick me up too, which is going to be awesome. Today there were absolutely no seats on the bus on the way up to work.

After work, I did work at the barn, was nice seeing my horse. Apparently they had some hail there, but he didn't mind it, I guess the skimpy fly sheet worked for even that. The other horses, were like, "ahhhh!! what's this stuff hitting me!!". LOL.

Anyways, as the subject of this entry mentions, SPORE! I did get my hands on a copy, and yes I've been playing it since about 8pm this evening. It's an amazing game, I think I shall definitely purchase the Galactic Edition as this game definitely deserves my $50 or whatever. Emilie loves it to, we're definitely going to make some awesome stuff.

I finally got the Xserve rebuilt, my MacBook and Emilie's MacBook rebuilt. Everything but that Cisco switch has been fixed. At some point either on Friday or this weekend, I've got work on that Xserve for Keith and I's consulting appointment next weekend.

Hrmm, so Emilie and I are going to watch a movie now!

Crazy Cat!

Woke up relatively early this morning, got a bunch of work done and some fun things. For some reason the scheme code differed between web server 1 and 3, don't know why, but I fixed it. Also trying to figure out why the site likes to hold up messages (comments, emails, etc...). So what I've done to try to fix that is run a screen on the database server with a process that checks that and sends out the necessary workers to send out messages. Hopefully it works :P

I've also gotten a few comments/emails/support requests about the captchas not working but I cannot replicate the issue. Every time I go to the create a journal page I get a captcha and it seems to work fine. I would just refresh the page if you get a broken image for a captcha.

I've got a consulting appointment setting up Mac OS X Leopard Server this morning. Hopefully it goes relatively quickly. The last appointment I had with them took like 15 minutes haha I know this one will definitely take longer but it should be fun! I'll pretty much be starting from scratch which is nice, but a bit harder. I'll definitely be doing an Advanced Install too.

Last night Emilie and I were going to cook up this fabulous Thai dinner, but we ended up just getting some fried wontons from the Thai place up the street and not cooking up our noodles and stuff, oops...haha

We watched some Ebichu (which [info]emilie thought was hilarious) and just relaxing for the evening. I did read some more Anime Insider, I think I am still like 2 months worth of issues behind haha

I've been really dying to play airsoft, but there's nothing going on here or in MA lately. Fortunately there's a game up here this weekend, I'm trying to get Greg to come up and play.

Consulting & Tactical Gear

Well I finally managed to get the [info]news posted and Scribbld Top 5 going again, since i last checked we're still looking for 2 more communities or so, maybe three, I cannot remember.

On Friday, I had consulting in the AM, I was a bit late because I went West and not East. Not bad though, got a lot of work done on the job and convinced them to get Mac OS X Server instead of using client to run everything. It's going to be one hell of a transition, but I'll get it all figured out, I have a feeling it might be a multi-day process. It was fun though and the people are great.

[info]emilie ended up forgetting her iPhone charger so I had to run that down to her after consulting. I was going to hit up the Army/Navy store, but I wanted to make sure that Greg approved of a black tactical vest going with woodland camo. Unfortunately, I didn't get the go ahead until I got home. Not sure I did much of anything else that afternoon.

Keith and I saw Iron Man that night. Definitely an awesome movie, I enjoyed it. Went out and grabbed a burger afterwards...

Saturday - Didn't really do much, I ended up going to the Army/Navy store, got some helmet covers, ACU and woodland, also got some MREs and black gloves. Also ordered a black tactical vest since it wasn't there when I got there. Fortunately it was the guy working, not that stupid terrible lady who needs massive amounts of work on her customer service skills. This guy was wicked nice, and fun, much better then her. So yeah, I should have the vest by Thursday, which is great.

I did go for a run in the morning, I managed to run up and down the street without a rest, which is good, it means I am in much better condition then I thought I was in. Of course this morning my legs are a bit sore, but nothing ot serious. I will continue with that because I don't want a severe ass kicking come the 18th when I have OP: Devil's Light with Greg.

I also went to see 21 last night with my sister and her friend. It was actually pretty good.

As for today, not much going on. Just taking care of a couple server things, I played some Unreal Tournament III this morning, definitely a lot of fun. Emilie should be home around 3, I am debating as to whether or not I should go work at the barn now, or when she gets here. I might just wait...the weather is just crap.

Well, I hope everyone has a nice weekend, over and out!

CSI, Consulting, Hacks

Had some consulting in Burlington yesterday. Then Ark and I went to the coffee shop and sat down and started to play with Backpack. It's such a nice application, but it's so expensive for what it is. I'd much rather pay like $100 or something to be able to run that on my own server without having such limitations and high price points for what you're getting. Oh well, we're going to try it for 30 days and see how well it works for us. So far it seems to be really cool. We're also using PackRat and I am going to look at getting it all onto the iPhone, so far so good.

After that, I went and picked up my Nintendo DS hack device thingy. And then I went to the barn and [info]emilie and I worked for about an hour. Went home, ordered some pizza (I love delivery). While we were waiting for that to come, I played with my Nintendo DS thing. It's the AceKard 2. I almost got this other one, but after hearing good things about the AceKard...

Continuing...

Oops, got sidetracked and couldn't finish my entry. Anyways, AceKard 2 is cool, just got the 4GB card, and still waiting for some games to download.

I told [info]makkintosshu I'd buy his Sony PSP just incase I break the one I am modding, although I see no reason as to why that would happen since it's no sodering or anything crazy. I also found out you can still play legal games with a modded PSP, which is good to know.

So today, I had some consulting in the morning, really easy, I got the lady to purchase an iPhone since her Nokia was crap. Will get that setup for her when she gets back from vacation in a couple weeks. That'll be cool, I am hoping it works.

I finished up working on the server and setting up the proper permissions. I'll be writing a couple articles on Macintosh-Admin so if you're a geeky Macintosh administrator check it out, it'll be on permissions and VPN.

Today, I'm not doing much else unless I get some more consulting calls. I've scheduled a few appointments for next week so that's good. I might hit up the bike shop that just opened up the block and see if they can change the tire on my bike and if they can I might go for a ride along the back roads. I might go horseback riding because the weather is really nice, or I might just sit down a relax and play some Resident Evil or something.

I've submitted a post on lj_dev to see why they included this chunk of code on the support pages that usually rejects people, I don't know how [info]kratos/[info]cloud got into the support queue haha But I've ripped out the code chunk and inserted my own which seems to be working for the moment.

Have a lovely day everyone!

Call of Duty 4

Yesterday I had a consulting appointment which went quite well. It was my first appointment in about a year. I am kinda sad that I took my current job, but with all the mish-mash going on with the new South Burlington store and all it felt like it was the only option for me so that I didn't get lost in all the chaos. I would much have rathered to have stayed as a consultant, but between the new store and Berkey leaving it just didn't seem like the best idea at the time. Anyways, the job was simple, a basic white glove with data transfer.

It was going quite well until we have to install the AOL software and get that working. Something that was supposed to take me 1-2 hours took about 3 to 3.5 which was terrible. Oh well, more $$$ for me.

After that I went to the S. Burlington store and just hung out, but then I talked to [info]makkintosshu and I went to his house. I had 2 hours to kill before I had class. I wasn't going to drive back home and then back up to class.

So we played my brand spankin' new copy of Call of Duty 4. Him, Keith and I had been in the beta and we had an absolute blast. We played some of the new maps which I enjoyed.

Class was eh, nothing special. I found out that my professor and I have had quite the experience and fun times with OSCommerce. Horrid software, but it seems to get the job done...

After class, I came home and played some COD4, got myself to level 5.

Today, I had to work my normal job. I mostly continued working on making sure all the product code was validated. Something I am being completely underpaid to do which is sorta shitty. I managed to get out around 3:30 with a new server in hand.

I am going to sell my Xserve G4 and replace it with a Core 2 Duo 1.83GHz Mac mini. I think that's more then enough power for the stuff that server does. That and it's even more powerful then the Xserve. I did get another little external drive to mirror the OS on...I will use my other 2 FW400 drives to make another mirror for the FTP dump, and Uma will stay as it is, except I'll make it use USB2 and not FW800 (which kinda sucks, but it works...).

So I did setup the Mac mini so hopefully all I should have to do is plug it in and change some IPs, make sure DNS is updated, import mail, SQL databases and rsync over home directories. It'll be running on Mac OS X Leopard Server 10.5. It's really a wonderful piece of software, Beautifully crafted and VERY easy to use. I had wanted to do a standard setup but I can't because I can't do much customization and what I need to do (multiple short names, firewall, etc...) isn't available in either the Standard or Workgroup configurations. So that's all ready to be set live!

I played a shit ton of Call of Duty tonight with Keith and Greg. I do hope Morgan picks up the game cause it's a really lot of fun!! I am now a level 18 or 19, can't quite remember. There's this one really cool perk that makes your grenades fall out when you die and blow up, usually killing the other person.

I'll be bringing my xBox 360 with me this weekend, and I'll play through single player mode in COD4, and I'll bring my CSI game and maybe a couple others.

Alright, I need sleep. Peace.
