Rename Tokens...

So I've been working pretty much all day on getting rename tokens working. I think we've almost got it. Fortunately squeaky is going to lend a hand and help out with some of the coding. I had to pull a bunch of code out and do things that you're probably not supposed to do to get this version working. And this version doesn't quite accept rename tokens yet, but that's definitely coming. So I thought I'd leave it open for FREEEEE for the next 7 days, get you guys to test it out, let me know how it works. Then I might toss out like 4-5 tokens when we get that working to do some testing on that.

I also worked on getting the searching working, so that's not quite finished yet, but it seems to be searching although, not much data is returned yet.

Boy what a day, I've been staring at this screen for about 12 hours now. My eyes feel like they're on fire!!! Hahaha.

So tonight, I think I might watch some more Fruits Basket, even though the English dub is really getting to me haha. And I'm not really that tired believe it or not.

Tomorrow, I am hoping the weather clears up. It's pretty much been pouring non-stop since 12pm or so. I would love to go out riding since I've been inside all day.

The MRTG graph for the MySQL server isn't working and hasn't since Friday afternoon, it's annoying the hell out of me...I'll probably spent hours trying to fix it too haha

Anyways, that's enough yapping for now, off to fix this issue...if it's not one thing it's another....lol.

War All Of The Time...

It's pretty much been forever since I've updated. I've been insanely busy with about a billion things going on. So [info]emilie  and I are pretty much done. I'm sick of her jerking me around and all of that bullshit. It's funny because now even her roommate is starting to dislike her. It's a common trend I am seeing with this girl, so it's a wonder that I hung around with her for 4 years. Pretty much everyone she comes in contact with her, she ends up lying and laying out all of her bullshit and they end up hating her. It's too bad. She used to be an amazing girl. If she'd just stop lying and being who she used to be (an amazing, cute, funny and wonderful person) then she might actually keep some of these people as friends. I don't get it...it's sad really because she really was amazing...but whatever. It's not my issue anymore. I've moved on and I am actively seeking out a new girlfriend, someone who's honest, caring and enjoy being with me because they like me.

There are so many other things I want to say about this girl, but I am not sure if it's worth my time haha

I applied for a job as a Linux Server Administrator at one of the local ISPs but I was too over-qualified and asking for too much money haha. I'm too smart for my own good, so while that kind of sucks (sucks because I love Linux/server administration) it's a good thing because I will now stay at UVM and I will probably be getting a degree in Equine Science and possibly Japanese communication which I am really excited about! It's going to be a lot of fun. I'm taking Japanese Communication and Fundamentals in Nutrition this summer, and I'll be taking probably another 2-3 classes this fall. Really awesome...

I've been working with [info]morgan  to build our new server. 95% of it is out of pocket money which sucks, but we love doing it so it'll be worth it. Currently we've only got the RAID card, case, rails and the brackets for the PSU. The case is wicked sexy. I'll post some pics and stuff when we get more of the gear in.

I've been riding a lot, and my horse is showing it. He's getting nice and muscley(??) haha. He's looks amazing. I'll be riding again tomorrow night after work, so that'll be fun! And tomorrow is Friday, so that makes it even more fun!!

I've started watching Welcome to NHK, and I like it so far, although I've only seen one episode. I have a feeling it'll be some good fun :) I also finished Death Note, which I absolutely loved. Really awesome series :D Ryuk is hilarious! I really want to watch Resident Evil: Degeneration, I semi-watched it like a month or two ago, but I would really like to actually have time to pay attention and not watch it while doing 200 other things. Haha.

Not much else going on besides all that...today I'm just going home to relax. I might work on a bit of my Japanese stuff, but that's about it.

Weekend Over!

Well starting with Friday, I got a bunch of work done in the AM. I actually had a fair amount, more then I thought I would have. I did a lot of preparation for the server work we did this weekend. Obviously I didn't get everything covered because we did hit a few snags while upgrading the servers. So after I got my work done I got all my gear packed up and headed to where the servers are kept. I worked on more prep work while there and then [info]emilie came. She bought some stuff I forgot which was good.

Around 1pm the guy from GMA came out and checked over our lines and everything. We ended up splitting the voice and data wires and then we ran a cable directly from the data lines and pretty much right into the modem. Definitely noticed a BIG improvement and now I've noticed 0 disconnections since yesterday which is awesome. So now Scribbld should be up and running at 100%!

I don't think anything spectacular happened on Friday night. I attempted to get to bed early so that I could wake up early and start working at 8am like I mentioned.

.... interruption....

I just sent this photo to Keith, he should obviously get this instead of iPhone --

.... ok back to your regularly scheduled program ....

So I woke up a bit later then I had wanted to on Saturday, but by 8:20am we were working on the server. The first snag we hit was that one of the web servers wouldn't connect to the Internet. it's NIC module wasn't be loaded. Fortunately after some poking around and chatting on #Gentoo I got it working and made sure it loaded up on boot too.

The next snag we hit was the server to be Scribbld 1 ran some rather new hardware so it had trouble finding the hard drive. After bother #Debian I remembered the last time we installed Linux on it we had to use this special custom build which included drivers for all this new stuff. So after getting a bootable USB key we got the base system installed.

The last major snag we hit was we forgot to snag the Last.fm code from the development box so that feature was "disabled" until we could get to it today.

[info]morgan and I worked until 10pm or so last night. We pretty much finished up all the big things and had about 8-10 smaller things left to do today. We did 2-3 of them today, the rest we'll complete over the course of the next 2 weeks. I don't expect it to take that long though.

[info]emilie and I went to the barn this afternoon, played with the kitties, Bethany did really well in her A circuit show this past week. We almost brought another kitty home, we'll see. When I got home I added the Last.fm code and made sure it worked and it did. I'm just working on another Gentoo install for a private WoW server. I am hoping I can bring the databases over from the old percheron install, but you never know.

Alright, I think it's time to go relax and no more computer!

Horse Days...

First here's a few photos [info]emilie took this morning. Thought I would share them with you all! That's my little kitty!

So anyways, I had to pick up my parents at the airport yesterday, they were just getting back from a trip to Ireland, kind of sounds boring to me, but hey, they had fun. Maybe if they had some horsey activities over there, I could handle it, and I am sure they do, but I could probably do the same thing here, for a lot cheaper.

Today, not much going on, just finishing up some Mint installs. It's some really great web analytics software, check it out if you have your own website and stuff. Also working on a new social website for equestrians. It reminds me a lot of FaceBook, but obviously not a feature-filled, but I think people will enjoy it.

I actually chatted with Adelaide the other day, one of my ex-girlfriends who I've not spoken to in ages. She was a really great person, still is, we definitely had a lot of fun. Unfortunately she's way down in CT, but who knows, maybe we'll meet-up sometime.

It's miserable here, crappy and raining...but I think I will still go to the barn as I've not got a lot of other work to get done and I've got some really delicious (or so they say) horse treats to give out.

I am thinking about going back to school since I might have guaranteed admissions to the University of Vermont, but ONLY if I can get into the Equine Science program. I think it will definitely be a challenge but it would be a real lot of fun and stuff to learn all about it. We'll see, just waiting for an email back from my advisor.

Well, I'm off to get some other things, done. I've been messing around with Linux and I love it. I've been using it for servers for many years but now I've turned my main desktop into a Linux machine and I must say, it's awesome, although not as good as Mac OS X, but definitely much better then Windows! Have a lovely day everyone!

Computer Report - 2003

This is a report I wrote to get into the Cisco Networking class instead of going to normal high school. It's kinda funny, old school :)

=====

Computer Report
Jimmy Brancaccio 6.02.03

First off I would like to mention that this started off as four pages and it was still a work in progress. The other night, I totally forgot it was on my hard drive and I formatted it...so now you're getting a much slimmed down version of that.

Over the course of my life I have been using computers for more then half of it, I have used many different operating systems, many different applications, tons of different pieces of hardware so here's a brief overview of what I have encountered in my computer life.

Operating Systems:

>> Microsoft Windows 95 -- This was my first operating system. I didn't get to know it too well like I know other operating systems.

>> Microsoft Windows 98 and Windows 98se -- These have become quite familiar with me because the PCs in my school run on this operating system for the majority.

>> Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional & Advanced Server -- I used both of these for my server at home for 5-6 months.

>> Microsoft Windows ME -- One of the WORST operating systems I have ever used. Way to buggy and I got way to many BSODs. I wouldn't recommend this operating system to anyone.

>> Microsoft Windows XP Home & Pro and Media Center Edition -- These are a much better OS then Windows ME. I ran these operating systems for a while on my normal computers.

>> Microsoft Windows 2003 Standard & Web Editions -- These are my current operating systems that run both my servers and my normal computers on the LAN.

>> Mandrake -- This is the first distribution of Linux I had ever used.

>> Gentoo -- Still working on installing this distribution of Linux and maybe I will have gotten it by the time you read this.

>> College Linux -- This is the 3rd distribution of Linux that I have used. I guess it could be the 2nd since I haven't really gotten Gentoo installed.

>> Microsoft Windows Longhorn -- This operating system isn't even in alpha build yet, but I snagged a copy to check it out. It's much like XP right now.

Hardware:

I have used way to much hardware to tell you right now. I use IDE HDDs, SCSI HDDs, Ethernet cards, motherboards, sound cards, video cards, tape drives, CD-RW drives, optical mice and the list goes on.

Networking:

I have a LAN at home so it was mandatory for me to lear how to maintain and install one. I have no big books explaining the TCP/IP Protocols or the OSI layers. I just read articles on the net and the manuals provided with my networking stuff. I run a fileserver and webserver so since I am on a LAN I have configured my router to send the right port requests to the right computers. (i.e. port 80 requests get sent to the webserver computer). Also learning how to setup wireless internet connection was something I learned since some of the computers on my LAN are connected to a wire-less router for internet access and file sharing.

Servers:

Just thought I should make this it's own category because it's what I mainly do each day of my life. I run about 5 or 6 different servers here. I have a FTP server, webserver, radio station server, Counter Strike MP server, MP3 server and an IRC server. They were all setup and configured by me. I could go into much more depth but I am running out of time. They all run on Windows 2003 though. I would love o move them ll onto Linux but I have not enough knowledge to do that right now.

- It's 7:30am, I just set up this new server last night. It's called WASTE. It was written by Justin Frankel, the man who brought you WinAMP and several other applications. WASTE is much like IRC, and IM and file-sharing combined all into one. Well when I went to bed about 8 hours ago there was about 7 or 8 people connected to my server, when I woke up about 10 minutes ago and checked, there was about 400 people connected sharing files and chatting...amazing isn't it? I am still learning about how this WASTE network works...

Programming:

>> C++ - I have very little knowledge of this language as I took a course in it 3 years ago and I think I have forgotten everything I learned.

>> DarkBASIC -- As it says it's a BASIC programming language. I didn't enjoy it very much.

>> PHP -- I am just learning this right now. I have some scripts up to use.

>> Visual Basic -- I took a course on this language last year and I am okay with this language. I have several applications made but it's nothing that's to special.
