Official [info]flamecup Statement
After receiving a massive amount of feedback from the community (all of which was appreciated as most of it was constructive and very insightful) I've decided to leave [info]bitchbook and [info]flamecup open. You know why, because this kind of shit happens every single day whether you like it or not. If you decide to participate in it then so be it, good for you. I am not here to tell you what you can partake in and what you cannot. It's up to you.

It's also up to you as a member of Scribbld.net as to what you post in your personal journals. It's up to you to set the security of a post, it's up to you as to whether or not you want to post that nude photo of you drunk last New Years. I do not care (so long as you're of age, 18), but you do so willingly and under the understanding that people will be able to view those images, text or anything else you post should it be public or under a friends only post.

Choose your friends wisely. I cannot police how you choose your friends, but make sure you trust who you friend on this website. I do not have anything do with MySpace, FaceBook or other journaling websites.

Communities like [info]flamecup thrive on you posting something you shouldn't be posting. Don't add fuel to the fire, it's not that hard to avoid communities like that. No one is forcing you to look at them or read/view them. I personally stay away from them unless there's something going on that I need to be aware of. If you cannot handle them then definitely just stay away, stay within your group of friends and trusted communities.

I apologize if this is not the outcome you had wished for but for the sake of keeping as much peace as possible, I ask you, the users of Scribbld to make sure whatever you post or link to or people you affiliate yourselves with, that you trust them. It's not that much to ask, and why shouldn't you...why would you want to get involved into drama sorts of things, by you commenting or adding fuel to their fire, you only have yourself to blame. I am not asking you to join those communities to police them, just stay away. Enjoy life, enjoy your friends, post those nude New Years photos, but only to people you trust...most importantly think about what you post before you post it and to whom you're posting it too.

Some people just need to grow up...some people just need to step back...whatever it is, don't let this stupid website own your life...it's a friggin website...stay in the communities you're comfortable with and friend who you know and trust, yeah some friendships go back, just remove them from your friends list...the moderators on the community have rules and if anything/anyone breaks their rules they're good about removing it. Yes, maybe not right away but it does get done...

The decision is final, and I hope you all respect it. Thank you for you time.

I am respecting your decision but I want to point something out:

"Communities like [info]flamecup thrive on you posting something you shouldn't be posting"

If you yourself say that they shouldn't be posting it, then why allow them to post it?

I think it's more directed toward things that you don't want the entire world to know. Like if you post personal things that you don't want people to know, you SHOULDN'T be posting it.

I think.

As someone who simply likes to watch flamecup and laugh at all the e-drama (and thinks that most people who are flamed have done something to deserve this), I appreciate you rethinking closing the community.

You are just another person who likes the drama.

Congrats, really. This really shows what kind of people lurk on Scribbld.

So you're going to personally attack me? That's really mature. And then you wonder why there's drama, why you get flamed, why people would start issues. I just think it's funny that people bring things on themselves (by making bitchy, snide remarks and personal attacks on people they don't know AT ALL, maybe?) and then whine about it. Yeah, I think the drama can be funny to watch, sue me. I keep it out of my own life, but it doesn't mean that I won't laugh when it's someone else who brought it on themselves.

Go take your petty little comments elsewhere, sweetheart.

Excuse me, I was defending myself. I replied to JIMMY and she personally attacked me because I wasn't bummed that flamecup is staying around. So no, I will not ever stop defending myself when I feel that it's necessary.

Or friends lock. And watch who you add, instead of collecting friends that you don't know or trust.

You always had to do that. THIS IS THE FUCKING INTERNET AND NOTHING IS PRIVATE. It doesn't matter if you think it is, it's not. If you choose to ignore that, that is not anybody's problem but your own. If you want a journal to write your deepest darkest secrets, get a fucking paper one.

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]glaceon

Thats the thing. To make new friends, you must add them to get to know them. And usually those that go after each other have known each other for a long time.

Preaching to the choir so hold your breath, and I dont use the online blog for deepest darkest secrets. You should refrain from assuming things.

I wont say anything further to you since you obviously are missing everything as a whole and are only looking at bits and pieces.

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]grenades

I'm not missing anything at all.

Friends FILTERS. Think about it. You have one filter for people you actually know, and another for people you don't really know. If someone you have known for awhile goes after you, then you obviously did something to start it or you just keep bad company. If you keep those kinds of people around (and chances are, you've seen what kind of people they can be if you've known them for a long time) then that is your problem.

I applaud you, [info]jimmy. Other journaling sites would more than likely shut down communities like this (cosplayfucks @ lj anyone?) because people are getting "hurt" now and again. But the fact of the matter is that we all choose whether or not to view communities like [info]flamecup and [info]bitchbook.

If you don't want to see it, don't click on it. You can just flat out pretend it doesn't exist. The only one making these decisions is each and every one of us.

I knew there was a reason I liked scribbld. ♥

IMHO, I think you did the right thing. This is your site and all. People should respect your decision. And I also agree with those that say that people do frequent those communities of their own free will and that they only have themselves to blame if they are offended. Those places tell you, from the very start, what their purpose are. If you don't like it, don't subject yourself to it. Just back away and don't look.

Jimmy, your a smart person!

I think that decision was a wise one, and I commend you for it. Thank you for not giving into the cry babies who can't handle that the whole word doesn't think they are amazing. I like having a nice blog, and I have found a happy home here at Scribbld after GJ died, and I would like it to stay that way...with flamecup and all!

I know I'm not a big fan of the whole flamecup thing (hey if you like it fair enough) but I think you made the right decision.

Why? Because to be honest, alot of the people who moan about the flames are just fueling the drama, I've noticed a certain member leaving a support ticket for someone sending a flame saying DIAF and they felt threatened, and when I looked at both sides, it seems she wasn't really feeling all that threatened when she was continuously going to the community starting arguements, that's hardly the way someone who feels "threatened" acts. If I felt threatened I wouldn't be trying to get them suspended and starting arguments with them.

And if she seriously did feel that way over DIAF then she needs some sort of parental controls on her computer because sooner or later, someone is going to insult you on the Internet, whether you deserve it or not.
