Consulting + Nippet [17 Nov 2005|07:58am] Wheeee, how crazy it's all been! Geek Crap: So I did get iPod Linux onto my iPod. It's odd though because it doesn't show the video menu in Podzilla I think it's called. I have to use the file browser and find the movie files on my iPod and then I can just click on them and they play. I've noticed it doesn't like playing big files so there goes watching a movie or something. I would think the video iPod would have no issues with those. I wonder how big/small a full length movie (700MBs) would go into when re-encoded into H.264 or MPEG4 I think it is...Oh well, I am happy with it...I can watch my anime and stuff! Consulting today was nice and easy for the most of it. All up until Jim from NoWirz wanted me to get this Backup agent running on a machine, with NO documentation to follow. The rest of it was setting up an iMac G5 and working on getting Fetch to work with their FTP server, which the complete WRONG solution internally at least. And I wouldn't be using Fetch, I'd go for YummyFTP or Transmit. Oh well... So Keith loved how I got the video working on my iPod, He always loves those little hacks and shit. Duane was pretty impressed also! It's so nice to know people, such as BleuLlama. I found out he's one of the iPL devs. Now of course he's going to be getting a million and one questions from me when I am trying to use that stuff haha If you use iPodLinux he's the one who did the clocks, pod draw, the appearences, color schemes, light game and wumpus game...yah he did all those. He totally earns the title of elite being in my book. Horsey Chit-Chat: I went to see Nippet today and he was acting much more normal haha I think it's cause he's got a new girlfriend LOL ( pictures! ) So that's him and Irish who is a little bit bigger then him which I find to be a little funny haha She's a really sweet horse though, loves to give kisses. I didn't go riding today, but maybe tomorrow. Other Chit-ChatI stayed up chillen with Emilie and Sean last night. Video on iPod Photo [17 Nov 2005|07:59am] Well, to say the least today has been very hectic. Woke up, made breakfast for myself and Bruce Lee, cleaned some tack and finally headed to work. Start Geek Talk: I basically did AS-IS machines the whole day and I did some installs towards the end of the day. Keith is re-wiring his house for phone and ethernet so I told him how he could go about it and all. I also talked to Berkey and possibly a new client who needs a lot of webspace. So this is more then doable with our new Xserve setup. I do want to re-do the entire Xserve though. I'll probably kill all the drives, RAID/mirror 2 of them and then use the other 2 for storage. I am sure it'll be possible, at least I hope. Although, maybe it would be better to RAID them in sets of 2, one for OS and one for data. Maybe that would be the better route. Also thinking about just installing Mac OS X Tiger, not the server edition. Then I could use the PureFTP control system and not the crappy one the normal FTP server has in Server. We'll see. And hopefully I am going to get paid this week for my consulting work. I spent a lot of time, probably way to much time trying to get video working on my iPod Photo 30GB v1.2 firmware this evening. I did everything the really shitty guide told me to do, and it never worked which pissed me off because i thought it would be easier said then done. I did get Linux on the damn thing with really no issue, it's just getting the video stuff to work. I used the nightlies of podzilla and the kernel and it said that would do it, but I never saw where or how to put the videos on the iPod...they have really crappy instructions on iPodLinux.org Oh well...maybe I'll give it a go another time! I got a new IP address from GMAVT this afternoon. They had emailed me back on 9/15 but I was too lazy to do anything about it. So I finally called them today and of course they had to call me back cause the woman was too dumb to do it herself...comon! So the guy called back around 5ish when it was supposed to be an hour later...it was about 3 hours later...and we got that going. I've updated my DNS servers with the appropriate info now...I hope! I finally got around to listening to Hi My Name Is Mark...and the 24th and 25th issues of TWiT. Damn I miss that stuff so much! I still have so many more podcast episodes to catch up on. Horse Talk: If I do then I am going to buy Nippet that StateLine 1200D blanket. That is if I have enough for that and this months board. I got to figure out how to measure for those, I will ask Emilie later tonight. Apparently she talked the people at her work into letting her come in early so she can go out riding tomorrow. I would like to also since I haven't gone since Sunday! I did see Nippet today though. It was weird though, I don't know if you've seen the picture of this other horse in the paddock next to his, the one with the purple bell boots. Anyways, he was acting like a crazy fool today, he was running up and down the side of the fence and now I think it's a mare, well she was bucking and stuff and it looked like they wanted to kill each other haha Oh boy did he look pissed off haha Of course a couple apples cheered him up for 2.3 seconds. Of course it was muddy and he was all over the place...I was going to bring him in but then he got mad lol So I said, fine... Other Crap: inkandbullets your magic has worked and Emilie is actually feeling a lot better now :) Haha Hrmmm....I'm behind on friends posts I think, so bad bad me, I've been a little busy as you can see though! Well I guess I should get back to homework...I'm so glad I have no web project to do for Dinosaurs, just 2 chapters and 2 chapters worth of review questions LOL. Ok bye bye then! post comment
