How do I bloody well do this. Just - blurt it right on out there? Dither up first? Oh hell.

I was wondering if there is interest in reforming Dumbledore's Army, the Defense Against the Dark Arts organisation. I know that last time it existed under a veil of secrecy, but this time around, we have the Headmistress's encouragement approval as well as staff support. The role of the DA was vital to the victory we achieved at Hogwarts just a bit back, and it's clear that it's paramount for all of us to not lose practical skills of battle against Dark Forces in a time of apparent peace. Unlike your DADA class, we focus not on theory with supplementary spell practise but instead on hands-on casting of protective and defensive spells. And this time, no sneaking around from bloody sadistic bitch Umbridge the rest of Hogwarts, which is a bit of a bonus.

We're open to all ages, all levels of DADA, though depending on interest, we'll probably have split times between those in the upper levels and those below. But more critical, anyone can join, whether you were in the first DA or not.

So - anyone want to give it a go?

I do, but you knew that already. Do you need any more help with the first meeting?

I'm set, but thanks Gins. What I need help with is Quidditch - can you grab the set on your way over? I have to run to McGonagall's office right before practise. I have a right wicked drill planned, you should be dead excited!

Thanks Ron. I will, but I think we're all set by now. Just need people to be there.

I was thinking Thursdays - Mondays are bad for me too. Isn't that - Runes Club night? Yeah I had to schedule around Hermione. Not too many pockets of time left, you know?

Brilliant, mate, glad you're in.

Thanks Hermione. Took me long enough ay? But we're good now. And I already found a few times that work with you and your demands - I was quite hopeful about your membership.

Is it going to be better than last time around? All that sneaking was not good for my complexion, nor my temperament.

Where is it going to be held? Hopefully not in the Gryffindor common rooms, all that red and gold is digusting. Nor the Great Hall because someone would probably end up messing up and completely destorying any chance of us eating there for some time. And the room of requirement is not good either, it's a pain in the arse to get too and I would much rather not run up seven bloody flights of stairs over and over again. How often is it going to be held? Will it cut into any Quidditch practicies either?

I'm also wondering if you're qualified to teach us or not. Is there going to be outside help this time so we have someone who has something other than the basic knowledge that the rest of us learned as well?

Enough questions, Smith. If you don't want to be there don't come. "Better than last time around"... It was just fine for the rest of us. Maybe it's just you. Bloody annoying git.

I am perfectly within my rights to ask a question if I want to.

Last time around I seem to remember getting detention. So I'm inclined to believe that no, it wasn't fine.

Oh good g-

As stated in the post above, this incarnation of the DA is staff approved and sponsored by the Headmistress herself. I daresay that if it was meant to be secret like last time, I would have advertised it to the whole school. Your complexion is safe - well, at least from this.

Why would we hold it in the Gryffindor Common Room, with members of the club being from other houses? Are you naff? There is still an outside possibility that it might be in the DADA classroom, but Snape is still prat Snape we'll see. It will most likely be in the RoR and that's because it - meets the requirements that a DADA club would need with all of the supplies we could well wish for. I'll let everyone know; but don't worry Smith, if it is in the RoR, we'll be sure to send someone to lead you by the hand to the meeting.

Qualified? Oh because I've never done this before? Oh wait, no I have. Must be because I have no experience in battle or combating dark magic, like you? Oh wait, no not that either. Maybe because you're a pompous wanker? Or maybe because I don't know advanced spells and have never taught them to people who didn't know them? Because when I taught you how to do a patronus - which, by the way, did you ever really get the hang of that? You never really seemed to - that was just a "basic knowledge," correct? I think I'll be fine.

That answer everything Smith? See you at the first meeting.

It was a statement not a question, hence the lack of a question mark following that.

Because Gryffindors are egotistical and seem to want to convert everyone to their brash and uncultured ways? Maybe they should just build a new room for it if people are serious about it.

Do you have a NEWT in it? A degree perhaps? Anything side from what Granger read and relayed to you - which no offense is not exactly the best way to learn. An idiot leading an idiot in that case. If she tells you the incorrect incantation then you'd tell the rest of us the wrong incantation and potentially kill us off.

I mean aside from the whole killing off You-Know-Who and everything else have you been tested? You're 17, you don't know everything and frankly that makes me nervous.

And my patronus is perfectly fine now thank you very much so I would appreciate it if you stopped insinuating that I can't.

Egotistical prick.

I had never seen you form a corporeal patronus before, I think it's a fair insinuation.

Do you really want my resume? Would that satisfy your worries that I don't know enough to teach this? You are going to feel like an arse Smith. But - if you insist.

I received an O on my OWL and my NEWT in DADA these past two years. I produced a corporeal patronus at the age of thirteen, and I can now produce Auror-level defensive spells against Dark Magic due to weekly private tutelage by Professor Snape. I have also received private lessons from Professor emeriti Moody and Lupin, as well as Auror Nymphadora Tonks and Headmistress McGonagall. Oh, and Minister of Magic Kingsley Shacklebot, who is happy to owl you a letter of recommendation on my behalf, if you still are worried about my qualifications. I was offered a position as an Auror before school began, but I asked to return here and finish off my last year of school though most of the time, I don't know why. I am currently being consulted by the Ministry as to the reorginisation of the Auror Office as well as the Ministry's ongoing efforts to better track and understand dark wizards.

Oh. And I defeated Tom Riddle, aka Lord Voldemort, on three occasions, the third resulting in his death.

And for the record, I taught Hermione how to do a patronus, since it is advanced magics. I produced one when I was thirteen, which is what, four years before it's taught? Just so that you don't need to worry about yourself and your safety if Hermione is too busy to "whisper" in my ear.

I can show you whenever you like.

I would actually like a printed resume with written refrences, signed and sealed in a proper manner. A hastily scribbled note does not count. I don't trust your word.

Bloody annoying git.

How about you show me at the DA meeting where we work on patronuses and sending messages through them, hmm?

And no, I won't be doing that. I had no problem with presenting my resume, I can see some value in that, but you see, we have enough interest in the DA - overwhelming, to be honest - with people who never needed to know my "qualifications." If you aren't satisfied, please don't come. I've had enough of your petty attempts at one upsmanship. A pity, since your behaviour during the first battle of Hog - oh wait.

You didn't stay.

Come, don't come. Reply to this with something witty or, more likely, another attempt to "get me." I'm not going to respond. I'm done, Smith.

We'll see you at the first meeting, if you can find a step ladder tall enough to get over yourself.

Fine then I will.

Excuse me for wanting to know more. I don't think it's too much to ask is it?

Damn right I didn't stay. I had no part in the war and I wasn't about to put my neck out for people I don't know. I helped those who I care about and that is it.

Fucking bloody git.

Defense Against the Dark Arts? I'm really horrible and defensive spells and I know we're required to take that class, but do you think it's necessary to know such things?

Well, to me, it's the most important thing that you can know Orla. We can't be sure if peace is going to last, and the battle here at our own school shows that we aren't safe anywhere, really.

But whether or not you're good, that doesn't matter. Everybody's learning together. Last time around, people were learning at different rates, but really in the end, everybody learned spells that saved them and Hogwarts.

If you find yourself needing extra help along the way Orla? I'll help you. This is so important, it's always a pleasure to help out a friend.
