1. Jay made sure to let her know he forgave her for their first meeting.
2. He also apologized for taking so long to do it, admitting it took him a long time to forgive himself.
3. He put in a good word with some of the coaches, and helped her get into college and onto the Cal cheerleading squad
4. East coast or west coast, they still talk on a weekly basis.
5. Ultimately, by being in a position to help someone else with as rough a home life and as troubled a past as he had, much as Ruth helped him all his life, connecting with her helped him get past a lot of his difficulties and move on with life every bit as much as he might have helped her, once he was able to talk to her enough to realize they had a lot in common.
