Full name: Eudoxia (real name unknown)
Age/DOB: Appears 15, is in fact well over a few thousand years old / 331 BC; died in 544 AD
Race: Human, reborn
Occupation: N/A
Birthplace: Alexandria, Egypt
Personality: From exterior appearances, Eudoxia is very cold. She keeps herself under lock and key, unwilling to reveal any personal emotion to anyone, even those she considers dear to her heart. She keeps everyone at a distance, using wit and short remarks to keep questions at bay. In truth, Eudoxia is incredibly insecure about herself and seeks to override this emotion with an aloof nature. Potentially due to the fact that she was readily abandoned by her Maker, Eudoxia seeks to control everything around her to the smallest detail - when she lays claim to something, she will fight for it tooth and nail. Examples of her controlling nature can be found in how she creates her fledglings (having them create one another, so they are all weaker than she) and in how she proclaimed herself to essentially be the empress of Constantinople, threatening to expel Marius and company from her city simply because she did not want to share it with them.
Eudoxia is an incredibly intelligent individual, having been taught to read and write before her impending marriage. She excels in these things and enjoys them immensely, prizing knowledge above all things. Because of this, she enjoys intelligent and well-versed individuals, though more often than not they bring out her insecure side. Eudoxia is only comfortable when she feels that she has the upper hand in any situation.
She has no qualms about feeding on anyone she chooses, though she does prefer someone of wealthier stock and decent bathing habits. She can be highly manipulative, going so far as to lay traps for those she dislikes or desires to hurt. Eudoxia is extremely distrustful, always believing the worst of those around her. Her original form was that of a thirteen or fourteen year old girl with long black hair and black eyes, generally holding herself in a regal posture. She prefers upper class lodgings and the according paraphenalia that goes with those of a higher ranking. Her reborn form is that of a fifteen year old girl, slim with long brown hair and brown eyes. Her PTSD amplifies light and sound, causing flashbacks to the time of her death.
Biography: Eudoxia was an only child in an arranged marriage. Her parents were some of the first settlers to Alexandria, Egypt, when it was first founded by Alexander the Great. Her birth mother died when she was nine years old, and after a respectable mourning period had been observed, her father remarried. Eudoxia and her stepmother never quite saw eye to eye, and her father doted on his daughter far too much (and far too kindly) for the stepmother's tastes. Rather than be concerned with this, however, Eudoxia threw herself into learning, enjoying nothing more than reading books and inhaling languages. Her father wished for her to be educated before she was to be married, in order to write letters to him and so that she might be able to read poetry to her children. Eudoxia reveled in this, since she had an otherwise extremely sheltered childhood, courtesy of the day and age regarding her sex. Eudoxia was betrothed to a man of worthy station before she was fifteen years old - having met the man before, she was perfectly amiable to the match and looked forward to her nuptials, wondering what sort of life she might have in her new home.
A month before her marriage, Eudoxia was kidnapped from her bed by armed thugs. Dragged to an alley some ways from her home, her kidnappers fell to arguing amongst themselves about whether or not to murder her then and there. She knew that the cause of her misfortune was her stepmother, and honestly believed that her life would end that night. Instead, a vampire attacked her kidnappers, killing them all and drinking the blood of one. Eudoxia was unsure of what to make of this development, but stood up bravely and addressed the creature. The vampire, stunned by the fact that a woman was acting with bravado before him, made Eudoxia his fledgling then and there. He was a crude and rough master, but was never unduly cruel with her. Each night was ritualistic in that her hair was cut off and she moved about as a boy among evil and strong men. Her life was expanded a thousand fold, being introduced to new people and sights that she'd never imagined could have existed before. Perhaps her favorite was swimming in the sea, loving the buoyancy and freedom of such an experience. She did her best to make herself useful to her maker, mostly through organizing and cleaning their hiding place.
One night, her maker went without cutting her hair - this in itself was something that worried Eudoxia, for he cut her hair every night without fail. Rather than take her hunting, her maker instead took her to a temple. There she was allowed to drink from Akasha, the Queen of the Damned. Eudoxia took to Akasha's worship easily, and became tenfold times stronger from the queen's rich blood. Her maker abandoned her that night, leaving Eudoxia to her own devices. She continued to cut her hair and dress as a boy, eventually ensnaring the love of a mortal man. On the night he proclaimed his love for the male Eudoxia and asked her to run away with him to a city where his family lived, Eudoxia revealed herself for both the woman and vampire she truly was. The man was shocked, and as punishment, Eudoxia turned him into a blood drinker. Rather than be turned away, however, the man continued to prove his love and together they retired to his family's city. However, they spent only a few years there before the great burning began - Eudoxia, thankfully, was strong enough to endure the flames, but her lover was burnt to naught but ash. She lamented not having him drink from the mother before they left her home city, but it was too late. Quickly she traveled back to the hidden temple, but all the priests there could tell her was that the royal pair had been stolen by a roman named Marius.
It took Eudoxia many long years to recover from the great burning. She traveled everywhere, to Rome, to Crete, to every place she could think of in order to find this Marius and the Pair he had stolen away from everyone. During this time she took lovers, made fledglings, and grew stronger and wiser with each passing year. Finally she accepted that she would never find this Marius and instead settled in the city of Constantinople, fashioning herself to be its vampiric Empress who truly pulled the strings under the rule of the city's human monarch. It was in the Empress' own palace where she found a virginal slave girl with long dark hair, who read in a voice not unlike a songbird's, who's innocence and intelligence reminded her of herself when she had been a mortal. Eudoxia took Zenobia from the Empress' palace, kidnapping her in the night. She knew it would not be long before Zenobia loved her, and she was right; after having Asphar give Zenobia the dark gift, Eudoxia treated Zenobia with special care. The dark haired fledgling slept close to her every day, and during the night, would read to her from all manner of books. When strong vampires invaded (and Eudoxia believed that every vampire who came through Constantinople to be a usurper to her self-made throne) her city, she hid Zenobia away for her own safety until she could defeat and destroy these intruders.
And then, one night, an amazing thing occurred. Marius, along with two companions, entered her city. With him he brought the Pair, and Eudoxia immediately set about trying to separate the keeper from the kept. She invited him into her home, warned him to give her the Pair or face destruction. Eudoxia was infinitely stronger than Marius, and he knew this, but rather than bow down to her, instead he killed two of her fledglings and left her home, though not before threatening her himself. He had drunk from the mother so many times that, despite their great age difference, he was the stronger of the two. He also discovered his gifts while in her presence, setting Rashid aflame with nothing but mere thought.
Eudoxia begged Marius to ask of the mother who she would have as a keeper - she descended into the shrine with Marius, wanting to see if she would be allowed to drink from the mother a second time. Though the mother beckoned her, Eudoxia was nearly killed and had to be saved by Marius. She planned a great trick - she would go to Marius' place of residence, feign apology, and there she would take a meal. Her fledglings brought her a man of wealth, a merchant, and she killed him in Marius' home by drinking his blood. She then had the body disposed of nearby, and when it was found, Marius was blamed for the crime. A mob attacked his home (which was just above the sanctuary of the Pair) and burned it to the ground. Marius, angered beyond belief by the actions of Eudoxia, he dragged her by her hair down the passageways to the sanctum of the Pair and threw her into the arms of Akasha, who drank her dry and then set her aflame. Eudoxia died due to her own hubris and insecurity.
Upon learning about the objects, Eudoxia's favored fledgling became obsessed with rebirthing her dead maker. She began to stalk the streets, seeking out someone who was close in age and description to Eudoxia's original form, and she found such a person in Stephanie Ouros. Stephanie was a runaway from home, a fifteen year old meth addict who'd taken to the streets to feed her addiction and was slowly killing herself. Picked not only for her startling appearance to a long dead vampire, but also for the fact that she would not be missed, Zenobia carefully watches this girl to ensure that she is well chosen as a body for her mistress.
Abilities/Powers: Eudoxia, at the height of her life, boasted great strength and age. Whether she had any abilities was never spoken of before her death. She is incredibly intelligent and quick thinking, and she will carry these over when she is reborn.
EXAMPLES
First person: The last thing that I recall is pain. It is not an unfamiliar sensation - I mark it well in my years of existence. There was the pain of being torn from my family, when my stepmother wanted me removed. The pain of my turning, when I first became one of the damned - the bite into flesh, the feeling of my body dying. One might think the pain would end there, but no. Instead there was the pain of mistaken identity, when he did not love me for who I truly was - though I had tricked him, how could anyone say that?! No, even if I had been true, he would have run screaming from a monster. And then the pain of losing him, of holding naught but ashes in my hands. How can a monster feel pain such as this? My own skin burned, my insides alight with true flame, so much pain. That's all existence is, and all I ever sought was to visit my pain on others. How can anyone begrudge me that vindication? No one, because everyone is the same, they all do it as well, they're simply loath to admit it.
But no, my last pain was the worst. Not only physically, besides the rush of having my blood drained, her teeth sinking into my skin precisely and swiftly, but it was the fact of who was doing such a thing. I offered myself in supplication, yes, as a sacrifice, yes, but I did not think...I did not know. How could she hate me? I was her daughter! Her servant! Her worshipper! And yet she destroyed me as surely as any ruffian who entered my city. Had she not ruled her own court in such a fashion?! No, she loved that Roman, that blond imbecile who stole the Parents from their tomb, from their worship, and hid them away from all. How she could choose him over me...that is the greatest pain of all.
Third person: Each night was similar to the one before it - Eudoxia was a creature of habit, and a creature of comfort. She would rise, her children coming to her and aiding her. She would kiss them, caress them, learn that all was well. What else should it be? And they would dress her, dress her in her fine garments, long dresses and jewels and pendants. Things fit only for an empress, for that was what she was. Her small stature fell away with her posture and her carriage, the little empress with her court. They would brush her hair, apply the finest of makeup (kohl for her eyes, carmine for the lips, lotions for the skin and yet nothing could ever make her seem alive, she was too old, far too old) and then finally leave her, leave her in a study where books upon books were piled. Moved like some fine doll, made of stone, placed in a chair with a book in hand.
And there she would receive her heart's desire, her little one, one to match the little empress and make her smile and laugh. Her little Zenobia, who would come on light feet (even still Eudoxia could hear her coming, and barely still her heart for its excitement), peeking into the room like a child. Eudoxia would not notice, could not be pulled away from the pages of her book, not until Zenobia had crept up beside her and planted the most chaste of kisses on her cheek. Eudoxia would turn, see her beloved, and smile, the expression so fleeting upon her face. Smile and the book would be pushed aside for the moment, in favor of something living, something that pleased her so. Eudoxia's arms, though weighed with heavy silks and bracelets, would rise effortlessly to embrace her fledgling, her love, pull the dark haired one to her.
They would speak. Speak of their slumber, of their dreams. Speak of everything that Eudoxia already knew, could already read in Zenobia's mind, but she wanted to hear her speak. That songbird's voice, so fluid and beautiful. Speak of inane things, of politics in the city, of the weather. And finally, Eudoxia would have Zenobia read to her, pass the book from her hand into Zenobia's and wait for the girl to read. Sometimes Zenobia would sit beside her, sometimes stand; tonight she stood, just off to the side of Eudoxia, reclined in her chair. Eudoxia stared, looking off but listening, she must be listening! It was difficult to tell - a hand rose, settled a small chin in the air, as thoughts beside the dark haired, bird-boned girl reading to her of some poetry and far off places. Eudoxia was not listening, for all was as it should be, and she was taking it all for granted.
MISC
General plan: Eudoxia has no plan of action - in fact, she wasn't even corporeal until Zenobia brought her back to life. To begin with, Eudoxia will find the new world confusing and frightening and will rely heavily upon her former fledgling for guidance and protection. Once she's found her feet, however, Eudoxia will no doubt be back up to her old ways: she will seek out power, and will more than likely desire to enact revenge upon her murderer, Marius de Romanus.
