This is very confusing
An hour ago he was in handcuffs, surrounded by very noisy people. Worst of all, they took his sword, even though he was trying to cooperate. That should have been a killing offense - but this was not his age. At least they returned it to him, and Mr. Kenishi - the liason for whatever 'Big Hero 6' was, was very apologetic, kowtowing and apologizing every ten seconds. Despite the fact it was proper form, and he spoke the old form, easier for Hajime to follow, it got annoying very quickly too.

And this... base? Very strange place. Told to make himself comfortable - but not where anything useful was, he starts to wander more or less aimlessly.

"Yes... they were fortunate I identified their garb as some sort of uniform. I am not sure who their superior is, but will have to find out who I must talk to to have them punished for touching my blade. They are fortunate it was not damaged."

"I'm very glad to hear it wasn't." Amiko doesn't have to be from the early 14th century to understand You Don't Mess With the Sword. There was good old Uncle Ken-chan, if nothing else.

She'll walk him downstairs, where there will be a hot meal and pretty good tea made available.

He settles down at one edge of the table, lifting his hands and lowering his head in thanks and acknowledgement to his ancestors for their guidance.

"Now that we have food, it is the proper time. What do you know of Big Hero 6?"

"Two prominent members of... my clan served in the original incarnation some years ago. Mr. Kenishi contacted me fairly recently about the need for new membership. I do not have the talents that they did, but I have my ways to be of assistance. I have not dealt very much yet with the other recruits except for Grogg, who is a sweet creature, and very useful in a fight, but not very clever. We... should probably wait to discuss him more later."

"I shall... acknowledge your experience in these matters, rather than asking what sort of name Grogg is. It is good to have some continuity, I suppose, and good to know your clan serves the nation so well. You are samurai?"

Amiko looks slightly sheepish. Her social status is always a bit weird. She likes to think of the Yashida as still her clan, but it has certainly been a bit more complicated than that. Still.

"My standing in society and as a warrior is slightly...strange, but Lady Mariko Yashida--" she includes the brief version of an old-fashioned explanation of Lady Mariko's ridiculously fancy lineage and status "--called me daughter." It's clear however flippant she might be about some aspects of things, she still takes that very seriously. "Some time after her death, I was taken in by a ronin who was fond of my father. Most of my skills, some of them...very untraditional... I owe to her."

That's an... interesting story. "I am familiar with the Yashidas. Cousins to the emperor, a fine line. It is good to know they still hold significant status. My daimyo was friends with Lord and Lady Yashida. I am also sorry to hear of the tragic death of Lady Yashida... but if she adopted you, even in word, it is good enough for me. The word of a daimyo is not to be taken lightly."

Yeah, he wouldn't be at all happy to hear about Shingen.

She nods. "Thank you. She was a great lady. What about your family, Kazuhiro-san?"

"My mother was a very distant imperial cousin, not as close as the Yashidas. She was married to my father - a bodyguard for the daimyo of the Sagami province - as a favor from the daimyo when my father saved his life. My father was killed, along with his charge - which is why I am here, tracking his killer."

"Your father and daimyo were killed by time travelers?"

"Yes. Or... a time traveler. He hired bandits to do much of his work, but all witnesses said he had strange weapons that breathed fire and lightning. Most were too terrified to tell me anything else, and all other details conflicted... but on the fire and lightning, they were all the same. He stole a powerful magical artifact that belonged to the daimyo, and left everything else behind for the bandits."

"...I see." She pauses over her meal for a moment. "We'll do what we can, but it will probably take a long time to track him down. Time travellers aren't very easy to get a hold of."

"Yes, but if it was going to be easy, I do not think I would have needed 700 years of training. I will find him and avenge my father. Until then, I am at the disposal of my nation."

Amiko can't argue with that. She nods.

...and now her tea isn't quite as hot as she prefers it. She lifts the cup, and her hands pour the heat into it, letting just a touch of steam rise a little again.

"How... how did you do that?"

"Oh. Please excuse me for doing it when it wouldn't make sense to you. It's just a natural gift of mine. Some people have them nowadays. Mutations. They run in families, but not uniformly. I can use heat a little. Lady Mariko's cousin, the samurai who helped found this team, can fly through the sky and wield flames. It probably sounds strange, but it is not entirely uncommon nowadays."

"Inasmuch as anyone could tell you what 700 years feels like, it did not feel like 700 years. After a time, when every day begins and ends the same way, you lose track of the days. At almost any time past the first few months, when I was always so tired and sore and did everything wrong - I do not think I could have told you how long I had been there. When I saw my reflection in the pool every morning after climbing down the mountain to fetch the only water my masters would drink - I saw... well, mostly the face I have now. So perhaps I simply accepted it had only been a few years." he pauses.

"I'm sure that losing track of 700 years sounds as odd to you as a man who flies and is on fire but does not burn does to me."

[info]hotlittlehands

She listens and nods. "I think I understand as much as anyone can. One has to get used to many strange things around here. And perhaps they kept you so long because you would have a better chance of tracking your target here than in previous centuries."

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]get_medieval

"That is very possible. I do not claim to know their minds or methods, but I believe that they both prepared me as best they could, and put me in the right place and time that I will have the chance to avenge my father and return what was stolen to the proper family."

He pauses a little to drink a bit more tea and eat a few bites - after 700 years of hard living, this was an unusual paradise.
"So, obviously much has changed. Can you tell me some of the things you think would be most important that I know?"

Ah yes, those. Well...

"I was nearly, how do you say, run over a few times. That is part of what caused the commotion that led to calling the police. Some sort of powered wagons, yes?"
