This is very confusing
An hour ago he was in handcuffs, surrounded by very noisy people. Worst of all, they took his sword, even though he was trying to cooperate. That should have been a killing offense - but this was not his age. At least they returned it to him, and Mr. Kenishi - the liason for whatever 'Big Hero 6' was, was very apologetic, kowtowing and apologizing every ten seconds. Despite the fact it was proper form, and he spoke the old form, easier for Hajime to follow, it got annoying very quickly too.

And this... base? Very strange place. Told to make himself comfortable - but not where anything useful was, he starts to wander more or less aimlessly.

"If you happened to be hungry," Amiko says as she comes into the hallway, "There is very good food available downstairs."
She's Heard a little, so she does her best, linguistically, to say it as old-fashioned as she ever learned possible, to confuse him less, but there's only so much a girl can do when her old-fashioned education was interrupted so many times, and she'd majored in business, not classical literature.

Cute boy. Too young for her, of course.... well... by certain definitions, anyway.

He tilts his head to the side, regarding her for several moments. Then he nods once.
"Ahh... food. Yes, thank you." he replies with a shallow bow. "I should wash first. Where is the bathhouse, please?"

"For washing your hands and face, or the absolute essentials of nature, there is the fourth door on the left. For actually bathing, you may have to wait until they've arranged your accomodations."

"The bathhouse..." he blinks, looking where she gestures. "For bathing... they do not have it prepared for guests?" he finally manages.

What kind of hosts were these people? Expecting someone to come to the table unclean? Its been a long trip.

"The closest bathhouse I know of is fifteen blocks from here, and it costs a fortune. If your hands and face just isn't enough, and you really need to wash up now, you can use the bath in my suite. It's upstairs."

Fifteen blocks? A fortune... for a bath?

He's even more sure this is not a nice place at all.

"Indeed... ahh, but where are my manners? I am Kazuhiro Hajime. I should greet my... hostess? Greeter?... before seeing to my own needs."

She bows. "Amiko Kobayashi. I believe they intend us to become colleagues."

"Indeed... but... I am afraid there is much that is unfamiliar. But this is... lunch? Dinner?... conversation to have over a meal. I should wash.... my... hands.. anyway. Fourth door on the left, you said?"

"Yes. The metal thing on the left side of the sink controls the hot water, and the one on the right controls the cold water."

"Ahhh, like pump handles?" he asks, heading for the door. At first, he gets blasted with hot water when he turns it too hard, following his own analogy - but given the result, and the reasoning, he figures it out after that, washing his hands /very/ thoroughly, washing his face, then washing his hands again. It will have to do.

"Thank you."

"You're welcome." And she'll show him the way downstairs. "Mr. Kenishi didn't give much detail. How long have you been here, if you don't mind my asking?"

"I'm very glad to hear it wasn't." Amiko doesn't have to be from the early 14th century to understand You Don't Mess With the Sword. There was good old Uncle Ken-chan, if nothing else.

She'll walk him downstairs, where there will be a hot meal and pretty good tea made available.

He settles down at one edge of the table, lifting his hands and lowering his head in thanks and acknowledgement to his ancestors for their guidance.

"Now that we have food, it is the proper time. What do you know of Big Hero 6?"

"Two prominent members of... my clan served in the original incarnation some years ago. Mr. Kenishi contacted me fairly recently about the need for new membership. I do not have the talents that they did, but I have my ways to be of assistance. I have not dealt very much yet with the other recruits except for Grogg, who is a sweet creature, and very useful in a fight, but not very clever. We... should probably wait to discuss him more later."

"I shall... acknowledge your experience in these matters, rather than asking what sort of name Grogg is. It is good to have some continuity, I suppose, and good to know your clan serves the nation so well. You are samurai?"

Amiko looks slightly sheepish. Her social status is always a bit weird. She likes to think of the Yashida as still her clan, but it has certainly been a bit more complicated than that. Still.

"My standing in society and as a warrior is slightly...strange, but Lady Mariko Yashida--" she includes the brief version of an old-fashioned explanation of Lady Mariko's ridiculously fancy lineage and status "--called me daughter." It's clear however flippant she might be about some aspects of things, she still takes that very seriously. "Some time after her death, I was taken in by a ronin who was fond of my father. Most of my skills, some of them...very untraditional... I owe to her."

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

That's an... interesting story. "I am familiar with the Yashidas. Cousins to the emperor, a fine line. It is good to know they still hold significant status. My daimyo was friends with Lord and Lady Yashida. I am also sorry to hear of the tragic death of Lady Yashida... but if she adopted you, even in word, it is good enough for me. The word of a daimyo is not to be taken lightly."

Yeah, he wouldn't be at all happy to hear about Shingen.

"My mother was a very distant imperial cousin, not as close as the Yashidas. She was married to my father - a bodyguard for the daimyo of the Sagami province - as a favor from the daimyo when my father saved his life. My father was killed, along with his charge - which is why I am here, tracking his killer."
