Val Colby,  Nonprofit Collaboration Coordinator for Lexcorp, looked over some figures. He didn't like them. At all.

Nothing for it but to talk to Viv.  Actually, there were many alternatives, but Val's solution was usually to talk to Viv.  He walked down the hall and knocked on the door to his cousin's office.

Vivian Luthor worked hard and played hard - in every sense of the word. She glanced up from the phone call she was on and waved him in through the glass doors.

"...no, I dont care, get it done." And she hung up sitting back in the plush chair.

"You have your worried face on...should I cancel my weekend plans?"

"Might not come to that, but look at this list." He hands her a bunch of statistical information.

"The numbers on the left denote the success of community service projects sponsored by Lexcorp in the last year. To the right of each is a similar project backed by Waynetech, Queen Industries, or a similar competitor. You'll note the numbers on the right are much better than the numbers on the left. And we're none of us stupid enough to think for a moment that charity is easier in Gotham or Star than Metropolis."

Val frowns.
"At first I thought I was doing something wrong and should talk to Uncle Lex about putting someone else in the job, but then I looked further..."

She looked over the numbers for a long minute before putting the paper down.

"Val...Do you know *why* Waynetech and Queen Industries donate so much more then LuthorCorp..? It's because their CEO's keep driving their half million dollar cars into city fountains and destroying private and public property because they like the bang. They donate so much money because it's the only way Bruce Wayne and Oliver Queen stay out of jail. I think I can safely say that at least in this, Luthor corp has absolutely no interest in competing with either Waynetech or Queen Industries."

She regarded her cousin for a long moment. "You have a big heart Val...but if we don't keep LuthorCorp over the black line, how many people lose jobs? Lose health insurance? Lose the ability to send their kids to school? They're called *donations*, they're voluentary...And I think quite generous."

"No, no Viv, I don't need to donate more money. I need to find out why I'm not getting enough results with my current budget! Because I researched these projects. Even with less donation budget, I should have been able to get similar actual results because I planned it just right. But you see..." He hands her another page. "This is the list of accident reports from each othe charities. Sudden traffic jams at fundraises we organized. Freak electrical failures in equipment we donated. Stuff that isn't happening anywhere else."
He scowls.
"...I think someone's screwing with me, Viv. I think someone is sabotaging my charities, and only them, because they're working with us."

"Screwing with you personally..?" No one said Luthors wern't egocentric...and he was enough of a Luthor to fit that bill.

"Who would do such a thing? What purpose would it solve to do it like this, other then to just drive you to distraction?"

"Screwing with me as the Nonprofit Coordinator. The success of a corporation's charitable efforts has a direct effect on the company's local and international reputation." As he's told her half a dozen times when she seemed to be getting the impression that Val was wasting his talents on his bleeding-heart hobby. "It could be some kind of status ploy, less likely to get them caught because it sounds so ridiculous."

"Val..it's a reach..." She sat back, regarding him.

"...But not so far fetched it isn't worth looking into." Or implementing themselves, it was a brilliant, if painfully long term way to undermine a company's efforts. "Do you have any ideas who might be behind it all?"

His face starts to fall, then perk up when Viv acknowledges his point and seems to be taking it seriously. He knew he could trust her to understand him. He always does, in the end.

"I can't say for sure at this point. It has to be someone with the resources to hire superhumans to manufacture these accidents and keep them quiet about it."

"There's a hell of a lot more people with enough money to acomplish that then there are people with the kind of powers that can do this..if they can be bought once, they can be bought twice. Find them, and you'll find whose really behind this."

She stood up, moving over to the window to look down over the city. "Val...I want you to keep some perspective in this."

He steps over until he's just behind and to the side of her. "I'll try, I guess," he grumbles, waiting for her to explain.

"You know i'll root out any enimy, whatever form they take. But I wont let pride or the desire to hunt down the bastards hurt you OR the business. Until we can find out who is doing this and why, consider altering the delivery method of these funds. Find ways they can't interfere...and while you do that..." She turned to look at him, "We'll set up the event of the year. They couldn't *not* strike, and this time....this time we'll be read."

Her eyes were cold as ice as she looked over her shoulder at her father's closed doors at the end of the hall way before moving back around to her chair.

Val smiles. "Right. I'm on it."
