Challenge Information!

Basic Information: The challenges for [info]foodcritic will be posted monthly. On the first day of the challenge, you will be given a single word. This word will be the theme for the challenge and must be incorporated into your recipe in some way. The word can be anything from a flavor to an emotion. The representation of the word does not have to be completely literal if it is not a flavor, but it must be able to be easily translated without much explanation. If the word is a flavor or a color, the submission must obviously include it literally. During the first three weeks, you will need to post your submission using the Challenge Submission Form below. This will be posted as a comment to the screened challenge announcement. You must follow the directions exactly and at least 3 photo of your food are mandatory. During the fourth week of the challenge, all submissions will be closed. On the first day of the fourth week, the voting post will be put up and the members of the community will vote on the winner.

Along with the theme will be the food type. Anything can be included in this. Pasta, cupcakes, cookies, vegetarian dinners, casserole, etc. Anything. If the challenge happens to be "chili cupcake", we expect you to make it work. You do not have to create your own recipe from complete scratch, but if you find one online we expect the link to the recipe to be made available in your submission and for your recipe to differ at least a little. Do not make exactly the same thing someone else made. That's stealing and the point of the challenge is to be creative!

Voting: Voting is based on appearance, execution, how the challenge theme is translated through the recipe and the overall composition of the recipe. You do not have to make the recipe yourself but if you do and love it, we'd love to know. You may vote for yourself, unless otherwise instructed.

Winning: The person whose recipe has the most votes will be featured on the side bar for the next entire month. The previous challenge's winner gets to vote twice on the next month's submissions. They can use this x2 on a single applicant's submission or distribute it between their two favorites. As an added bonus, they will also be allowed to choose the next month's theme. To keep this organized, in the submissions copy & paste post will be a question asking what the next theme should be. If you win the challenge, your theme will be chosen and you will not be able to participate (other than voting). The votes do not carry over, so if you win in January and forget to vote twice in February, you will still only be able to vote one time in March.

Note: The skill level is based on this rating scale:

Novice - Beginners. Anyone could make this, it's very simple.
Intermediate - Requires previous cooking or baking experience. A little bit more difficult than novice.
Advanced - Much harder than novice. Difficult steps taken in creating the recipe, not something a novice could do well the first (or second or third...) time.

Like the recipes, you may add or subtract ingredients or steps involved. This is just the base.

Review a Restaurant [14 Apr 2010|01:02am]

Post a Restaurant Review!

Rules for restaurant reviews: Place everything under a cut. Title the cut with "Restaurant Review: Name of Restaurant". Be as informative as you can and begin all reviews with a photo of the outside of the restaurant you're reviewing. It doesn't have to be a picture you took, it can be from the internet. The 'location' portion doesn't have to be a specific address. Just the city and state will do!

Rating Scale: You may add half points.

1 Star - Bad food, bad service, bad restaurant.
2 Stars - Mediocre food and service, nothing to brag about.
3 Stars - Decent food and service. Not complaining but not incredible.
4 Stars - Amazing restaurant! A new favorite.

Post a Recipe [14 Apr 2010|12:07am]

Post a Recipe!

Rules for recipes: Fill out the recipe application in its entirety. Pictures are not mandatory but are extremely recommended. Even a low quality picture is better than no picture. Include all measurements and ingredients used. Do not forget the basics: temperatures, draining techniques, length of time, etc. Be as precise as possible and try not to leave anything out! Keep all posts underneath a cut. Title the cut with "Recipe: The Name Of Your Recipe". Please make sure the recipe name has at least one of the ingredients in it so we can easily catalog it in our recipe box!

Note: You may add more ingredients and steps. The numbers in the application are just a random preset amount. Feel free to eliminate some if you need to. They're only there to keep you organized.
