CHARACTER INFO: PADMA PATIL.

OOC INFORMATION

Name: JJ
Age: 21.
Email:
IM: faeriexlights.
Experience: See [info]faeriexlights!

IC INFORMATION

Full Name: Padma Karisma Patil.
Age/Birthdate: 17.
Year/House: Ravenclaw 7th.

Blood Status: While the Patils are no Malfoys in terms of blood purity, they're certainly not a family to be scorned - respected in India for their old lineage and mostly-unmuddled blood, the Patils have come to be associated with the more elite Wizarding families of England.
Sexual Orientation: Quite straight, thank you!
Location: ??? LINDSEY LINDSEY ???
Affiliation: Firmly alongside Harry Potter, the DA, and anyone else who isn't allied with the noseless madman hellbent on destroying the foundations of the Wizarding world.

Appearance: Having been proclaimed one of the prettiest girls of their year by one Dean Thomas, Padma Patil certainly has no trouble attracting boys. With her exotically Indian features, large dark brown eyes, and long black hair, Padma doesn't have to do much to stand out in a crowd - a smile and a wink can usually do the trick, despite her exceedingly petite stature. While Padma only stands at a dimunitive 5'0'', her curvaceous figure makes up for it. Unlike her twin sister, who revels in donning make up and ostentatious ornamentation, Padma errs on the plainer side of the dressing spectrum: she can often be found wearing her hair in a simple braid, with her face absent of any make up other than a bit of mascara. Where Parvati likes bright colours, Padma likes pastels: also a fan of the colour pink, she owns quite a few accessories in the paler hues of the colour. Overall, Padma looks a great deal like her sister - they are twins, after all - but a more toned-down version: her preferred dress style is understated, her hair is even moreso, and yet it is this very fact that draws everyone's eyes to her natural beauty.

Desired PB: Peeya whatsherface.

Personality: Parvati's Sister, the Other Twin, Ravenclaw Patil: these titles are all ones that Padma has heard numerous times during the course of her relatively short life. With a sister as vivacious as one Parvati Patil, Padma has had to strive very had to define herself as an individual, but it's a job she's executed rather successfully. While she'll always be known as the counterpart to her Gryffindor sister, Padma's calmer demeanor and intellectual capabilities clearly define her as her own person.

Although the twins look exactly alike, a five-minute conversation could very easily highlight the vast differences between the two sisters. Where Parvati is outgoing and flirtatious, Padma is far more reserved, quieter, and simply content to converse with the opposite sex in a manner that isn't romantic in any sense of the word. Having been sorted into Ravenclaw, it comes as no surprise that Padma is the Pragmatic Sister: always willing to think before she acts, to look before she leaps, she hardly ever finds herself in a situation where she has no idea what to do. A fairly logical sort of person, Padma much prefers to analyze things before making any sort of decision; however, while this is a positive trait in most cases, her constant hesitance also prevents her from hardly ever doing anything remotely risky, and thus, anything fun in the adrenaline-pumping sense.

An avid fan of organisation, Padma tends to extend her desire for order to every aspect of her life - yes, she's the type of person who makes To-Do Lists every morning, and actively carries out everything she plans to do. Padma thrives on routine and schedules, and could quite possibly pull out a record detailing exactly what she did at any given time of any given year if requested to do so. Although she is inherently smart, Padma often studies far more than she truly needs to for exams, simply because she has an innate desire to succeed. She likes doing well and getting good grades, and has no qualms about spending hours in the library to help her do so. Ever the meticulous student, Padma is easily one of the top students in her year, a fact which coincides with her newly-earned and fully deserved title as Head Girl.

Unlike her sister, who seems to thrive on both social interaction and the party scene in general, Padma much prefers quieter activities: she can easily be described as a mother figure, and is the sort of girl who adores baking, knitting, and fixing a cup of tea for anyone she thinks is in dire need of some stress relief. Always a willing listener, Padma is often approached by others for her ability to give resound advice, a talent which stems from her pragmatic and diplomatic personality. However, while she's perfectly willing to dole out tips for any aspect of life involving education, family issues, and the like, the subject of dating and romance is one that unerringly causes her to falter. If someone needs romantic advice, Padma would strongly urge them to see her sister, instead.

This is primarily due to the fact that while Padma is undoubtedly one of the prettiest girls in her year, she isn't one that actively uses said attractiveness to her advantage. Very uninterested by the idea of dating, Padma believes that, right now, her education is far more important than any relationship with a boy. However, this isn't to say that Padma is completely uninterested in the male sex as a whole: being a girl, and a teenage one at that, she's as likely as the next to giggle over fit actors in magazines or harbor silly, harmless crushes (that she'll keep to herself, thank you!) on the crooning hearthrobs often featured on Celestina Warbeck's Witching Hour. To sum it up, as long as a boy isn't near enough to pose actual complications, Padma is perfectly willing to goggle at just how handsome they are - but if you'd like to do so, do let her know in advance so she can pencil that sort of activity into her very busy schedule. The prospect of actually dating a boy, especially one at Hogwarts, is a notion that makes Padma rather nervous: after all, love is so time-consuming, and the blokes at school are hardly mature enough to handle such an emotion properly! She'd much rather avoid any and all such complications, if you please. Occasional flirting is fine, but anything more will send Padma running at lightspeed in the opposite direction.

Ironically, despite Padma's tendency to shirk away from the male sex, she is a romantic at heart: it's simply that she doesn't believe it's the right time for her to date. Instead, she indulges her romantic whims by reading old romance novels - her collection of books in that particular genre is quite extensive. She's rather sceptical that love could actually be anything like it is in the storybooks she so fancies, and would thus much rather avoid any commitment.

Nevertheless, this isn't to say that Padma doesn't have a fun side - after all, she is related to Parvati Patil! While her social life isn't comprised entirely of shopping sprees and spa days, Padma is still a girl, and is quite willing to indulge herself when she has the time. With a shoe collection more extensive than the rest of her family's combined, it's easy to see that Padma does like to shop as much as anyone else. She likes wearing pretty things, buying pretty things, and while she doesn't run up a bill as high as her sister's - or hell, even her brother's - she certainly isn't letting that Wizarding credit card gather dust in her drawer.

Far from an unsociable bookworm, Padma is a fan of parties, as long as they aren't comprised entirely of drunken despots and tasteless music. While she herself doesn't drink alcohol (she's the biggest lightweight you'll ever meet!), Padma doesn't mind if others do so in her presence, as long as their behaviour doesn't cross the line into completely crass. A huge fan of dancing, she can usually be found on the dance floor at any gathering, and will quite willingly stay there the whole night if given the opportunity.

Although she often reprimands her sister for her gossipy nature, Padma herself is quite interested in knowing the latest news about those around her. She's always willing to listen to a juicy secret - that is, as long as it isn't the sort of thing that would damage a person's reputation! While she sometimes feels ashamed about her own occasional tendency to spread rumours, she simply can't help herself. She has an innately mischievous nature, although she displays it in a rather subtle manner, choosing to best those around her with her dry wit and intellectual jokes. Her sense of humour is far from that found in the brash house of Gryffindor - after all, Padma is clever, never obnoxious.

However, this isn't to say that Padma wasn't sorted into Gryffindor for her lack of courage or ability to be outspoken, but simply because she absolutely loathes the idea of fighting. Incredibly averse to any sort of conflict, Padma is often the mediator in such situations, since one of her main desires is to simply have everyone get along. She's rather indecisive herself, and hardly ever makes rash decisions which could anger anyone around her - not a fan of speaking up for her own beliefs, Padma would much rather others do so for her. However, if one of her fundamental beliefs comes into question, one that's truly important, Padma will attempt to take a stand; such was the case with her joining the DA.

Far from a judgmental sort, Padma very rarely criticises anyone for their actions, a trait that stems fro her desire to avoid conflict. At the most, she will very lightly reprimand someone if she thinks they're behaving inappropriately, but nevertheless, she's commonly known as the Prefect (and now, Head Girl), who hardly ever takes points from anyone, no matter what their offense. She dislikes the idea of people disliking her, and would rather avoid such a situation if at all possible.

In accordance with her aversion to conflict, Padma is a rather calm person; she has the ability to remain unaffected by insults made at her person, and will often bite back not with an obvious insult, but with a remark that will undoubtedly make her opponent feel rather abashed. However, if her temper is sparked, an event which takes a great deal of aggravation and thus very rarely occurs, Padma will be just as fiery as the rest of the Patil family. This sort of thing primarily only occurs when someone threatens those she cares about; ironically, while she's the most sensitive about her sister, it is simultaneously true that her sister is most often the one to make Padma angry.

Padma's primarily goal is to join the Ministry in some diplomatic position when she completes her final year at Hogwarts. However, the current situation has thrown this dream into sharp relief: it is clear to her that the Ministry is corrupt, but her diplomatic nature doesn't truly know how to handle the situation. Simply put, Padma just doesn't know what to believe anymore.

Three Things an Acquaintance Would Know About Your Character:
a) Padma has a twin sister named Parvati, of course!
b) She's never seen outside of class holding less than three textbooks. No, it doesn't matter if it's the weekend.
c) She never seems to wear the same shoes two days in a row. Sometimes, it seems like she must own hundreds.

Two Things Close Friends Would Know About Your Character:
a) She loves reading trashy, cheap gossip magazines. Absolutely nothing can get between her and her Witch Weekly.
b) Her nails are always perfectly manicured. She hates having the nail lacquer chip and always carries a bottle of her current colour along with her for emergency touch ups.

One Deep, Dark Secret:
a) She once kissed a boy that Parvati liked because they'd gotten into a huge fight. She's never told anyone, and she threatened him with castration if he ever dared to, too.

History: Padma Patil comes from a fairly old Pureblood family, although her lineage can't be traced nearly as far back as that of the more notorious families, such as the Malfoys. Despite their pure blood and respectable standing, the Patils are not all that intimate with prestigious Pureblood families such as the Malfoys or Parkinsons, namely due to their blatantly neutral stand on the Dark Lord. However, this does not mean that the Patils are looked down upon by the others, and Padma was acquainted with students such as Pansy, Draco, and Theodore since before attending Hogwarts.

Padma, when not at Hogwarts, lives with her mother Nikita and father Bankim in a select wizarding area fairly close to London. Their house, not a mansion by any means, is nevertheless spacious and welcoming. She does not have to share a room with her sister Padma, nor is Padma ever left wanting for any materialistic object. Her parents are fairly well off and can thus provide their daughters with everything they may need - resulting in Padma often having some of the best, most expensive robes money can buy (not that she particularly cares for that sort of thing, of course!).

Padma and Parvati were born on August 18th, 1980. Since Nikita and Bankim had not wanted to have any prior knowledge about their children, they were rather surprised (happily, of course) when the twin girls were born. They were determined not to fall into the common trap of treating their daughters the same, and would often talk to Padma and Parvati separately to build up a sense of individuality in both. This 'experiment' was hugely successful, as Padma and Parvati became two very different people who were nevertheless quite close, sharing that special bond that only twins have.

Nikita and Bankim were loving parents who constantly doted on their daughters, and their love did not wane in the slightest when Padma's younger brother, Kevin, was born. The Patils endeavoured to teach their children both educational and moral lessons throughout their childhood, continuously trying to instill the right values in all three.

When the girls were sent off to Hogwarts, neither Nikita nor Bankim were surprised at the twins being placed in different Houses. Padma, following in the footsteps of her once-studious father, was placed in Ravenclaw. Padma herself was rather upset over being separated from her sister, with whom she’d always been close, although she eventually found her niche in Ravenclaw, making several friends and rising to the status of Prefect in her fifth year.

Most of Padma's years at Hogwarts weren't all that eventful - yes, there was that whole ordeal with Harry and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry and that Chamber, Harry and -- well. None of it really concerned her, did it? It was interesting gossip, of course, but Padma wasn't one who desired to live vicariously through Harry Potter; after all, being the ambitious Ravenclaw she was, Padma was far more focused on getting Os on her OWLs. A severe wrench in her plans came in the form of her parents, however, who withdrew the girls from school a few weeks early during their sixth year and, more significantly, very nearly insisted on keeping their daughters at home for their seventh year. However, through joint effort, Padma and Parvati were able to convince their parents to allow them back to Hogwarts.

Padma has since realised that while her grades are indeed a top priority, they’re not all that matters now in this chaotic world – friends and family are always more important. She's come to worry about the fates of those around her, her less pureblooded friends and even that Harry Potter and Hermione Granger - with the events of the summer, she can't help but wonder what misfortune will befall them next. With her recent appointment as Head Girl, she now feels additional responsibility to take care of those around her: after all, if she, the top female student in the school, doesn’t, well…who will?

First-Person Sample:
Oh, aren't these just the oddest little devices! Of course, that's certainly not to say they're odd in a negative sense - I'm sure they'll come very much in handy as the school year progresses. After all, the advert did refer to these journals as Certified Study Aids, didn't it? A forum in which we can converse with our fellow students about the school's curriculum? Well! I'll be honest in saying that I'll be very surprised if the entirety of Hogwarts doesn't show a marked improvement in all of their classes. We're allowed to discuss things on this network! Homework ideas, theories, essay topics! It's all very exciting, if you ask me - a whole new forum of communication! I feel as though I'm living history in the making.

I mean, here I am, sitting here writing, and you can all very clearly see the chicken scratch that is my handwriting, and you can even respond and oh, I'm just in complete awe. As Head Girl of Hogwarts for the year, I'd just very much like you lot to know that if you ever need anything, anything at all, honestly, you can simply leave me a message here! I would really love to hear everything each and every one of you has to say.

Third-Person Sample: HERE is a link to a Draco/Pansy log. I played Draco. Shocking, I know.
