Character Name: Simon Davis
Character LJ (if applicable): exploding_snaps
Physical description (face, build, weight): dark-blonde hair, blue eyes, tall, lean build
Age: 19
Birthday: September 19
PB: (If using one.): Dan Cameron
Abilities: With a snap of his fingers Simon can create explosions that seem to happen out of thin air. He usually uses smaller ones to knock people off balance, move some things, break locks, and ones under his feet to help him jump higher or run faster. The bigger ones take more of his energy and can be draining if he does enough of them. The upper end of the explosion sizes he can make can take out a wall. His best subjects in school were physics and math, the latter of which led him to pick up programming that eventually got him a position at the embassy. Weaknesses and flaws: Simon is legally deaf and has hearing aids in both ears to even allow him to hear enough to carry on a conversation. He can fight without them just fine but in the chaos of a fight he needs to rely on his eyes to figure out what’s going on, and cries for help usually don’t reach him. Like everyone else, Simon is affected by the explosions he creates if he is within the blast radius. Unlike what most people assume of him, he isn’t fluent with sign language but knows enough to communicate a bit. Instead he finds he often has to ask people to repeat themselves or write things down, which frustrates him. Simon is also rather bitter, although time at Xavier’s and in Genosha have lessened this, and isn’t too caught up with following rules at times. Character location/Home: New York and Genoshan Embassy Alignment (villain, hero etc): He doesn’t consider himself either Relatives (living/dead?): Katherine Davis (mother/living), Jonathan Davis (father/living but estranged)
Backstory: His hearing impairment wasn’t caught until he’d already gone to elementary and teachers complained about his lack of focus, and once diagnosed the doctors weren’t sure if he’d been like this from birth or it had developed later and gotten worse. Either way it resulted in the young Simon needing hearing aids, which didn’t entirely solve the problem and he was often left out and teased for it. Angry that life had been unfair to him, once he got a bit older he ended up tagging along with a local gang. He’d kept the recent manifestation of his powers under wraps, he felt that he already was freakish enough, but often used them to break into places and was considered an asset to the gang. Briefly dabbling in drugs and trying to drown his sorrows for a time did nothing to make him feel better about always being different, although he found using his power destructively (lots of buildings scheduled to be teared down in the neighbourhood seem to fall rather early) to help him a litte. Not a very close family to begin with, Simon’s deafness had already divided them and when they discovered he was a mutant along with his recent activites it was the last straw and he found himself at Xavier’s. While he didn’t agree with the whole ‘let’s all get along’ aspect of mutant-human relations, he found himself feeling a little better surrounded by people who knew, at least in part, what it was like to stand out. Once done his education there, and not really seeing a place for himself to stay at Xavier’s, Simon ran off to Genosha to see if it’d be what he was looking for. Finally finding somewhere where he didn’t feel the need to constantly hide or blend in, he stayed until the opportunity to work at the embassy in New York came up. A little homesick and eager to see how everything was since his departure, Simon accepts. Of course there was a little bit of rubbing it in how Genosha was not as terrible as some at Xavier’s made it out to be that influenced his decision. How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?: He’s come back to New York after some time in Genosha and is eager to catch up to people and start work What are you planning to do with this character? Embassy work, catch up with old friends, control his temper a bit What do you want to see happen with this character? now that he’s back in NY, he automatically feels the need to hide again which makes him even more bitter, but I’d like to see him be happy with who he is and try and hide less
