Application for Dark Blessings

PLAYER
Name: Erica

Age: 24

AIM: UntamedDoll
Desired PB: Holliday Granger

CHARACTER
Full name: Eugenia Salazar (Changed to simply Eugenie later on)

Age/DOB: Appears 23 years old but is actually over 500.

Race: Vampire

Occupation: Reviewer for productions of the performing arts.

Birthplace: Spain, during the year 1496

Personality: Upon first meeting Eugenie, a mortal or vampire will see her as quiet. She tries not to attract attention to herself and is happy to stay on the outskirts of things, minding her own business and not questioning others. She could be seen as shy, not often being the first to speak, however when she does voice her opinion it is carefully thought out and the complete truth. If given the chance to be around Eugenie long enough, her personality slowly begins to show. Those who know her best, none of which are alive during the current day (besides Armand, Eleni and possibly Lestat, for they saw Eugenie when she was slightly revealing her personality during her days at the Theatre), know Eugenie to be a quick woman who is fond of laughing and singing. She is happy, forgiving, and dislikes negativity. She is quite the sweetheart who will give her heart fully to those she trusts and rarely is made to be angry. The only time she might show a more negative characteristic is when it came to her brother and children, both of which are dead. She would manipulate whomever she needed in order to keep them safe, happy, and have them get whatever they wanted. For them, she would lie, steal, or kill. Although, she had never done so much as verbally protect them, the determination for their happiness at whatever cost was always there.

Eugenie is very intelligent and enjoys learning about the different cities and cultures she visits. Aside from this, she devours any information about the performing arts. Despite having a beautiful singing voice, she prefers being knowledgeable about the theatrical world; it's concepts and colorful layers. She was tall for a woman during the 15th century and is seen as tall now at 5'10. Her gray-blue eyes do not give away her emotions aside from seeming to brighten when she is happy or in love. Her hair is long, thick, and filled with blond waves. At times she wears it long and loose, other days she will cut it short, and if it's a matter of being comfortable a ponytail will do while a bun works when she goes to see productions. She doesn't necessarily follow the changing fashions of the present day but will wear whatever she finds in stores when it's necessary to buy more clothing. When she hunts, she wears simple clothes of jeans, slip on shoes, and a bland shirt. But if she is to socialize amongst mortals or vampires she will try to look more professional with dress pants, dresses, or nice tops.

Biography:
Eugenia Salazar was born the fourth child of a good family in Toledo, Spain on June 30, 1496. Almost immediately she was placed under the protective eye of her eldest brother, Feliciano, whom she idolized while growing up. Eugenia never had a close relationship with her other two older siblings although she doted after her two younger brothers. While young, if she was angry or sad she typically would not be appeased until her brother Feliciano approached her. Neither nurse, nor her parents were capable of calming her. Through her brother she found her best friend and despite their family presuming he was of a simple and devilish mind, she knew better.

She was a happy child who was quick and intelligent. She was quiet and studious, seen as shy by most, but her bubbling personality would be revealed when around her brother. As they grew older Feliciano began to cause trouble for the family and Eugenia would defend him if possible. For a time it took her parents by surprise since she was, at most times, very quiet. They believed her many times for whatever excuse she created to protect her brother because it was simply unheard of for her to speak up like she did. She also had a way with words and could easily manipulate. But after a time, her parents began to further give up on Feliciano and ignore her pleas.

As Eugenia matured she began to fall in love… with her brother. Discovering he felt the same way for her was one of the most bittersweet moments she ever experienced: happy he loved her, upset that they could not do anything about it. Eugenia knew it would be a sin to love her brother and yet the temptation stood. The likelihood of Eugenia allowing herself to fully act on her desires was squished when her family married her off to a Spanish Lord, Isandro Alcaçar. It was a quick affair, as they did not want to wait any longer. Feliciano had been slowly destroying the family name so her parents were worried it would cause trouble in finding her a suitor. Not only that, but Eugenia was already seventeen and soon could be seen as aged. After the wedding she left her family home to live with her husband whom she hardly knew. Traveling back and forth from her husband’s estate to court at first she found married life to be an incredible bore. Often she would visit with Feliciano, always enjoying his presence and the familiarity of his love, but despite her initial worries of not loving her husband, she developed deep feelings for Isandro and distanced herself from Feliciano. He was now at court after having further destroyed the family name due to his antics and while Eugenia enjoyed his company, she became more wrapped up in married life. By the time she was 19, two years after her marriage, she had her first child. Her daughter was christened with the name Isabella, after the Queen, and quickly Eugenia learned that she was capable of more love than she had ever previously experienced for Isandro or even Feliciano. She adored her daughter and was a dutiful mother who happily tended to her child and refused a nurses aid. Her little daughter had the similar features as Eugenia and seemed incredibly intelligent and well ahead of other infants her age, which Eugenia relished in. She had more hopes and dreams for this infant than she had ever had for herself and was happy to focus her life on her child.

At 22 Eugenia was pregnant again. At first she was thrilled and excited to have another child. She was so in love with her daughter that it seemed like a blessing to have the opportunity to bring another child into the world. However, her health quickly began to deteriorate and she had to give up the care of Isabella to a nurse as the pregnancy had a lengthy list of complications. Nearing her sixth month of pregnancy, Feliciano went missing. Isandro kept the news from Eugenia as long as he could manage, worried that it would cause her to become even more ill, but the gossip of Feliciano’s disappearance was spreading like wild fire amongst the servants and Isandro broke down and told his wife the news before she heard it from someone else. Already she had suspected something was wrong because she had been requesting Feliciano’s presence for some weeks while she was ill and had heard nothing. As was predicted by Isandro the news caused a new wave of illness for the pregnant Eugenia and often in a fever she would rave that she felt Feliciano near her. Many times she thought she saw his ghost sitting beside her bed and was convinced that he had been killed.

Somehow completing the full length of her pregnancy although very often coming near death, Eugenia birthed a son whom she named after her missing brother. The stress from her brother’s disappearance and the added destruction of her heath due to the pregnancy left Eugenia incredibly weak. At first she was too weak to do anything other than remain in bed, only occasionally did she have enough strength to read or see her children.

Nearly a year passes and Eugenia remained very weak and her brother still had not resurfaced. By this point in time the rest of the court had accepted his likely death. To Eugenia’s joy, her infant son reminds her of her brother more and more each day and gradually she began to regain strength so that she could continue raising her daughter and son. Her attitude was destroyed from the complications of the previous year but it was her children that caused her to get out of bed and with determination gain enough strength to be a functioning individual again.

Unbeknownst to Eugenia, Feliciano was still alive. While raging with fever during her pregnancy, Eugenia was much more knowledgeable to what was going on around her than she or anyone else realized. Feliciano had sat beside Eugenia often through out her pregnancy but she had been too ill to really know that he was there. He waited in the shadows until Eugenia was healthier and then emerged.

Her husband was at court and Eugenia had remained at the family home, still not quite strong enough to make the journey and happy to be with her children. Feliciano approached her then, having gotten into the room somehow beyond Eugenia's knowledge. At first, she thought he was a ghost, and then realized he was as solid as she. However, a great change had taken over her brother. He was paler, his skin cold and hard, even his face seemed like stone. But Eugenia looked past this, overjoyed that her brother lived, and quickly closed the distance to bury her face into his chest and wrap her arms around him.

Feliciano began to ramble about promises and eternal life together. That no one would harm Eugenia or judge the both of them for being together. Eugenia loved her husband greatly, but the idea of being with her brother without being condemned was tempting. Feliciano exposed what had truly changed while beginning to ramble more and more and Eugenia became frightened.

He had become a vampire and his offer was to make Eugenia just as he. Well, not so much of an offer because he slipped his fangs into her tender neck before she could make a decision. He didn't need to drink very much from her before she had fainted. She was still incredibly weak and likely would never fully recover. The sensation of her brother, cradling her in his arms and feeding from her, was the most pleasurable sensation Eugenia had ever experienced, so she slept into an unconscious state with a content sigh and woke shortly after to find herself still in Feliciano's arms.

Confused and hungry it took a moment before she realized she felt much stronger than she had since the beginning of her last pregnancy. In fact, she had never felt this strong in her life. But she was confused and allowed Feliciano to tend to her. He brought her from her home and out into the night- for once she did not immediately feel the nighttime chill that so often plagued her- and he taught her how to feed. All of this was done in a haze and Eugenia felt she was most certainly dreaming. It wasn't until Feliciano introduced her to the Satanic coven he had been brought into that she woke from her daze. The coven wore dark clothes that smelt of death and glared at her in a horrifying way. Eugenia clung to Feliciano's side, becoming panicked and confused as to what had transpired.

As a rule: to join the satanic covens one would have to have lived a dark life. Killing, stealing, and continuous trickery was the preferred lifestyle. It was what had caused them to be attracted to Feliciano and yet Eugenia had never intentionally hurt anyone. In their eyes, she was a waste and Feliciano a failure for having brought in the wrong type of new member.

Eugenia was led off by Feliciano who attempted to calm her down. She cried and clung to him and her flailing was even worse when Feliciano urged her to rest in a coffin to sleep through the day. Begging him not to leave her she fought for him to not bring the lid down but sure enough he did and Eugenia, being a newborn, quickly fell asleep by the strength of the coming dawn with her hands still prying at the lid of the coffin and tears still coursing down her cheeks.

Eugenia, if given the option, would have likely turned down the opportunity to be a vampire. During those first few months if someone had offered her mortality again she would have happily reclaimed it.

She reverted back to her childhood attitude of being relatively quiet and only exposing her personality around Feliciano. However, now there was the added anger that she had been taken away from her husband and children. She loved her brother and always had, even while she was married to her husband, and she felt it a beautiful twist of fate that she could now truly be with him. And yet, she loved her children and being apart from them broke her heart. At first she displayed complete hatred to her brother but the coven frightened her as well and she ultimately began to look to Feliciano for protection and support. After some time, she came to terms with being parted from her children and realized that as a vampire she could, in some ways, protect them. Feliciano helped Eugenia to slip away from the coven so that she could check in on her children a few times a year. This helped Eugenia to regain trust in her brother and her love for him developed into a more solid and open emotion.

Prior to the year 1580, Isabella and Feliciano, Eugenia’s children, both died. Through their lives she tracked their growth, successes, and failures. She witnessed their marriages and saw the children they produced. But it was when her two darling children died that she finally broke ties to the mortal life she had left behind. The death of her children pushed her into a darker place than she was ever before and she willingly went with Feliciano to Paris in order to help the development of the Paris Coven led by the vampire Armand. It was there that they adopted French styling names that stuck through the rest of their existence. Feliciano became Felix and Eugenia simply became Eugenie.

Eugenie went back and forth between being a brainless member of the coven and questioning her beliefs. Often she remembered her life previous to the one she was now living and missed it. Even more often she wished she could simply be with her brother and not bothered by others. Even after all of this time Eugenie’s creation was a disagreement between the coven and Felix. In order to ‘make up’ for making Eugenie into a vampire Felix was asked to make another vampire, a more suitable candidate. An Italian woman named Eleni was picked and brought into the coven. A woman who was familiar with the same life style that Eugenie had been raised on and was just as lost and confused as she had been when she was made a vampire. Quickly, Eugenie and Eleni formed a bond and with time Eleni’s strength showed through and she quickly became the one who mothered Eugenie.

For two hundred years Eugenie and Felix aided the coven in terrorizing the area of Paris until Lestat and his mother Gabrielle approached the group and altered their way of thinking. Armand began to attack the coven, destroying all vampires who now were considering living like mortals, and the siblings escape with only a few other members. By the following night only Eugenie, Felix, Eleni and another vampire, Laurent had not been killed by Armand. They approached Lestat and requested his help in establishing lives that were similar to his. He bequeathed his former theater to them and they fell under the rule of Lestat's deranged vampire fledgling, Nicki. But even this is only for a short while as Armand came to join the theater, taking the lead alongside Eleni who tried to control the insane Nicki. Otherwise, Eugenie remained by Felix's side and performed nightly.

In the near three hundred years she had been a vampire, she forgot how much she enjoyed singing and having interaction with mortals. In this way, Eugenie became slightly more human than she was beforehand.

By 1812, Felix and Eugenie decided to leave the theater. At this point all of the original theater members had left or gone into the fire, aside from Armand, and the siblings yearned to be on their own. This was the start of an age that Eugenie was at her happiest. Being away from other vampires, the pair was able to be in love without any judgment from others. They traveled through Europe together and settled down in different places for as long as time would allow.

By the 1980's they were happily living in Naples, Italy. They had a small house together where they would spend their evenings reading, walking hand in hand through the city streets, and falling asleep in one another’s arms when the sun rose.

Eugenie began to have dreams of red haired twins, which caused her some worry. Generally, if she ever dreamt, it was about her mortal children and occasionally she would fantasize about her descendants- if her lineage had lived through the hundreds of years. But never before had she dreamt of something completely unknown to her. Felix was apprehensive as well and that only caused more concern for Eugenie.

As Akasha, unknown to the siblings, began to discard the world of mortal men and vampires the siblings could feel the raised tension in the air. Frightened but eager to know what was going on Felix set out to find any information he could.

He left Eugenie in their small home, reassuring her that he would return shortly and not to worry. Eugenie waited impatiently, nervous and feeling in her core that they were all in grave danger. Understandably, when Felix never returned Eugenie began to become even more upset. The last time Felix had left her side with a promise to see her soon had been when she was a mortal. He had disappeared after that, being killed and made a vampire. This experience was far too similar for Eugenie's taste and she worried that the worst had happened. With unease she went to her rest for the day, the first time she had slept alone in years, but upon the next night when he still had not returned she went to the streets to search for him. From the thoughts of mortals around her she quickly learned that a man, much like the description of Felix, had been on fire. He had run through the streets and thrown himself into the ocean. Quickly Eugenie rushed to the waters edge in search of her brother but found nothing.

Completely distraught she lingered in the city for months, hoping that he would return. When she saw Lestat’s latest adventures in a bookstore she finally understood what had happened to Felix. It was all there in the pages of the book- he was dead. Nearly five years passed while Eugenie continued to live in the city. It took that time for her to gain enough courage to move on by herself. She had never been on her own but she also found it hard to leave the location she had seen Felix last.

Over nearly thirty years Eugenie traveled from city to city. She sought what comfort she could get with little memories of her brother, the most comforting was to go to the theater. She began to write reviews about different shows she saw through out the world and began to gain popularity under a pen name. Becoming somewhat of a businesswoman and not relying entirely on the money she and her brother built up during the centuries, she finds her independence pleasing although still wishes her brother could be there to share in her happiness.

Hearing that New Orleans was having new theatrical productions after the hurricane, Eugenie set off for the city with the intentions of remaining there only long enough to see the shows, write her articles, and sight see. Despite hearing that other vampires are in the city, she had no intentions to linger.

Abilities/Powers: Eugenie has been blessed with the mind gift and the fire gift. However her most powerful ability of all is the spell gift in which she can manipulate people (and sometimes weak vampires as well). She can also socialize with mortals well and does not cause them to feel uncomfortable around her as most mortals feel when in the presence of a vampire. This is a recent 'ability' that she has developed since Felix was killed and she was forced to live on her own.

EXAMPLES
First Person:
There was always some level of apprehension when I entered the mortal world. For nearly thirty years I had forced an existence amongst mortals; enjoying their wonders and entertainment just as they did. But still I felt the difference between them and I. Still I realized that I was a creature while they were living and breathing day walkers who appreciated their lives so very little. During moments like these, as I slipped through the crowds of the theater goers to find my seat, I felt as if the Eugenia that I once was- loving mother and wife- was a completely separate entity. She wasn't me and I was not her and we had never been one.

The patrons of the performing arts were out in full force for this celebration of theatrical life in the reborn city of New Orleans and I was settling in amongst them with ease. No one looked at me twice and I was happy that I was able to cloak what I was so well.

I took my seat, three rows back from the stage just as I liked, and quietly observed those around me. Old Southern money was shown everywhere in the jewelry and clothing worn by the people and nearly everyone was judging the quality of each others wardrobe.

Then I felt it with a sudden shock, another vampire in the theater and quickly approaching. I scanned to my left then turned to my right and nearly jumped. Long dark hair falling in black curls down her back, dark jewel-like eyes sparkling at me, and a slight smile upon her lips as she sat regally in the seat beside me.

"Eleni." Her name was spoken with the faintest breath as I observed her. My brothers fledgling who I had so long ago departed from the theater and I had not known if she continued to live.

"Eugenie," she replied with a nod of her head. "I thought I felt you in the city and figured this would be the best place to find you. I hope I didn't startle you."

Her dancers feet were always her biggest strength as she moved about silently and snuck up on others with little effort. I smiled at her, remembering the many years we had spent together at the theater in Paris. But my smile faltered as I felt my heart tighten. It had not always been just Eleni and I, no, Felix was a part of that life. Even after all of these years my heart would pulse with grief when I would think of him.

Eleni observed the emotion on my face, it was what she did, and despite having my thoughts blocked to her I knew she understood where my mind had gone. Always the observant one. "I read what happened to Felix in Lestat's books. I am so sorry, Eugenie."

I felt my entire body stiffen and my eyes grow moist. Now was not the time to shed blood tears, there were too many mortals around. I blinked away my tears and gave a quick nod before turning my gaze to the stage to await the start of the show. Eleni said nothing but reached for my hand, grasping it and holding it tightly as the theater bells began to ding with gentle assurance that the show was about to begin.

Third person:
Eugenie sat on a couch that faced the windows of the room. It was a lovely vantage point, looking down on the city so that she could see the mortals moving about, living their lives, completely oblivious to what was really going on. Her heart was in her throat and she strained with her preternatural hearing for any sound that could be connected to Felix. However, there was nothing. Just the hum of mortals and their thoughts. The racket of traffic and planes flying overhead.

There were few times she had wished someone else had made her a vampire. What she and Felix shared was special; it made them closer than others. He had been her maker, they had shared one another’s blood when he brought her into this existence, and it had made a bond that was incredibly strong. But there was one negative aspect- Eugenie could not search for his thoughts. He was blocked to her and now she was cursing that one rule between maker and fledgling. If only she could call out for him, if only she could ask if he was all right, if he needed her help…

Her skin was beginning to feel warm and static as the sun drew closer to rising. Still, Felix had not returned. She waited until the sky had turned into dull pinks and yellows before she forced herself to move. Slowly she made her way to the crypt she shared with her beloved, telling herself that she must do this.

What if he was fine? What if he was already in the ground somewhere in the city? She would be incredibly stupid to allow herself harm because she had waited up too long for him to return. But she paused, looking at the place where they had slept so often, and felt a dreadful feeling come over her.

This would be the first night she had not slept with Felix near her side in hundreds of years. The first night as a vampire that she was completely alone. The dreadful feeling, the suspicion that Eugenie had, was that this would not be a one-time affair. No, there would be many more nights after this one that she would spend alone. She could feel it in her heart. Lying down the only noise she made was that of a subtle sigh. She stared up above her and felt the sun tugging at her body, wanting her to go to sleep, and she finally did with the stains of blood tears on her pale cheeks.

MISC
General plan:
Eugenie has long ago accepted that she is a vampire and her mortality is something that she'll never regain. If she were to become a mortal again, she would want her children and brother to be by her side. The one thing she does miss most right now is her brother. Without him, she never feels quite whole. When she appears in New Orleans she has not heard of the objects, it simply is not in her circle of knowledge, but if she knew of the object that could bring back her brother she would certainly attempt to use it. In the meantime she intends on remaining in New Orleans only long enough to tour the city and write a series of reviews for the theater productions the city is putting on. She had never been to the Gulf Coast region and hopes to experience the culture and tourist attractions while she is there.
