Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Sometimes I forget how much I miss being home and how quiet it is here. Well, quiet is relative when I go into town with all the tourists flocking here for a few days before heading across the channel, but I've gotten as used to it as I can over the years. It was almost clear enough to see France today - I tried to take pictures though, unfortunately, I couldn't zoom in close enough to get a clear shot. Perhaps another day when there's less clouds and less wind. I also need to remember to bring gloves; it's not too terribly cold (not like at Hogwarts, anyway), but the wind is what really does it.

Dad doesn't know I found out, but apparently he's getting me a cat for Christmas, one that I can take back to school with me.

Every creak, every whisper of noise? It makes my imagination run a bit too far, I have to admit.

I know Dover, sure. My uncle and aunt took me there when he had a conference once. I got to stay in the car, so I can say with certaintly that it is a very fine parking lot you lot have there.

You have an overactive imagination.

We have quite a few very fine parking lots, actually! And there's more to see than just the interior of a car. You should come down here one day and just stand on the cliffs. It's fun.

I've seen what goes bump in the nig A guy's got to keep himself occupied, right?

You know, I have always wanted to see the White Cliffs of Dover. I saw them in a cartoon when I was young with - some dog. Snoopy? Anyway, you know, that might be a good day trip, disapparate down there and check out the scenery. Are you around the whole time?

I suppose, though you seem like the sort who doesn't have to keep yourself occupied with you friends around and all the Quidditch you play.

Really? I don't really watch telly, so I'm sorry, but I have no idea who or what it is. Usually I'm around, but don't you want to make that trip with your friends?

Well - at night, you can hear a lot of things. If I could find a way to play Quidditch at midnight, I would. That's not a bad idea. Good training!

You're one of my friends - though, it might be odd to spend time without our mutual pal, The Squid. I don't know if we can survive without him, hmm.

Yes, but it's dangerous playing in the middle of the night, isn't it? What if a tree or the castle come out of no where and you hit them? You'll likely spend an entire week in the Infirmary and I hear that's worse.

I miss him already, don't you? Too bad he couldn't come on holiday.

But then you would have to rely on your other senses - it's a very Zen way to play. This is brilliant, I think I need to suggest this to the team!

You know, I offered him my bathtub, but he seemed a tad reluctant to leave. I don't know what that is, honestly, it's a perfectly fine tub. I think he's quite picky.

I'm not sure that's a very good idea though. What if they get hurt and you're down several players? Of course, I probably shouldn't feel upset about that since our houses are enemies in that sense, but it would be rather unfortunately, you know.

I offered him the channel and he refused that as well. He must be the pickiest squid ever; what's so special about Hogwarts lake anyway? It's not that impressive, really.

Hmm. You might have a point. Though I'm certain Seamus would spring to able action. Still. I might need to think this over.

Honestly, what is his problem. The Channel is quite lovely, lots of room? New adventures? Perhaps he dislikes the French?

At least you're not springing to instant action. I'm sure you'll pick the best option though and hopefully the one that won't get people hurt.

Lots of room? There's tons of room compared to the lake he's in! But it might be the French - I hear they're rather unpleasant, so I doubt they'd take kindly to a Giant Squid lurking around their shores.

I must admit, I am having a vision of Ginny beating me half to death with her crutch - it is giving me pause.

Well, that means that the squid isn't German, then he'd enjoy the increase in living space. Just a little World War II humour for you. I'd imagine if the French noticed a giant squid lurking off their coast, they'd get prepared for a month's worth of calamari in all of Normandy. I certainly don't have much inclination to give the French much, sorry. Though maybe the squid would like a holiday in Monaco? I hear it's wonderful there.

Just Ginny? You don't think the rest of your team would do the same?

I've always been under the impression that the squid's either Dutch, Irish, or something else that's relatively neutral. But that could just be me. Monaco. Now there's an idea; we'll have to suggest it to him when we're back at Hogwarts.

In my imagination, Ginny's paid them off to beat me up on her own. Kat's in traction, shining her galleons and shouting CV CV as Ginny wails away. It's a very complicated vision. Like I said: overactive imagination.

What about Portuguese? They were neutral and they have a history of exploration. Maybe he got lost somehow, like a ten-tentacled Magellan. And if he wants to go to Monaco, I think he'd need some escorts. You and me. And maybe a few others. The survivors on my Quidditch team, perhaps.

Overactive is beginning to be quite the understatement! What does CV mean?

I'd say Australian or New Zealand-ish, but that's an awful long way to travel, even for she-him. I think Monaco wins, and perhaps it could be a school trip. Are there any wizarding villages there?

You've never spent time with my team: this might not be too far out of the realm of possibility. CV is our team motto - constant vigilance. It's quite dear to me, and now to them, even though they protest it. Too much, I say.

I think Monaco is only the size of a single city, but perhaps there is a wizard enclave? A wizard casino that we all can frequent? Though I wonder if the squid would need fine dining apparel to go to such a place: we might need to get him fitted for a smoking jacket and bowtie.

Constant vigilance? Didn't Professor Moody used to say that in my second year? I can see why you would say it with your team though. They constantly need to be on the lookout while they're playing, don't they?

There's bound to be some around there give its popularity. Though, I have a question. How exactly are we going to measure him for a smoking jacket and bowtie? I don't think they even make measuring tapes that long!

That is from Mad Eye, yeah. Brilliant man. Exactly! See, Orla, that is the kind of understanding that the team lacks. They think it's annoying. They lack vision.

I'm not sure? Maybe we'll take a rope and then measure off of that? I mean, he clearly can't go without the proper dress. As they say, No shirt, no shoes, no service!

Perhaps they just get tired of hearing it? I could be completely wrong, but I know when I hear things over and over again, it gets a bit annoying after awhile.

It'll have to be an extra long rope! But that might work. You'll have to stun him long enough so he'll hold still.

Orla, don't take their side on this one! Moody says that repetition is your best ally. Well, that and constant vigilance itself.

Isn't that cruel, to stun him? Can't we just reason with him, convince him that he'll look quite divine and to just play along? I think a black velvet jacket would be very slimming on him.

I'm not taking anyone's side here, especially since I barely know what you're talking about and the fact that I'm not even on your team! But maybe they're just telling you that it's already seeped in by this point?

You've got a point, but if he doesn't cooperate at first, we might have to result to such measures. You think black would look best? I was thinking a very dark blue might work, actually, but we could always have both made and see which looks the best.

They've gotten to her. Perhaps. I'll mull that over. It's so catchy though!

Now that you mention it, midnight blue might be fetching. The bolder question is, what about a violet? Would that be pushing it or perhaps just the right mix of daring and adventure for such a squid of his stature?

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

I never said it wasn't catchy. CV CV!

I think violet might be pushing it just a wee bit. Maybe a dark green or red though. He is rather old, so something more distinguishing as violet.

It's like the chorus of a song you just can't get out of your head: CV! I have accidentally said it instead of cheers once or twice. It just lodges there.

Violet does perhaps have a touch of an air of 'brothel singer,' but I don't know about red. And clearly not orange, that's just wrong.

I'm afraid it's a tune I'm not yet familiar with, but if I'm to be friends with you, I guess I should learn it, shouldn't I?

Then I think we'll have to go with dark blue or black, a traditional look, so he doesn't wind up looking like a Canons fan or something just as silly.
