Seattle
Dolemeck had no place to stay, so Tyler was kind enough to allow him to crash in his apartment until he could find his own living arrangements or continue his travels to California to visit his parents. Unfortunately, the wounds he suffered made traveling that long a distance a bit impossible, so he just stayed where he was. What made it worse was the news that the Helicarrier was attacked, and the woman he wanted to love, the one he wished to share his true feelings with, was presumed dead. Things could not possibly get any worse.

Laying on the floor of the apartment with a pillow under his head, and a blanket covering his 6' 2" frame, Dolemeck's phone began to ring beside his head. He picked it up and remembered the right button to push this time to talk. Things just got worse, as it was his adopted Mother, Venus, calling.

"Sweetie? Are you alright? You have not called in a few days and I was worried." Venus's voice, despite being over the phone, was still an amazing thing to hear. It was unlike any other voice on this planet, that was for sure.

"Mum, I am okay, I promise." He spoke softly, one hand now moving to rest under the pillow his head rested upon. "I am staying with a friend."

"That is good that you have a new friend, Dolemeck." Venus's cheerful voice continued to remain haunting as it was beautiful. "Look, sweetie... I know about what happened to that girl you really liked, and your father and I are really concerned about you. We were thinking that maybe you should come back home to live for awhile, maybe see Doctor Samson on a more regular basis to help you through this. Losing a first love can be very hard, and in your case it was very traumatic..."

"Mum, I'm fine..." He sighed, trying to give off as little emotion as possible as he talked. He loved his adopted parents, but Venus sometimes smothered him with worry. She worried if he was eating well, would not allow him to really live by himself as he could easily be taken advantage of, and worried how learning of his time displacement affected him. Now, she worried about his broken heart. "Things like this, they just happen. Nikki died as she lived, a hero. And while it hurts I never got to tell her how I felt, she would not want me to dwell upon her death, but move on."

"Dolemeck, a broken heart takes time. And you should be with family to help you through this. You should not be alone right now..."

"Mum, I have demons trying to drag me back to limbo. It's not safe for me to be around family at this point. Even if you are Atlas, I fear for your safety. I will just... I will figure something out. I will give you a call later when I am more settled."

"Alright..." Venus's voice sounded very reluctant to even accept what Dolemeck was telling her. "But if you do not call later, I will call you myself. And make sure you are eating well! We love you, sweetie."

"I love you, too, Mum." Dolemeck gave off a sigh, hanging up his phone. Little did he know he had the phone on speaker the entire time, and that Tyler could hear everything that was talked about.

He hadn't meant to overhear, but..well if the man has the speak on he can't really help it.

"Um..hey. Coffee?" Tyler offered sheepishly.

"Bloody hell... I did not know you were there!" Dolemeck sat up, hissing as he held his side. The wound still felt a bit raw, so sitting up like that did him no favors. "Coffee is good, aye. I am... I am sorry if I disturbed you. I did not mean to talk so loudly."

He gave a sheepish smile of his own before managing to get up and walk over to the kitchen. Dolemeck was thankful his backpack had his sleep pants and shirt inside. The rest of his luggage was stuck on the train... and ended up getting sent to California without him, then back to his apartment in Manhattan. He still needed to get new clothes and things to be somewhat comfortable as he stayed in Seattle.

"Sleep well?"

Tyler waved it off, handing Dolemeck the coffee.

"Don't worry about it, I'm a light sleeper," Tyler assured. "As long as I get a couple hours I'm usually okay. So..your mom eh?"

"Aye... my Mum." he held the coffee in both of his hands, blowing on it's contents a few times before taking the first sip. "Adopted Mum, anyway. She and my adopted father could not have any children of their own for... certain reasons. So when I was "restored", I knew absolutely nothing. I was like a baby in an adult body, and they took it upon themselves to raise me as best they could."

There was a small smile forming upon his lips. "I love them dearly. They did not have to take me in or care for me, but they did. Though my Mum has a terrible habit of smothering me. She's frightened I could be taken advantage of easily or manipulated."

Tyler listened, taking a sip from his own cup.

"I can understand her worrying," Tyler conceded.

"I cannot understand their worry, sometimes." He took another sip of the coffee, his eyes now looking down into the mug he held. Dolemeck's eyes were an unusual green in color, the pupils looking like that of a cat at times. "I am not allowed to live on my own, despite how hard I tried in Manhattan. I was on my way to visit my parents to plead with them to let me live on my own, that I can manage living in a place without any help. But... well, the demons side-tracked my journey, and now I have no reason to return to Manhattan. Well, other than to attend a funeral."

"I suppose it's like letting a teenager out into the world, though in some respects it's almost like having less knowledge than a teenager. On the other hand, you can't grow if you don't live," Tyler mused. He looked at Dolemeck. "Sorry to hear about her."

"Aye. She was a very nice woman, a member of SHIELD." That small smile remained on his face as he spoke of Nikki. "I met her while I was working in a used bookstore. She was selling books her ex-boyfriend left behind. I could not understand how someone could wrong someone as beautiful as her. We talked, and then she invited me to this "Starbucks" for my first coffee. We became friends, and I... was hoping for something more after awhile. She was one of the few beings who could accept me and treat me as "human"."

Shaking his head, Dolemeck thought it was best to quickly change the subject. "I have only been in this era and out of Limbo for fourteen years. I still do not grasp how paper money works, which is what worries my parents. I have unlimited access to money, but they do not wish me to be duped with it."

Tyler reminded himself to mention beauty doesn't always make someone a good person later, as now was probably not the best time.

"Well I definitely wouldn't advertise to people just how much money you have access to," Tyler advised. "Sure there are honest people out there, but there are just as many people who'd fleece you if given the chance."

"Fleecing people is not something new." He grinned a bit. "I remember this time my Lord was fleeced by woman, once. It served him right however. As much as I admired Lord Gawain, he could be a bit of a letch. There was this one time..."

Dolemeck quickly caught himself rambling about his past life and moved back on track to what Tyler had told him.

"But aye, I understand what you mean. Because I lack knowledge, I am an easy target. The transition from coin currency to paper is confusing to me, still. My cousin Derek would handle finances, while I would bring home a paycheck. When he left, I had to call home to ask what to do. Even Nikki helped me out sometimes... which was most kind of her."

"That's something that seems to transcend eras well enough," Tyler said with a smirk and a shake of his head.

Okay, didn't want him getting depressed again.

"What kind of job did you have?"

"I was a clerk at a used bookstore. It was my job to scan the books with this machine, and then place them in order on the shelves." He smiled proudly at himself for that. "I did not mind having to work over-time or covering for the younger employees who wished to go party. I was happy to help others with the knowledge that these books contained."

In other words, Dolemeck was taken advantage of by the younger employees constantly and never knew it.

Tyler felt himself inwardly wince a bit at that. He didn't really have the heart to elaborate on things.

"It is! I did not think I could ever find something I was good at in this era. Especially since sword fighting appears to be a long dead art." He started to drink the rest of his coffee, which had finally cooled down. "What of you? What do you do?"

"Well there's a niche for stuntmen and trainers for movies that require swordsmanship," Tyler mentioned. "..on second thought Hollywood's full of double-dealing and back-talking." He paused at Dolemeck's question. "Me? Well..I hunt supernatural threats."

"There is one supernatural being I wish dead." Dolemeck's eyes flashed red for a moment as he looked over at Tyler. "I want Morgan Le Fay's head on a bloody stick for what she did to me, what she stole from me. if she is ever encountered, she is mine to deal with."

"She is the reason I am like this, and why my name was soiled back in Baths so long ago." Dolemeck hissed, leaning up against the wall of the kitchen as his wounds were starting to hurt. "My legacy was destroyed. instead of being remembered as a good Knight, I was remembered in a tale called "The Wife of Baths". My name was never used, but it hurts to know that my legacy is that of some rapist and letch of a Knight. None of which are true. I was chaste until this year!"

Shaking his head, his eyes soon turned back to their green color. "I want to help you on these hunts of the Supernatural. I may be naive, perhaps simple. But I do not want anyone to suffer as I have because of them. No one deserves such a fate, and I will do my best to prevent such."

"Aye, I wish to join the Nightstalkers. Only if you will have me, of course." He walked over to the sink with his empty mug and began to wash it out. He took a drying cloth to dry the mug, before placing it in the rack. "I may not know much about this new era, but I still know how to fight."

"I understand." He gave a nod before holding out his hand to Tyler, wishing to take his mug if it is empty to wash it. " I do apologize for the trouble I caused you and your friends that eve. If I had remained on that train, the demons would have begun attacking the passengers until I surrendered and returned to a lifetime of torment in Limbo. I felt it was best to shadowport off the train and try to fend them off myself, but I was in over my head. I did not have my sword nor knew where I was. There really was no winning."

"I... am not being a maid. I just want things to look as they should. you know, as in not looking as though you have a century and a half year old demon sleeping on your floor." "Odd, isn't it? It is almost as if we are all drawn here by some weird chance."He blinked, rubbing his chin. "You and your friends came to aid me when I was trying to lure those demons off the train... perhaps there is a strange fate going about drawing the supernatural here? I do not know. But even if you are an informal team, I would like to be considered in a vote to join. I still feel compelled to join, not with guilt over the demon attack, but a need to do something right in this era."

"I'm sure after hearing that the others will agree to let you in. I don't suppose I need to tell you how dangerous it could be? There's already a vampire lord in the city who we're on pretty tense terms with."

"I do not care about Vampires. They have nothing on the Demons of Limbo, so I do not fear them. If I did, I would not be rooming with a quarter vampire, now would I?" he gave a small chuckle. "Look, I have seen battle as a knight in Arthur's Court, battled for my survival in Limbo, and managed not to drive myself mad in this era. I think I can handle a Vampire coven. As for learning of paper currency, that may be the only battle I may not win."

"Well, technically not a real vampire, but I digress," Tyler said, deciding not to complicate things with genetics. "And don't underestimate vampires, especially the old ones. Regular vampires may just seem like ordinary monsters, but the elders have powers far surpassing their younger kin. This particular one dismissed alchemical wards like they were nothing."

Tyler sighs, he can educate the man later. "One battle at a time."

"That does sound powerful..." He blinked, not thinking elder vampires could be so strong. "Aye, one battle at a time. I doubt I could go about this city with a sword strapped to my back. It was hard enough to do in Manhattan, but this place would be even worse! I may need to start using dirks."

The thought of using dirks instead of his sword was somewhat depressing. He was a Knight, and enjoyed his craft. But sometimes you just had to make due with the situation you are in.

"To be fair this one is also a sorceror, so he may possess powers conventional elders don't." Tyler nods. "Yeah, carrying medieval style weapons, especially in this day and age, is going to cause unwelcome attention. Dirks? Is that some kind of shorter sword?"

"Actually it is a long thrusting dagger. They did not have them in my time, but I did train in the use of them while I was with my new family." Dolemeck got up and walked over to his backpack. He took out two long boxes, about a foot in length each, that were at the bottom of his backpack. With much care he set them down on the coffee table, opening them up, and showing Tyler what they looked like. "These ones in particular are Scottish in nature."

"Well, that's okay. There are things I do not know a whole lot about either." He smiled, closing the boxes to each dirk. "If you want, I could teach you how to use them. It should not be too hard. When you use a weapon, you have to remember the intent is not just to kill, but to protect as well. I believe that is how the term "double edged sword" came to be."
