Flashback (back to the regular kind)
Kristoff Vernard was nine years old, and everything was finally back to normal. He knew who he was properly again. The Master was done with his dimensionwinding travels -- and it was really him for certain, and Kristoff was privileged to be the only one furnished with proof. And life was quiet and happy again in the castle.

He was reading a book on Goedel when he noticed someone was in the room. He looked over.

"Hello, little prince." Amora the Enchantress sits in a chair opposite him. Well, it is not so much as she is sitting, as it seems as if the chair is wearing her. Her body language seems so fluid it is as if she might glide across the room without warning. She gives him a dazzling smile with eyes like something that lurks in the tall grass, waiting for something young and tender to amble by.

Kristoff, blinking, stands immediately -- and with perfect posture, of course -- now that a Lady is in the room, setting his book aside.

"Good afternoon," he says with a bow, still wide-eyed when he looks up again.

"No need to bow, little one. It seems I was unexpected by you." Her tone is playful, as she floats (literally) across the room, examining him carefully, but with a smile.

"Do you know who I am?"

Kristoff, still wide-eyed, watches her and thinks.

He has plenty of information to draw on. "The Enchantress."

Processing a little more, considering the 'by you,' he pauses. "I... I assume the Master is expecting you?"

"Intelligent, and such a strong little face.." She draws a finger under his chin, smiling detachedly, before responding to his question.

"Oh.. Victor knows me well enough to expect me when it suits me; and I know him well enough to be certain of when he can... receive me." She draws her finger away from his chin as she smiles wider, laying on her side in midair.

"I've seen you flitting about in his shadow, little prince. You serve him faithfully and well."

Between the hand touching and withdrawing from his face and the fact that he's practically about to burst with pride at her words, Kristoff's trembling some.

"Thank you," he says, eyes locked on her, a little flushed.

She cocks her head and grins, teeth exposed. "Such a darling little thing you are!" She exclaims as she runs fingers through his hair. "Has the Enchantress made you uncomfortable, little prince?"

She breaks her gaze from his eyes, seeming to look off into the distance. "Is it that I'm the most fearsome thing you've had to look upon in your time with Victor? I would hope you can steel yourself against more frightening visages, if you are in his service."

The boy stays standing straight. "N-not the most fearsome at all, Madam. By most definitions, quite the contrary. And as the heir to the Latverian throne, I would face anything my sovereign and my country require me to, beautiful or terrible." Or both. Little of both. Hence the 'most' in 'most definitions'.

Amora kisses her fingertips and touches his forehead. "A sweet sentiment, my little prince. Your tongue will serve you well in this land's affairs."

She looks off into the distance, apparently sensing something. "Ah... Victor." She turns back to Kristoff. "Little prince, be a dear and tell one of the castle's servants to bring some fine wine and roast meats to your king's bedchambers. We will have need of them... in time. Farewell, for now."

She tucks her hair over her shoulders, stretches languidly, then is gone from the room.

He nodded obediently as she spoke and...once he recovered a moment after her departure, went to speak to the appropriate people about food for the Master's guest. With much warning about being careful to not intrude. He didn't want to accidentally send anyone to his death.

The recovering did take a moment. It had been a very unusual experience.

Kristoff Vernard was twenty-two years old, and the past few days had been...very bad. The rejection still stung a little as he stood repairing a spot on the wall of his laboratory, damaged in a private fit of humiliated pride.

"Why so sad, little prince?" A voice like bird-song drifted over his shoulder, carrying perfume and the scent of fallen snow with it.

Along with a magical presence that was almost overwhelming for one such as Kristoff, adept enough to sense it, but not enough to shield against it.

"Good...Good afternoon, Madam." Kristoff immediately straightens, sets his tools on the table, and turns around to face her if she was visible..although perhaps not immediately looking her in the eye. "It has been years, I must say, since I was either of those things. And I assure you my difficulty is nothing of consequence to others."

"It's more than birth or title that make one a prince." Amora smirks, cocking a hip to one side as she rests her hands on her waist. She eyes him appraisingly. "I will concede that you are hardly little anymore though..." She takes a step closer, licking her lips.

"We have business to discuss, you and I."

"It concerns him somewhat, so certainly not." She puts a finger on his chest, tracing small circles.

"I have kept a careful watch upon my son, Kristoff Vernard, even if I choose not to raise him myself. You have cared for him as if he were your own blood." She locks eyes with him. "I am here to grant you a boon."

Kristoff and his perfect posture shift just slightly, not exactly comfortable with grabbing the goddess's hand away.

He listens, and keeps her gaze for as long as humanly possible. There's a little bit of relief that she apparently doesn't want to take Vincent away. He wonders if Vincent, though, would find that a disappointment.

And then there's the other thing.
"Please let me assure you, Madam, that you do not owe me anything. My reasons for taking care of my brother are my own."

"I'm sure they are." Amora takes his left hand, examining it as if she were looking through his skin.

"As are mine for being here, young prince." There's a bit of intonation on young, rather than little. "The boon is mine to grant as I see fit." She raises his hand to her lips and bites the third section of his middle finger lightly. The flesh is unbroken, but a drop of blood appears, encircling the finger before fading from sight.

She reaches for his other hand, holding his fingers to the spot. "If there is ever a task within my power, you may ask it. Grasp your finger in this manner, and whisper my name. There is no need to yell, just whisper."

Kristoff reacts with raised eyebrows to all of this, but doesn't pull his hand away. He knows it wouldn't be easy to do, for one thing. It is certainly a little awkward, out of context or in, when one's brother's mother bites one's finger, though.

"I understand. Thank you, though I do not know that I will ever see the need." He won't; he tells himself. And then he reminds himself that he has lots of brooding repairs to continue. "Is there anything else you wish to discuss, Madam?"

"I'm sure you believe that right now, young prince."

Amora floats past him to examine the gaping hole in the wall. "Was there a battle here? In what seems like your own private sanctuary?" She looked back at him over her shoulder.

A long pause as he looks to the wall. Finally. "Someone I care very strongly for does not feel quite as strongly for me."

He straightens. "When reflecting on this and on affiliated circumstances, I was less than reasonable for a moment."

"Aww.. a broken heart? Mending that particular state of affairs is certainly within the means of my powers, young prince." Amora grins seductively. "Whether working my ways upon your lady, or upon yourself, if you wished."

She then looks momentarily delighted, floating back and running fingers through his hair. "Less than reasonable? Is that how you choose to describe your righteous anger?"

There's a very, very small part of his mind that takes a surprised, curious interest at her words. Psychologically-metaphorically speaking, it is swiftly and repeatedly punched in the face by the dominant portion of his mind and told to go in the back with the Doom programming.

"Thank you, no, Madam. I will not have her manipulated, and I do not wish to love her any less well or faithfully than she warrants."

Kristoff turns his head away. "It served little useful purpose."

"Noble, and perhaps a bit sad." Amora shrugs with a wry smile. "Much like the man that gave me my son, and that you wish was your father."

She strides away from him. "If you care to reach me... simply whisper my name, my handsome young prince." She hesitates for a moment before departing, lest he wish to say anything.

To call the comparison in her words somewhat bittersweet for Kristoff would be quite an understatement. His eyes shut, his head lowers more.

He forces himself to speak before she leaves. "Thank you. For the record, I believe Vincent might be interested in seeing you sometime."

Amora blinks, and the smile fades from her face. "When he's ready... we will have much to speak of. Not this day though. Not this day."

There is a brief shimmer of light as she vanishes.
