Six Months (Pregnancy meme, with teammates and baby-daddy) [15 May 2013|11:37am]
Jo shivered in her seat, then moved her hands away from her stomach. Feeling the little monster moving inside was bad enough, without having to feel it through her skin from the outside as well. "Ugh... just want this to be over with. This is totally getting into Cronenbergian horror territory, not just usual horror." She comments to the boys at her table, as she continues with the only non-alcoholic non-caffeinated beverage in about forty yards.

Meme Response - Kelly - Fluff - Flirtation [24 Jan 2012|07:36pm]
Jo took a bow as she finished her set, closing the lid to the keys for the piano and exiting the stage to mild applause. She settled in at the bar for her usual post-performance virgin cocktail.

The Greatest Sound You've Never Heard [30 Nov 2011|07:13pm]
Joanna sat down at a bench in Pioneer Square, watching all the coming and going. She liked this park. Besides having a fountain, a personal preference of hers, it had an old-city feel to it, which was the whole point, to be honest. The totem pole it was known for was the real thing. Not one of those gaudy things rich white people liked to put out in the open so people could see that they're ever so culturally open.

She took out her violin and laid down the case. She didn't consider herself a panhandler, specifically, she held down a regular job, after all, but on the occasion that anyone wanted to express their appreciation of her music, it was a handle place to drop their coins. The case in place of a hat or bucket wasn't what she knew made people stop and stare. It was the veil. The damned stupid ugly fundamentally necessary veil she wore when she played. It wasn't like it really inconvenienced her. Papa, in all his sometimes appropriate paranoia, had taught her to focus enough on her hearing to keep anyone from ever getting the drop on her. All the music she played in public were pieces she'd written herself or knew by heart. She didn't need to see, she just needed to not be seen.

The familiar sense of anticipation shuddered through her as she put the bow to the strings, and started playing. Tartini's violin sonata in g major. The Devil's Trill. Her absolute favorite piece of music in the whole entire world. The classical version, not Mae's variant, although she loved that too. Still, she felt it happening like always, a couple dozen measures in. She could feel the energy coarse into her skin and hair. She felt her organs and heart growing more still, even though she seemed fine outwardly. She was turning into a monster. The same damned curse that made her so wonderfully talented now was the reason she had gotten through music school with one forged medical excuse after another, because she couldn't play in front of others.

Still, she played beautifully, and people could hear it, even if they couldn't see her face. That was something.

App [29 Nov 2011|02:55pm]
Player (nickname, handle)/ LJ: Terry
Email: tj_mccarron@yahoo.com
AIM (if you have one): GoggleBoy83
Character Name: Joanna Michelle Ketch
Character LJ (if applicable): devilonstrings
Physical description (face, build, weight): Pale to mildly tan complexion, hispanic features, black hair usually simply styled and hanging to her shoulders or collarbone.
Age: 18
Birthday: November 1
PB: Julieta Venegas
Abilities: Joanna can channel demonic energy through playing music, or, more rarely, singing. Her strongest abilities, besides a blast of sonic force, are emotional influence or body puppetry. Various other great works can bring forth various effects, but she is still learning to master her powers. She is best with the violin, but can manage some simple effects with a pair of drumsticks on improvised surfaces.
Weaknesses and flaws: Anytime she plays violin, her forte, she begins to transform physically, as her body becomes infused with the energies she channels. This makes her take on a gradually ghoulish appearance, her skin growing pale and thin, hair turning white, her eyes fading away into blue flames, and turning progressively skeletal. This state makes her more physically durable, but also susceptible to being drawn into the same negative emotions she may induce in others (rage, despair, fear, etc).
Channeling energy through singing is very difficult and is less effective the further she transforms.

Later transformation - http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/excerpt_20110722.jpg
Character location/Home: Undetermined
Alignment (villain, hero etc): Hero
Relatives (living/dead?): Danny Ketch (father[?]/living)

Backstory: Joanna was left at Danny's doorstep, with a note saying she was his daughter, but no return name or explanation. Rather than see her go into the system, and with his time as the Rider behind him, Danny adopted her as his own. Her names' links to his brothers seeming enough proof for him, along with having his sister Barbara's eyes. Danny kept Joanna as far away from any kind of superhuman or supernatural activity as possible, keeping a low profile and working blue collar jobs to support them both.
Joanna turned out to be, while not a prodigy, a talented violinist, and loved music in general. Danny was happy to encourage her, taking on a third job in hopes of sending her to a private high school to cultivate her talents more. However, it was at the same time that Deathwatch managed to track Danny down again, causing a multiple car accident to fuel his powers, and take his revenge. SHIELD's mystic division intervened, as Danny was unable to defend himself and Joanna, who was caught in the accident. Both her hands were near completely paralyzed, leaving both her and her father distraught. Having kept one link of his old chain, Danny took it and called out to anything or anyone willing to help, after doctors were unable to help Joanna's condition. Mephisto answered, and Danny mortgaged his soul, reasoning that it's destination had probably already been slated years ago. True to the bargain, Joanna recovered practically overnight, retaining all of her skill needed, and believing it to be a miracle. She was even finally able to master a particularly challenging piece she'd never gotten quite down before, the violin sonata in G minor by Giuseppe Tartini, better known as the Devil's Trill. However, she found that as she played, things began happening around her. People would fall asleep, or become agitated, or elated. Things would move or break, and she herself began to change. She confronted her father about the changes, and he revealed what he had done. Joanna was furious and heartbroken to discover her father had sold his soul for her sake, but forgave him in time. Her renewed talent gave her the means to gain a scholarship to a better music school, and she left for New York.

How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?: Encounter Nick or another supernaturally inclined character, possibly the Avengers, before the formation of a new Nightstalkers or Midnight Sons. Joanna's outlook is to fight horror with horror, and feels she qualifies.
What are you planning to do with this character?: Have her experiment with her powers to see what she can do with various musics, and learn to let others get closer to her in spite of her condition.
What do you want to see happen with this character?: One day, find a way to perform for an audience without her transformation being revealed.
