At Ozai's gesture, the page darted back outside the throne room. Seconds later, the doors were opened and the Earth boy dragged in.

Ozai smiled when he saw that the boy was struggling - he still had his spirit. More valuable as a teacher than a broken child. He watched as the boy was forced to his hands and knees in the proper bow of greeting; without a word one of the guards placed the point of a sword between the boy's shoulderblades. The meaning of that was clear - if he attempted any earthbending at all, the sword would pierce his heart.

"Your name, boy?" he asked, his voice deceptively mild.

He was pleased to see fire in the emerald green eyes that raised to meet his own. "Haru."

"Haru," Ozai repeated, hiding a smile. Old Fire. The boy probably didn't even know what the name meant, let alone its origin. "My youngest son is an earthbender." He saw those green eyes go wide in shock, and continued, "You will teach him, or I will raze your village." Shock slid into fear, and Ozai allowed the smile this time. The boy understood that he meant every word he had spoken - which meant he didn't need to send for another earthbender.

A moment passed, then two, and then Haru bowed his head in submission.

Smiling, Ozai turned his attention to the men guarding the boy. "Take him to the Palace Chamberlain and have him outfitted as befits a prince's tutor," he ordered. The guards bowed, hauled Haru to his feet, and dragged him from the throne room.
