Henry Jordan was Jai’s best friend, but he was going to talk to him about the whole trying-to-get-him-laid thing. Jai likes girls, rest assured, but having Jenna Feinstein (one of the hottest cheerleaders in school, mind you) maul him at the last dance wasn’t’ something he was used to, or even comfortable with. Henry’s exploits were an open secret of sorts, but Jai didn’t want to fall into the same category. Besides, with Irey never being far behind, it was only a matter of time before Mom and Dad would want to sit down and have “the talk” with him. Jai West didn’t need precognition to know that he’d die of embarrassment the moment they started in on the Birds and the Bees. There was a girl that Jai wanted to get to know in that way, but it would never happen for a million different reasons. The thought should have vanished years ago after he came to that understanding.
So why did he still think about her?
Jai’s cellphone vibrated on his desk and he was across the room in an instant, going to check the message. He groaned outwardly, as much as he smiled inwardly at the message that Jenna accepted the idea of the double date with Henry and Erica Marsh. Jai hadn’t actually agreed to go, but Henry asking in his stead committed him. If he begged off again it would look weird, especially if Kid Flash was out later in the night.
If that wasn’t enough, he didn’t even have anything to wear.
I need a female’s help with clothing, one that isn’t my mom. he thought to himself. He wasn’t overly fond of the mall, but Iris was good with clothes. Besides, mom was on him to spend more time with her, so this seems like a good idea.
Two seconds later, there’s a knock on Iris’s door. When she opens it, Jai is smiling at her.
“I’ll buy you lunch if you help me spend my birthday money.” he says. “We can even go to Mexico if you want.”
Then Jai turns the puppy dog eyes on his sister, daring her to turn him down.
