Alina app info
Character Name: Alina Vasquez
Character LJ: collateralmagic
Physical description: Alina is a slender, attractive girl in her late teens with wavy dark brown hair and brown eyes. She’s about average height for her age and possesses about average muscle-tone, which will probably change once she starts heroing. Her clothes are inexpensive or second-hand, with occasional inexpert modifications either by magic or by hand.
Birthday: August 19
Codename: Kaotik
PB: Demi Lovato
Abilities: Alina uses Chaos magic to cast spells and is decent at dirty-tricks hand-to-hand, although she has little formal training. She speaks English and Spanish fluently and knows quite a bit about cars.
Weaknesses and flaws: For every “controlled” result of her magic, she also produces some sort of “chaotic” effect over which she has little control and no ability to predict. The effect never undoes her controlled spell, and she can usually keep the effect equal to or lesser than her controlled spell. If her concentration is broken, or she casts a lot of spells in a short period to time, the effects become greater and more chaotic. Attempting to undo a chaotic effect with a spell takes a long time and a great deal of concentration. She’s otherwise a normal human being, with all the weaknesses they have. Finally, she can be bossy and smart mouthed with a tendency to be impatient when she thinks someone isn’t keeping up like they should.
Character location/Home: El Paso, Texas
Alignment: Hero
Team: Young Justice League
Relatives: Damper (Father), Bonita (Mother), The Posse (“aunts” and “uncles”)
Backstory: Alina was born to a pair of magical metahumans just after the Tenth Age of Magic began. They ran with a street gang of other magic metahumans to protect themselves from La Dama, who was known to be collecting anyone with anything “extra” about them. Within a year of her birth, Alina was kidnapped twice for the powers that she would grow into – once by an agent of La Dama, and the other time by Eclipso. Both times, she was rescued by the Blue Beetle.
She grew up in El Paso with her parents and a variety of “aunts” and “uncles” in the Posse, not to mention regular contact with the Blue Beetle in both his heroic- and civilian-identities (although she didn’t find out that they were the same person until she was in her teens). Her parents and their gang eventually moved off the streets and into running a youth shelter, although they haven’t entirely left their shady pasts behind either. Alina’s childhood and early teen years continued to be peppered by the occasional kidnapping, although the Blue Beetle always came to her rescue.
Her childhood was also chaotic in magical ways. She started coming into her power when she was in early elementary school – the first spell she can clearly remember casting resulted in her math homework completing itself in an instant and a great deal of shrieking as the butterfly barrettes of the girl on her left came to life and took off for the ceiling. Spell-casting came easily to her, keeping a handle on the chaotic effects was much, much harder. She spent most of the past ten years figuring out how to keep the effects from getting too out of control.
How do you plan to introduce the character to the game?: She’s going to help keep Ty focused in his fight against Cthulu (Jeff has given me permission to do so).
What are you planning to do with this character?: Get her involved with super heroics and occasionally be the accidental cause of some things that the next generation of heroes has to take care of before the adults find out. I’d also like to do something with the Lords of Order and Chaos, the Tenth Age of Magic, and Eclipso.
