[it would be good if this day was just like any other day, get up, work, work some more and then check by his brother's house to make sure everything was okay and then return home for a nights rest. today was that one time of the year that he hated. the anniversary of his father's death. normal families would go to the cemetery and pay their respects, have a drink or two and a dinner in honor but not when you were born to the father of one of the more powerful heads of organized crime in the city. it was bad enough that you had to be reminded by his lieutenants that you were a traitor to the family in the grand scale coming together of the men under his control but to be trailed by your own, two undercover officers easily picked watching him throughout the day. born into a family and no matter what you done, you were always persecuted by it, regardless of innocence.]

[now the rest of the night was free, taking to a local bar holding his own commemoration for him, cracking the seal on the second bottle of whiskey and pouring it into the glass that long lost its ice.] Cheers. [raises to glass up to no one but the row of bottles across the back wall, knocking down the drink no longer feeling the burn. everything was comfortably numb.]

[make a man fall in love with you... what kind of orders were those? it would be easier to understand if the man had been heavily adulterous and was easily swayed by pretty things, but there was nothing about Hashirama that read that way and it was hard to imagine that any man who wasted away in a bar and talked to himself could be a threat to anything Madara proposed to do. cop or not, what she could see of Hashirama now was... sad. and maybe is also in some sort of mood, inwardly angry that one certain person didn't object to this idea, and she was encouraged to go along with it, for the good of Madara's goals... but has never heard Madara's goals, or a promise, or anything indicating that he's someone worth following. has been forced to go along with the ride due to someone else, and that someone... doesn't even care if another man might fall in love with her.]

[has been watching Hashirama for some time now, waiting for him to get to that certain level of inebriation before making her move, slipping next to him at the bar, looking almost naive with the light makeup this evening. also found it unsettling that Madara went to such lengths to direct her how to dress, with the nice but conservative evening wear, and the neutral, soft tones of makeup. like a country-girl lost in the big city. guesses it's this guy's "type" but finds that in war, love shouldn't be employed as a tactic... and does, to some degree, feel genuinely bad about this. but an order is an order, and if there was ever a time to reject one, now wouldn't be it.] Is this seat taken? [sounds cheerful enough, putting a soft, warm hand on the back of Hashirama's hand to get his attention.]

[if this was earlier on in his life when he started out in the force, there would be pretty girls swarming around them fighting over who gets to sit next to him. good old academy days, always competing with each other, the way to settle things was not to fight but to find a long horizontal bar and see who can beat each other at chin ups. that was how be met his wife... ex-wife... how amazing she was. not one of the bimbos that wanted to touch the cop but, she was too busy using one of the tables to wait for the rain of that night to pass. with her thick book in front of her, sipping on an iced chocolate of all things. someone drinking like that inside of a bar instantly caught his attention. so he tried to play suave, make a move, got punched and laughed at by his comrades but boy, could she hit. how beautiful she looked when she couldn't stand being around him and ran outside, the faint mist of the dying rain highlighting her hair. she was... absolutely eye catching... and...]

... [looks up... that is not her.] Sure. Sit. [doesn't really put much effort into it, lazily waving his hand about like she didn't know where the direction of the chair was. how things had changes so much. someone who was so cock sure and headstrong, idealistic when starting this job, could become a pitiful old man so fast. and he wasn't that old.]

Thanks. [gives a small smile and slips into the bar stood next to his, catching the attention of the bartender. orders a kiwi-strawberry daiquiri, virgin. so no alcohol here, either!!]

Rough night? [turns to Hashirama, fidgeting with her hands as if nervous, trying to play the part perfectly.] Me, too. That's why I wanted to come to a place with a lot of people... as if trying to be social, but truthfully I don't think I really fit in here. [turns to face him.] Not that, you're some kind of... unpleasant company. Or a sloppy drunk. Or someone I... shouldn't be insulting. Sorry, sorry. I should have just stayed home and finished reading. [country girl that speaks her mind, something easy to get into the role of because... has always wanted to speak her mind. and is from the country, so at least her slight accent is natural, making her more believable.]

[okay, the drink caught his attention but not enough to really take notice, grunting at the reply to her question. rough night? yeah, something like that. normally he would have been more attentive but he was obviously drunk beyond all drunk could be. a woman should be treated with respect no matter where you meet them... maybe another night. pours another glass and knocks it back, her talking lingering there, hearing it but not hearing it. insulted... that happens. don't worry lady, when you work in his line of work you are the scum of everyone's world. wait... for a second he could have sworn she was talking to him.]

What were you reading? [swivels around in the chair more, rubbing his chin roughly. not smooth at all but stubble sometimes scratched. and he was slightly intrigued.]

[looks a little more pleasantly pleased that he's talking back to her, but of course knows why. if she was being herself, she wouldn't be talking at all, and would be drinking whiskey just like he was. and they would maybe lock eyes once, give the silent bar buddy nod of agreement, and continue drinking.]

Advances in Botanical Research... Developmental Genetics of the Flower. Volume 44. I graduated years ago, but... they just learn so much every year that I have to keep reading. There's passion and then there's obsession, right?

Only depends on how you see it. Obsessions fade, passion is forever. [leans up against the bar and rests his head with the side of his hand. not trying to be alluring, trying not to fall into the bar.] What field are you in? I had an interest in botany growing up. They study of genetic control of the timing of flowering interested me because bonsais, you control their growth with pruning but some people, they look to genetically manipulating... something inside of them to make them small. [that is totally technical.] I should at least ask your name. [no you shouldn't. you are a detective who is weary of all, whose brother has been targeted by your rival, who should have more personal security than this.]

Ethnobotany. I'm also a herbalist... I studied the effects of certain plants on people, and how they've been used throughout history. Flowers have always interested me... how roses can be used to soothe or win a woman's heart, and the petals from that same flower contain anthocyanocides, so when crushed and spread over her skin, she can help maintain a younger looking face, naturally, and keep her man sending her more and more roses... romantic things like that, I loved those as a kid. I still do. The strength and beauty of flowers is something often overlooked.

... And it's Konan. [wasn't told to not use her real name, so. why not.]

[tries to pay full attention but lets face it, he is drunk and you are using big words. a smile starts to come out, a little peek and then back down, back up again spreading that little bit wider. who is this lady? there is something so intriguing about her.]

Hashirama. [holds out hand... oh that may be a bit sticky from the bar so wipes it off on his pants and holds it out again waiting for the shake. could go for a smooth grab and kiss once he has it but that is player style and is not looking for any kind of relationship right now because lets face it, after your wife in an orgy before leaving you, that would make her a rebound.] You are a very intelligent woman and very beautiful. [nothing to grab onto, just stools behind to cushion the fall, the bottom railing catching his butt and flicking the top of it forward, hitting the top of his head in the same swing. phew, lucky he doesn't feel that... much. hahaha, well embarrassing too. did she just reject him?] I can hold my liquor, don't you worry. [wags his finger for the last three words, chuckling at himself. ahh needs to get back up. the stool comes to the rescue again, grabbing onto and pulling up to his shaky feet and the first thing he goes straight back for, not the pretty lady at his side but for the bottle, neglecting the cup this time and going straight for the bottle chug.] What time is it? [you can't go past a bit of human contact, something as simple as a soft hand on top of yours was enough to draw attention to it, give enough of a side effect as a hand down your pants grabbing your junk. a concerned stranger was surprising but in a good way. people never went out of their way to help others anymore.] There might be a bruise in the morning. Right now, don't feel much. [can feel the hand, rolling his head back closer to it, pausing, enjoying it, maybe happy memories. isn't even a one night stand kind of guy but he is human and humans crave closeness and sleeping back to back with your brother isn't the kind you want. this is a stranger! no, bad Hashirama. call up your brother now and listen to him whine about the hour and then get him to pick you up.] Can I buy you another drink?

[feels another little pang of guilt for doing this, because it's almost too easy, and it's obvious Hashirama is just... lonely. really lonely. can sympathize, as nice as it feels to be touched, has missed doing the touching. not even intimately, just the closeness. doesn't care about sex or some deeper meaning of making love. is already in love, that isn't an issue. but has longed to be embraced, and knows she shouldn't because it puts her at an emotional vulnerability. didn't consider this before starting the night out, and is sure fucking him on the first date won't be approved. Hashirama is a bit too drunk to perform well in that area anyway, so doesn't think it's going to be an issue. would almost prefer it, since it's easier to understand carnal urges over emotional ones.] Yeah. You can. [offers a smile, letting her hand drop down to the bar, next to his.] You should drink some water. [scolding tone.] Start getting some of the toxins out to lessen your hangover tomorrow.

[just takes a little sip of sugary... badness. but its the best you could get at a bar without you know, drinking alcohol.] You ever get the urge to just... go outside sometimes? I mean, places with people. I'm not usually... I don't talk easily to people sometimes, but I do enjoy being around them. Sitting at a crowded cafe, just people watching.

I've always felt I never quite fit in, so I prefer to just watch. But sometimes it's just too lonely to watch everybody else's life. So I thought I would go to a bar, have a few drinks, and just talk to anybody around. But I ended up just watching those guys over there play pool. And everybody else here is with somebody, but you weren't. So even if you ended up being a jerk, I came her to try, so at least I did that.

I understand what you are saying completely. [unfortunately a little bit too well. as much as his obsession... no, passion, was for catching Madara, all of the man hours he put into the case so far hadn't got them anywhere. all of that time wasted where he could have been out with someone or at home with his wife. every species needed interaction with their own kind. Hashirama wanted to go and spend time with people as well but the drive to stay and work was too high and kept him in. spend most of his life watching and not participating in the lives of others.]

Hopefully I can make the night worth while then. I can't offer much but some foolish rambling and a refill on your kiwi, but company is always good. I have been told I was a jerk before so I can't say that you might not think that. If you think so, I can at least tell you who is going to win that game over there so if you get in fast enough, you could place a bet on the winner and clean up. ... You know who will win? If you can guess or not. If you guess correctly... I'll give you my number and let you take me out for dinner. [be cocky in your flirting... that was a specially marked note in her directions.] But if you guess incorrectly... then you have to keep buying me drinks for the rest of the night, and I won't give up my number.

White shirt is being hussled. Four game streak, low bets, not much lost. Cocky red shirt came in all up in arms about being the one to finally put him down, doing for the drunk act lowering his skill level. White has gotten cocky in his winning but the others would have been playing the part for it or genially sucked. The bet they are playing for now will make up the losses and triple them. You noticed all of that while drinking that whole bottle? I'm impressed. [looks unsure, frowning a little.] I don't actually know what I just ordered, but the first time I ever went into a bar, someone ordered that from across the room, and they were so excited about ordering I thought that it must have been something good... [bites lip.] But don't worry, you paid for it so I'll finish it. Maybe if I drink it faster. [and down it's going to go!... gradually. little cough.] ... Mm, not really close, but not far. I had to take the train to get here... so more far than close. I wanted to go somewhere with people I definitely didn't know, for a new experience.
