Lines lines everywhere, but not a drop to drink.
Lines. Lines. LINES LINES EVERYWHERE!

It was his own fault, really. He had made sure to be at the airport himself, even if he wasn't actually leaving right now. Hell, his trip wasn't even for another week, but he got an e-mail to check the airport he was using. Plus he wanted to head up north. But apparently there was an issue with the airlines computer system which threw the whole thing out of whack. So now here he was. Sitting here. Waiting to head to Seattle and not going anywhere. And there was nothing that could get this crap off his-

He-llo Nurse!

There was a cute girl pretty much right next to him in line. He has no freaking idea how he didn't even notice her, especially since she had...well, green hair. But she was cute. As in really cute. And she was standing right behind him. Maybe that's why he didn't notice her before. He was the last in line a second ago.

"Pardon me. Do you have any idea what's going on?"

Eye contact eye contact eye contact. Even if she is a little taller than him.

She hadn't thought it was Rider, but most people weren't used to how quickly she hopscotched through information, so Elaine just smiles. and nods. "Understandable."

"I wish I was more familiar with the folks around the Baxter building, to be honest. I don't really know a whole lot of people in the business besides my cousins."

"I sort of understand the feeling. Not deeply involved because, well, Oklahoma. Aside from the occasional trouble that could easily have passed for a Scooby-Doo villain, not the sort of place for that action. And I don't want to join the Foundation because when it comes down to it, they have Science Adventures, and I'm not into the sciences."

"I know the feeling. I always have to deal with stuff that most would think kind of weird. I've dealt with..."

Fingers go up as Derek tries to name all the strange things.

"A sorta-demon adopted cousin who is ultrasensitive, vampire cows, swords that are trying to destroy magic weapons, father eating dragons, and a whole alternate universe made up of empty desert and mongolian skeletons."

"All right, I'm not going to wade into the rest, because I'm in no position to talk, but I want to address the point of a sword that tries to destroy magic weapons. Do you mean that literally? Because if a sword is trying something, it is probably a magic sword, what with having some kind of agency in order to try. And if it's a sword, it is, indeed, a weapon. So if it's trying to destroy magic weapons, it has embarked on a mission that can only end in self-destruction -- assuming it doesn't begin there."

"Yeah...it's like that. It was really weird to begin with, and it acted far more like an AI than most types of magic swords. Very dedicated and not understanding the weird duality of its own existence."

Derek chuckled a bit. This was quite relieving to share.

"But hey, that's my life right now. And I wouldn't have it any other way."

"Glad to hear that, at least. So, you doing early admission for College, too, or what?"

"I...I honestly haven't given college much thought. I'm kind of next in line for something and any time I haven't spent schooling has been in learning the ins and outs of the foundation."

The schooling also came from technomagic monks several miles underneath San Francisco.

"So in New York, you're just....broadening your horizons in general? Nothing wrong with that, of course."

"Pretty much. I've been trying to get to know the cape crowd, but nothing really stuck to my liking."

Derek sighed. It was a lot more his fault than he wanted to admit, but he was busy still trying to learn the ropes.

"Hey, at our age, we've got plenty of time. I personally decided to go to college early, but plenty of room to figure things out. Especially if you've got to deal with part of you going on about how you're just killing time before Your Real Career Starts."
