Captain America

So. After some discussion, I think this idea has been appealing to the most amount of people.

Starting over completely from scratch. We start with the beginning of the modern age. (People like Namor and Cap will need to discuss WWII details, but I don't want to start back then, so we'll likely establish that most of those events with the Invaders, etc, occurred.)

I figure it will work like this. We'll start with only characters who were introduced from 1965 or before, or who were retconned to have been active in that time. (Wolverine, for example, would be playable in that time, because he was active as a hero during that era.) We use the comics for a general guideline, and take what we want, and RP out what we want. So, for example, if Michelle wanted to RP out Iron Man's origin, and make it less Silver-Age, she'd be free to do that. She could RP out Iron Man's first encounter with Black Widow, or with Hawkeye, etc. We'd have a pretty good idea as to the plots we'd want, so plots should be able to move quickly. If anyone was stuck, we could always just grab one of the comics from that era and steal the plot, or we could come up with our own if we preferred.

After we were done playing in that time period, we'd move on to the next wave, of characters introduced from 1965-1970. And on and on. Whenever we jumped into the next era, we could state "X number of years have passed," which would allow for character aging, so characters like Cassie Lang could start out being 8, and get to be 14 and superheroing, without needing 6 years of ongoing RP first.

How close will we stick to canon? That's... really up to the players. We'll take it an age at a time. "What are the major story beats for your character over this 5-year period? What do you want to keep, and what do you want to dump, and what do you want to RP out on your own to make your own? How will this work together?" In a lot of ways, it'll kinda be like the concept behind the Ultimates, but actually executed well (and I'd personally like to see people actually being the characters they're apping for, as opposed to totally different characters that happen to share the same name. Ultimates Cap is NOT Captain America.)

As far as organization goes, I'm thinking that we'll handle it like this: each team gets its own dedicated mod. They help organize the plots, and help facilitate RP for that team... kinda the same way an editor for a comic helps guide that specific title. Over all the mods, there's a head mod: sort of like the editor-in-chief. The head mod will also handle the solo heroes and miscellaneous baddies. This will help keep teams organized and give the feel of a small team-based game, while allowing a lot of expansion if there's the player base to support it. The head mod would not be me, even though I'm kinda helping organize this at the moment. And each of the team-mods would still be part of a mod team -- they would just be ultimately answerable to a single person in charge. That person will be Michelle.

These are the teams that would need mods, at least to start. As the timeline continued, we could add more, depending on the teams we added (we could get a Defenders mod, for example).

The Fantastic Four. I volunteer for this gig. If anyone else wants it badly, I don't mind shifting around to a different team.
The Avengers.
The X-Men.
SHIELD and the government.

These are the characters I see as important to the starting era:

Mr. Fantastic
Invisible Girl (or Woman?)
Human Torch
The Thing
Hulk
Ant-Man
Wasp
Thor
Iron Man
Captain America
Spider-Man
Daredevil
Dr. Strange
Nick Fury
Cyclops
Iceman
Angel
Beast
Marvel Girl
Professor X

There are other characters playable, of course, but those are the characters I'd really like to see filled before we move into the next era.

SO. That leads to the next questions.

Is anyone willing to take modding of a single team? If so, which team?

Is anyone willing to take any of these important characters?

Are there other characters from this era (either published history or retconned history) that you'd like to play?

I'd like to keep Tony, of course.

And I'd be interested in trying my hand at the Hulk, and I'm willing to try one of the X-Men.

I'd like Spidey, though I could go for an early Doctor Strange.

I know you asked me and told you yes so I'm just echoing that answer now. My personal preference would be Avengers but I'm fine with X-men once I buff up on it.

I think all the characters listed that I would be interested in probably have players willing to do them all ready so I can't help you there.

For characters now on the list, well, you know I want Wanda. I also think Jimmy Woo but I don't know how we'd be going with that. Those are the only ones I can think of right now unless we have like, Scott Lang dealing with baby Cassie or however old she is in this time.

I'd like to keep my two old cranky spies. Natasha and Nick.
Sif too if she could be worked in.

I'd also be willing to do the SHIELD duties. Or Avengers.

I would love to be able to play old school Cyclops, actually. And possibly others, like Thor or Hulk.

I might take Wasp out of that group there.

As much as I like Jean, I'm really waiting for the era where Emma Frost comes into play, and I don't think I need two telepaths. :D

In what stages would the new era's be introduced, like how many months apart?

What about OCs?

What about the next generation of heroes and by that I mean Young Avengers and New X-Men?

Would time pass normally? I have been in games where one week IRL equals one month game time.

I'm just not familiar enough with any of those characters to take one on.

I don't want to be a mod or in charge of anything. I just want to play.

How many months apart would likely depend on how many stories people wanted to tell in each era.

OCs... good question. I don't think they'd be forbidden; I like OCs and think they can add a lot to a game.

Eventually, we'd get to the era when the YA and New X-Men and Runaways could be introduced, but it wouldn't be for a while.

Time wouldn't pass normally. To give a good example why: those next-generation-heroes you just mentioned. I'd like to see someone play Stature eventually without having to wait for 5 years (since she was about 8-9 when the character was first introduced). It'd likely be something where, every time we did a new "wave," we'd state, "X number of years since game-launch" or something like that.

Not being familiar isn't a huge penalty, since their canon is starting from scratch. But I can understand the reluctance. Still, if you want to challenge yourself, it's certainly open to try a new character and learn about them as you go.

And yay for playing!

You could always read some old issues and see if any obscure character who doesn't have many appearances catch your interest.

Of course, I understand if you don't want to do that. I'm making myself read the first X-men issues and it's slow going.

There are only three women on the list Gavin and they've already been taken. =\

I should reread before commenting but the itching is getting in the way.

I'm interested in picking Thor up, after giving it a lot of thought. However, in doing so, I'd like to make a few changes to work out some of the Jane Foster and heavy Donald Blake time - Thor's distance from humanity, and status as sort of set apart from a lot of what's going on is one of the things that really made the comic a lot more interesting once they got past the idea that every character needed kryptonite to be interesting.

This would, if possible, open up introducing Sif a whole lot sooner.

I'm also potentially up for temping Ben Grimm, if we get all of the FF but one, as is usually the case. Only if its needed though, he's still wide open for actual apps.
