Sometime in the future
It's been a long and hard night of detective work for Thomas. A rash of killings has hit Gotham and the victims seem unconnected no matter what angle they've looked at. Was it the beginnings of a gang war or a random killer on the loose? So far interrogating the scum all over the city has been useless. They know nothing. Not in the way where they know something and aren't telling, but they genuinely don't know anything about the mystery killer or killers he's hunting. He's not sure if the possibility that this is an isolated individual should relieve him or not, after all, so far they've got no real evidence that it's even one killer or that these killings are related. But there's no such thing as coincidence for a detective.

Thomas decides to rest at one of the nearby satellite caves Batman has set up around Gotham over the years, it's cold and rainy and he's sick of hitting dead ends. This is one of the smaller ones, stocked with basic gear, a civilian change of clothes, first aid and some food. It also happens to be the one he's told the Fox about. Not that he'd admit to doing that if any of the others asked. But if she wanted to find him or needed help, he wanted her to have a safe spot to go. Maybe that's why he seems to gravitate towards this one whenever he can, it's not like he ever expects her there though.

He shakes out the rain from his cape as he enters and is about to peel of the mask when he sees the bleeding figure on the floor.

As he puts his jacket back on he returns the once over with a smirk, not bothering to hide it.

"Sounds fun, call if you get lonely." They make their way out of the hide out and out onto the street where the bike has parked itself and Thomas fishes out the helmet from it's storage. After he's got on the bike he holds out his hand for her in case she needs help getting on. "If you're feeling up to it now or another time we can always take a detour."

They keep dancing around each other like this. Flirting and pushing the edge of each others boundaries. She doesn't mind it at all.

"Well.... It would disappoint me if you didn't try picking my locks," she admits. "I mean.... really low security places make me want to break in. And this place is so.... so.. Well. I'm not sure what I would call it but while it's safe the locks beg to be picked by a thief like me."

He's not quite sure what it is between them, he's well aware he's toeing the line of what's appropriate but he's come...not to terms with it but he's accepted it for what it is. It's not a crime to enjoy himself, and he certainly enjoys the games they play. He's pretty sure she enjoys it too.

"I'll take it as a challenge to test your security myself then. Don't be surprised this time if I barge in. This place is only a rest stop by the way, I'm not telling you about any more confidential ones. Hell, you're not even supposed to know about this one." A quick rev of the engine and he looks back to her to make sure she's okay before they take off. "Hold on tight, but no distracting me with those hands."

"Got it. No parading around the place in the nude," she says with a soft snicker. "I know. You placed a lot of trust in me telling me about that place."

She holds on resting her hands were they won't cause an issue. "Okay so no bad touches. I'll be good."

On their way she gives him directions. She rarely goes 'home' by vehicle and has to remind herself to not take him back to her real place.

The helmet prevents her from seeing him roll his eyes but he's definetely doing it. "I thought it was...necessary." It really wasn't all that necessary but he doesn't tell her that, she can probably guess.

"I don't know if I trust you on that, you are supposed to be the bad one here." But he likes having her arms around his waist and kind of wishes the ride was longer.

It's not long before he's parked the bike in a nearby alley (it has enough security built in that he's not worried about theft). "This the place?" It's not badly hidden and he takes note of the surroundings for future break-in purposes.

She blushes more under the helmet. He's really sweet. She has no idea what to do about that either.

"Molestation when you won't crash. I may be a thief but I'm a smart one." Still her hand wanders up slightly. When they park and she sees her door she can't help but grin.

"Yep." She takes his hand not even worried about how he might view that and veers towards her door. Funny thing is she's putting in a security code at this door. It looks.... old. But the building looks safe enough for this part of town.

He's a little surprised at that but lets her drag him, not unwillingly, to the door. While he waits for her to put in the security code he laces his fingers with hers.

The whole time he's mapping the area in his head, he'll take note of the security code but will ignore it later when he tries to break in, after all he needs to make this fun.

Once inside he takes note of the layout and all entrances and exits. It's pretty nice, obviously much nicer than it appears from the outside. It reminds him of one of the satellite caves on the other end of Gotham but he stays silent about that.

She's checking over a few things. The safe house is actually pretty clean looking. It looks like she could live here if she wanted to.

But there's very few personal touches. She stops by the not very often used fire place and glances at the mantle to see if she left anything too easy to trace out.

There's a single picture she's unwilling to put up of her and her mentor. She loos.... painfully young there. She thinks she was seven at the time.

	They're still holding hands and he follows her to the fire place, patiently waiting for her to at least finish a visual sweep of the area. There's not much out that will give anything she's doing away, at least as far as he's noticed. He closes his eyes and jokes, "Can I look now? All embarassing pictures out of the way?" 	See that gets her moving. She turns the picture face down not used entirely to feeling sentimental. Then she places herself between him and the fire place and just sighs slightly. 	He doesn't say anything about the picture frame he had glimpsed briefly before closing his eyes, he figures that he'll let her have that privacy. 	Tours. Right. The best way to avoid staying too close for very long. She brushed past him suddenly to do just that making sure she wasn't clutching his hand. "This is my.... sitting area I guess?" She hadn't meant for it to get like this. She just needed him to understand that she trusted him. She had to trust him now. He knew more than she had been willing to let anyone else find out.

She moves back and touches his arm. "Come on. Want to see the kitchen? Much less emotionally awkward for you. You can complain about my lack of real food. I think I have moldy bagels and a box of energy bars."

Lies. She has more than that.

Between this and revealing her name he's pretty sure she trusts him, but he's not quite sure how to take that. 	She knows he shouldn't trust her. If he tries to open up too much she will have to find ways to silence him. She doesn't want to betray him so she just has to be sure she can't. "Well.... 	"Well I am grateful you've taken care of me," Sarah confesses. She looks over at him smiling shyly. This place is actually pretty secure. There are very few windows. 	Thomas just gives her an odd look and tilts his head, "Of course I would, what did you expect?" The place is quite clean but for some reason he can't see her hiring anyone to do it. "I... don't know. But it was good of you to do that."

She's not going to say she still expects that he might want something. People always want things. She just can't guess what he would want in repayment so she's not going to ring it up.

"Actually I am pretty clean. I came here maybe a week ago to check this place over. I washed the floors, some of the walls and checked for any problems. Also vacuumed where there are rugs. It helps keep me safe if I keep evidence cleared out of here regularly. My 'real' place I go over more frequently."

She bears her teeth slightly. "There's an apartment I keep that I let the Family think I use as home.... as part of my front I keep that messy. To let them guess I grow a little compliant."

He's still giving her that odd look but it looks troubled now. He's really not sure what she expected, that he leave her there to bleed out or kick her onto the street when he was done with the stitches? It's bothering him now but he doesn't press the issue. She seems like she's waiting for something, that he ask for something in return? He really hopes she doesn't think that. If he thought that way he'd never have gone into the hero business.

"I'm impressed then. It's a good plan and you're safe if they ever decide to hurt you by attacking the place."

"Mmm. Always have a plan. It's hard to find people you know you can show your real face to..... or part of it." She manages to smile at him again.

"Let's just say you're seeing more than most."

She thinks that if she says what she's afraid of he might leave. She doesn't want him to have a motivation besides him liking her and wanting her to live a while longer.

"And I'll never trust the Family. That one is.... pretty awful as far as a criminal organization goes."

He smiles ever so slightly now, "You're looking at the sidekick to the guy who's defined his life by the motto 'always have a plan'. And of course we're pretty intense about the identity thing." A quick tap of the side of his mask just proves his point.

"No offence, but they're mob. They're never going to be high on the list of people to trust. They aren't so great even to their own.", Thomas frowns.
