Thomas and Sarah- Meme- Angst- Seperation (AU)
She'd been gone for months without a word and with no way to trace her. Just vanished into thin air. Had it been anyone else he'd be mad that they could even pull that off without him finding them. But with her...well he'd admit he was more hurt than anything. If she was going to up and leave he'd expected...well at least a goodbye, or some note or something. Not just an empty place and no leads to follow.

Which is why she's the last person he expects to see when he drops by a supermarket in one of the smaller neighbourhoods on his way home. There's an initial moment of shock and then it hits him what she's buying and her...condition. He probably scares a few of the other customers by the way he stands there, eyebrow twitching in anger, and glaring daggers at the young woman innocently making her purchases.

He never makes it home. Instead he follows her, recklessly still in his civilian ID, as far as he can without alerting her to his presence to where she's staying. Still blinded by anger, he doesn't wait till it's completely dark and changes to Robin gear to sneak into her living room ahead of her.

A tall shadow looms behind Sarah's couch, eyebrow still twitching, as she enters.

Thomas walks casually into the room, as if he hadn't just broke into the place and snuck in unannounced, dressed in civies with sunglasses on. He hadn't slept at all the previous night, in fact he'd only dropped by the manor to not arouse suspicion. So although he wore dark contacts under the sunglasses, his hair was his own, just styled differently. He wished he had time to do more but he was already running on the minimal sleep he normally got on patrol nights, plus the all-nighter after finding out about...her return.

Still he needed to keep an eye on her, so he'd hidden his Robin gear in a nearby safehouse and quickly changed to his disguise to come meet her. He still wasn't sure what he was going to do about all this. But one day at a time.

"Morning, sleep well?"

"Better than usual," she admits. She had only been forced out of bed once during the night. It had taken some effort to get more sleep but she was finally feeling more human.

"Thanks for asking." She is writing down a list of addresses down. "Need to finish taking some measurements then I'll be ready. I'm going to be adding more shelves after I redo the paint in that room."

"Good to hear," he says while stifling a yawn. Why had she wanted to start in the morning? He'd have thought that Sarah of all people would understand the hours Gothamites kept. Especially vigilante ones. Well, she was temporarily benched for now so he could see how she could actually even consider doing anything before noon. He really wasn't a morning person.

"You seem to have everything...planned out," he sounds a tad surprised. He really didn't expect that, after all she'd come just the other day and there was so much going on. But he guessed it was better this way. One of them needed to have their head in order. And his still wasn't quite there yet.

"I'm just adjusting what I already knew I needed to do wherever I was for here. It's not a big deal and this is easier to plan than a heist," she admits.

She gives him a careful glance. "We can always wait. I could do the measuring in the room and you could grab some more shut eye on the couch if you need it."

It's barely after ten right now. She feels like she could run a marathon too she she thinks that's the hormones again.

"Mmm I'd be more used to a heist-like operation," he sighs. A night of brooding over how much he'd messed up along with lack of sleep has done nothing for his mood. But he's trying not to be so sullen for her.

There's a dismissive wave at her suggestion. "And have you leave while I'm napping? No, we'll go now. Running on 3 hours for 2 days isn't as uncommon for me as I'd like it to be." He shrugs off his jacket, yes the utility belt is hidden in there along with an extra mask just in case, and puts it over a chair as he asks, "So what do I need to go measure?"

"I'm thinking of it like a recon and acquisition. Just....legal because I'll be using money."

She just looks at him. "I can't easily carry paint cans, you know. Even if I take a taxi it will still stretch the limits of what I can do right now."

She opens her mouth to protest because she can stand on a chair to do that! Really, she can. "I should just show you. I just need to figure out how long and tall the wall is, because that will help me decide what kind of shelves I'll need."

"I'll get an account set up to pay for stuff. Didn't get the chance to get to a bank yet." He knows that Alt-Dad doesn't look too far into his finances other than to give him a cheque monthly to go along with his job, so some creative money moving should hide the account's existence pretty well as long as he didn't arouse suspicions.

Sarah will just get a look now that clearly tells her he knows she's about to complain and he'll be having none of it. "I'm the taller and, for once, more flexible of the two of us," he says with finality to head off any and all protests. "Sure, lead the way and we can make our way out to buy stuff."

"I know. I just don't like admitting I can't reach things like I'd be able to. My center of balance is off so using a chair like a step-ladder isn't really a good idea."

Instead of arguing over that or money which she imagine will be the biggest issue they will have she shows him to the room an gets him the tape measure she had left in here. It looks like she had cleaned this room not long ago as there isn't any dust.

Finding said step-ladder, he brings it along as they enter the room. Standing there for a moment he takes it all in. Hard to imagine this would be a child's nursery. And not just any kid.

Shaking himself out of it he sets up the ladder and starts measuring the walls, occasionally calling out measurements as he commits them to memory.

Oh Sarah? He won't be letting you pay for almost anything. Not if he can help it. Alternate universe or no, the son of the billionaire Bruce Wayne does not let other people pay. Especially not for his mistakes.

	She writes them down even though she won't forget them. She just doesn't want to risk it. Sarah has trouble with that too but after being pregnant for several months she has an easier time picturing things. 	"There's this place on Oak and Fifth that has shelves I want to look at. Since I'm just going to go with white paint anyways I'll have to find something interesting as far as shelves go." "I rented a car for the day so you won't have to walk much." He wasn't going to risk taking a car from the manor and having the old man find out, and you didn't make a pregnant woman walk everywhere or ride on the back of a motorcycle. Public transit was also out of the question. So rented car in cash it was.

He gets his coat back on and holds the door for her. "So just paint and shelves today?" It helped to just think of this as a series of things to do and not look at the big picture. He was really trying his best to stay in a decent mood despite everything.

He couldn't get over how calm she was. And how she seemed to have it all planned out. Well, she'd done her panic moment already and had run away. Considering he was still here, he'd consider that a victory of some sort. Not sure what though.

Nodding absentmindedly he opens the car door for her. "This made more sense. Now we don't need to worry about hailing cabs and so forth, just drive where we need." Besides, he liked driving around the city when it wasn't rush hour. Driving her around wouldn't be a bad bonus either. He shoots her a small smile back, "No problem."

	She had her freak out all ready. Besides the fact that having more than a few stolen hours of sleep really helped Sarah out. "Might be cheaper in the long run," she decides figuring she can just go along with it. Now she looks up at him. "I haven't seven thought of this but.... should I wear a disguise?" He was about to start the car but blinks at her when she asks about disguises. "Depends. Whatever you're planning on looking like for your new ID is what you should go with. Because if you need deliveries and buy the stuff as a redhead but they come to your door and you're your normal self that'll be more suspicious. Especially since I assume whoever you got this place from has seen you like this already, it's too late to change now."

He gives her a reassuring smile, "Don't worry I'm here. Not letting anything happen to you. Just ask me for stuff okay?"

He throws her a humourless smile as he starts the car, "Well considering I'm in a car with you and not halfway across the world...I think it's pretty obvious I haven't had your kind of meltdown." "...worse? What do you mean worse?" Another good thing about renting a car, they could talk freely and she couldn't escape and try to wriggle out of questioning.

Frankly he's still mad and quite hurt she left without telling him about all this, but he had to admit that he still...well liked sounded so juvenile but it was true. He still wanted her in his life, and her running just told him she didn't feel the same. He hasn't gotten over that.

"I don't remember my birth parents," she says slowly trying to not let it upset her. "I've been an orphan pretty much my whole life and I have no idea what a family should be like.... The Old Man and I are close but more like a student and teacher so I kind of...."

She doesn't want to talk about this. "It hurt. That's all. I don't like people seeing me when I'm hurting so I hid out in a bed somewhere pretty much sulking and living off of takeout for almost two weeks. Not very much like how I'd usually do things."

She's had it rough, and he really doesn't know what to say to that. "I'm sorry about that Sarah. And I...don't think I'm the best judge of what is normal for a family." Despite field injuries and the like, he'd had an enjoyable childhood. But it didn't mean it was anything approaching normal, and he was well aware of that.

Staring at the road he really wants to tell her that if she hadn't run, if she'd told him, then she wouldn't have had to go through that. But he says nothing, he really doesn't need to, his silence says it for him.

If only he knew where they stood. Then he'd know if he should hug her or something just to comfort her. But he's driving and things between them are still muddled so he can't.
