Thomas and Sarah- Meme- Angst- Seperation (AU)
She'd been gone for months without a word and with no way to trace her. Just vanished into thin air. Had it been anyone else he'd be mad that they could even pull that off without him finding them. But with her...well he'd admit he was more hurt than anything. If she was going to up and leave he'd expected...well at least a goodbye, or some note or something. Not just an empty place and no leads to follow.

Which is why she's the last person he expects to see when he drops by a supermarket in one of the smaller neighbourhoods on his way home. There's an initial moment of shock and then it hits him what she's buying and her...condition. He probably scares a few of the other customers by the way he stands there, eyebrow twitching in anger, and glaring daggers at the young woman innocently making her purchases.

He never makes it home. Instead he follows her, recklessly still in his civilian ID, as far as he can without alerting her to his presence to where she's staying. Still blinded by anger, he doesn't wait till it's completely dark and changes to Robin gear to sneak into her living room ahead of her.

A tall shadow looms behind Sarah's couch, eyebrow still twitching, as she enters.

"You really are thick," she mutters softly.

"Robin. It takes two people to get pregnant. I seem to recall being very willing and.... enthusiastic."

That bit has her flush slightly.

"Which is why it's my fault. If it wasn't for me you wouldn't be. .." He can't look at her now because as mad as he is at her...he's more pissed at himself. "I should've been more careful," he mutters, more to admonish himself than for her to hear. He'd thought they'd been careful. Clearly not enough.

"It's partly my fault," she points out. "I was on the pill but ran out at some point before I could get more packs. I should have been more careful on my end."

Of course she had a feeling he'd keep blaming himself no matter what she said. Instead she focused on finishing her food off.

"It's my fault. I screwed up," he continues as if he hadn't heard her at all. "Shouldn't have happened at all." He runs his fingers through his hair and puts his head in his hands trying to figure out how he'd managed to screw everything up so badly. "I'm sorry for screwing everything up Sarah. I didn't mean..." He can't even finish that and just sighs and stares at the floor.

She sets aside the food and gently pulls Robin into another hug. What else is she supposed to do?

"It's not so bad now. I came back. We'll.... figure this out. It's going to be fine Robin," she tells him sounding much more calm than he probably feels. She's still utterly terrified that things won't go right but she's trying to help him and herself by thinking positive.

He lets her pull him into a hug but continues to stare at the floor, clearly displeased with himself. He felt like such a failure, somehow never being good enough or screwing up in some way. Why couldn't things just go his way for once?

She only gets a grunt in response. He's a pessimist at heart, and really he doesn't need much help with that right now, not in this situation.

She wishes she could do something. Anything to try and pull him out of this mood he has thrown himself into. She does get an idea. Slowly she tugs one of his hands down to put it on her stomach.

"This.... isn't a bad thing you know. Sure he does seem to enjoy keeping me up at night but pfft, who needs sleep?" She tries to smile at him a little. "This will be fine. Seriously."

"It's not like either of us had a normal sleep schedule to begin with," he replies, still clearly sullen but trying at least to cheer up for her. She was trying for him, at least he could do the same for her.

Oh. It hits him for a split second later. It's a boy. "...any name ideas?" It's his attempt to lighten the mood, although he doesn't look much happier.

"Not yet," she admits letting her fingers ghost over his hand thoughtfully.

"I know I'm going to set up a civilian ID. Might use my real last name, no one would look for it anyways..... Something French would defiantly work."

Well at least that's something he can help with, and it makes him feel less...utterly useless. "I'll help you set one up. Hmmm...I found a few of your last names, I guess that'll tell me if I stumbled upon the real one. If you don't use that well...made-up last name then." He gives her a tiny smile now and tries to joke, "Pick one with a thief reference thrown in?"

"Well I pretty much narrowed that down for you," she says not really caring if he figures it out at this point.

"Wouldn't that be too easy though? There's so many professionals out there," Sarah points out trying to not look too entertained.

He decides to take a shot, "LeCroix?"

Okay now he's chuckling, even if only slightly, "I was thinking fictional ones not real ones." There's a pause and then he looks at her very seriously. "But no references or jokes about bats." He'd hate that very much.

Long pause. "...or cats."

She gave a slight nod. He had it right.

"I'm not very good when it comes to fiction," she admits. "But given the fact I'm taking a break from work maybe I should catch up on reading."

Oh now that has her look far too amused. "Would it be bad if I let a fox reference slip in?"

He smiles to himself at that. He'd gotten it right, he had her real full name officially now. That felt awfully nice.

"Going to catch up on your famous fictional thieves? Classics only, none of this modern police stuff. The thieves there tend to suck."

"Your choice. No bat ones especially." He's secretly glad she didn't connect why he didn't want a cat reference either. Or if she did she didn't comment. Although that was a secret ID thing he supposed...well it's not like she knew him in this world anyway. Ugh he had to avoid thinking about that. Where were happy thoughts when you needed them?

"I always liked Sherlock Holmes," she admits. "But no way would I name a kid after him. It's very old world."

That has her giggle softly. "Don't worry about it. I won't do that, it'd be asking for trouble. Besides the fact I wouldn't want to compromise your family."

That almost feels like the wrong thing to say but she's very tired.

"I don't need to tell you my opinion on Sherlock," he smiles a bit.

"No, it's ah...complicated," he mumbles. It really was, they were his family and yet...not. Then Thomas's eyes widen.

Oh damn it. There was no way Dad wouldn't find out. None. And he didn't even want to think of how he'd react.

"Huh?" For a moment he had been so lost in running through scenarios of the old man's reactions that he'd forgotten she was there. "Oh. No. No, don't worry about it. It's, ah...I'll deal with it, it's my problem." But he clearly looks preoccupied.

"If you say so," she won't push him. She just got back and they have issues to work through. And she has to figure out if she might feel the way she did when she ran off.

And what she might actually want.

She has enough to deal with already, he's not going to pile more on. Retired or no, she didn't need to worry about The Batman, he'd deal with it.

And, unknowingly, he asks the thought on her mind, "What do you want Sarah? For...well everything I guess." The kid, the mob mess, the two of them, hell everything. Because he was feeling so lost right now and was trying not to show it.

"I need to find a way to get my mentor out of their hands. I don't plan on leaving the city but he may need to so I'll need to che... I need a plan. I don't know what his condition is." She looks bothered by that. Really bothered by that.

"I'll figure that out somehow." She has stopped touching him and just looks emotionally withdrawn. Not knowing what to do about her mentor really bothers her.

"And some of the other stuff.... don't know."

"Well...I was working on a plan for that but...you left." He stops and fishes through some compartments of his belt before pulling out a trinket he'd taken from her mentor when he'd found the man in the mob's care and knocked out on meds. "Here, was going to give this to you before..."

And that is just her sinuses. Obviously from the dust because this place has been shut up.

Right.

"Thank you," she can't help but kiss his cheek really quick and turns slightly so she can hide the 'allergic reaction'.

Oh dear he'd made her cry. He hadn't meant to...what to do now?

Gently putting an arm around her he pauses for a moment, trying to think of what to say that'll stop the crying, and says as gently as he can, "He's alive Sarah, it's okay. I checked on him for you just...he's okay alright? They didn't hurt him."

She can't believe she's tearing up. Damn hormones. Still she just hugs him again just glad to know that much.

"Thank you," she mumbles feeling very silly. "I.... don't usually get emotional like this. I swear it's the hormones. I can't even watch TV or I start giggling or crying over the dumbest stuff ever now."

She doesn't like it but she guesses it's okay for Robin to see her like this.
