I would like to issue a gentle reminder that all students are expected to be in their respective Common Rooms by eight o'clock pm. Students caught in the school proper or on the grounds between the hours of eight pm and seven am will be turned over to the caretaker for discipline. If you wish to avoid throwing yourselves upon Mr. Pringle's mercy, do respect the curfew.

I'd also like to mention that petty <i>public</i> in-fighting is extremely damaging to the family entire. Our fathers and mothers would be ashamed! It's exceedingly simple to hex things private; I suggest that, if you've something to discuss with a Black within the confines of these journals, you use those hexes rather than exposing us all, yourself included, to the censure of the less fortunate by causing the family Black to seem ill-bred.

That is the single most near-sighted thing I've ever heard out of you, Cassiopeia. Taking so little care for the family name in your own behavior does nothing but lump you right in with the people you're censuring.

My being rude about our relations desporting themselves about the place with blood traitors and the like doesn't disgrace us at all. It shows a Black standard. Daddy wouldn't like it at all. If some of us don't preserve the standard, then we'll all fall.

I said, if you'll listen, Callidora, rather than just talking at everyone within earshot, that there was no point in behaving nicely, and 'oh my goodness, no, not a one of us would never be idiotic enough to have relations with a traitor!' when there is, and they are, and they have. There's no point because it gives everyone the impression that Blacks condone that sort of behaviour.

I on the other hand, make it quite clear I do not condone such sheer silliness. And if you cannot contain your sister, Callidora, then I shall.

No, you choose to give everyone the impression that the Blacks are a petty rabble who cannot even agree among themselves, much less keep their disagreements appropriately discreet. You are making us seem far more deserving of mockery than of respect, and if you cannot contain yourself, Cassiopeia, you would do much better to be quiet than to scold the conduct of others, much less try to contain them.

	I'm not lording anything over anybody, Cassiopeia. I'm merely behaving as our forefathers would wish us to behave, and encouraging you to do the same.
