In the middle of the night...

In the morning, Avalon gets up and does his usual greeting of the sun and meditation. It helps center him and get him into a better frame of mind. Josh was right about many things - namely that Avalon shouldn't be so fearful. He still wants to talk to Henry though.. Maybe Henry has a good suggestion to make.
So, Avalon waits for Henry to make his way down into the kitchen, idly cleaning and what not. He has plans to make pancakes though - Avalon has gotten good at pancakes.
Henry comes downstairs, wearing his bathrobe. "Hey, Blue," he greets, moving towards the coffee pot.
"Morning, Green.." replies Ava with a grin. he's already had coffee made, and in fact has had a couple cups himself. He's especially bouncy - caffeine really jitters him out.
"That was really nice of you to take Josh out like that yesterday." Ava says honestly. "He really had a good time, he's been glowing all day and night.."
Henry smiles. "I wanted to share it with him. I want to take you eventually, too," he adds. He pours himself a cup of coffee. "Dad already at work, or is he sleeping in?"
"He left while I was greeting the sun." replies Avalon softly, his expression mild. The mention of being taken along makes him nervous though, and Avalon gives Henry a sheepish smile as he slides up to the other boy's side and plucks at the sleeve of his bath robe.
"Be patient with me? Stuffing myself down into such an enclosed space is.. why it bothers me so much when I think about it. I get claustrophobic sometimes.."
"I'll be patient," Henry replies with a smile. "It's important to me, but I want you to be able to enjoy it. That's the whole point." He sips his coffee and heads for the pantry. "What do you want for breakfast today? And do you want to give me a hand again?"
"Thank you, Henry." says Avalon softly before he grins. "I actually had stuff out to make pancakes." replies Avalon then, and he follows after Henry, peering into the pantry. "I was going to try and surprise you, but you can make them if you really want."
He then bites at his lower lip and says "I uh.. also had something I wanted to talk to you about.. going on with me."
Henry turns, still-somewhat-bleary eyes noticing the pancake mix out. "No, if you want to make them... I don't mind." He pulls up a stool and sits on it, facing Avalon. "What's going on? You need help with something?"
"i don't know if it's something you can really help with," says Avalon with a nervous laugh. "I mean.. I don't know. I just feel so lost right now.." He steps over to the counter and grabs the mix and what not, starting to mix milk and eggs and what not together as he speaks.
"I just.. I don't feel like I know who I am anymore. I'm going through some sort of.. something and it's quite distressing." he admits.
Henry, remarkably... says nothing.
He just listens, his eyes sympathetic.
Bolstered by Henry's lack of a negative response, Avalon gives the other boy a shy glance and then tires to explain.
"I.. wasn't allowed to play with other kids while I was growing up. I wasn't allowed to date or go to school or really do anything that I wanted to do.. I was always serious. I didn't joke, I didn't laugh.. Flying was really my only joy.. until two years ago." Avalon says softly. "And even then, after I was chosen by Sister Sercy to be her inductee.. I wasn't free the way I am here."
Henry nods, but he stays silent.
"And I feel like I don't know myself anymore." says Avalon with distress to his face. "I just.. I don't know. The worst thing I have to worry about is an English test - which despite my translator, I don't understand the words in Naltorian because I'm bloody uneducated so it gets to be a confusing mess and-" starts coming out in a rush, though Avalon cuts himself off at the end abruptly and sighs out a breath as he makes his shoulders come down from around his ears.
"In the end, I guess I'm starting to have issues adjusting. I don't know what to do with myself - I only really feel like the old me when I'm in uniform, and I am self aware enough to know that.. that isn't really me."
Henry looks Avalon over.
"What do you want?" he asks gently.
That causes Avalon to scoff, his expression bitter for a moment. "What do I want?" he then echos. "I'd like to belong, for once. I'm tired of being from somewhere else and being so bloody different. At the same time, I'm not even sure that I know what else I might want. I've never had the freedom to even think about it; I just have tried to accept my life and continue on without letting it ruin me."
Henry nods, getting off the chair and approaching him.
"You belong here. You always will. And I'll make sure you have the time you need to figure out the rest." He grasps Avalon's upper arm.
"And if you ever need me to do anything else... you just need to ask, Avalon."
Ava just gives a grumpy sound and nods his head before he steps in towards Henry and leans his head against the other boy in a gesture of need. "Thank you.." he murmurs softly. "I don't know what else to ask for.. I don't even know what I really want. But if I figure anything out, I'll ask."
He can't help but smirk a bit, his tone dropping to a low murmur as he says with amusement, "That or I'll just come climb into your bed, unexpected again."
Henry wraps his arms around Avalon. "It's okay, Blue. You need time. You... haven't had a chance to figure out who you are. So figure it out. I'll be here." He lowers his head to smirk into Avalon's face. "Including if you just need to climb into my bed to figure out stuff. Or my shower... or wherever..."
First contact with Henry is always a heady thing, and Avalon blinks a few times as the world gives a spin before his sense right themselves. His empathy can be a crazy ride sometimes.
"Mmmm.. I'm glad that you're agreeable to that.." he then murmurs, as a little smirk comes to play on his lips. "Though some times I do just want to be near you. But then one thing leads to another.."
"You say that like it's a bad thing," he says with a smirk, but then he breaks contact, straightening up and taking a quarter-step away.
"I think I have a right to tease you. You're the one with the reputation" Avalon replies back, though his tone is light and his expression smirking. He's playing with Henry. He grins rather widely at the dark-headed teen, but lets him retreat, deciding to play coy.
Avalon goes back to mixing up the pancake batter, a brow arching over one blue eye as he looks at Henry. "You are very distracting, Mister Jordan." he then announces.
"Oh, I am, am I?" Henry asks, a smirk playing at his lips.
He regards Avalon a long moment, as if testing the waters for further teasing and distraction.
Oh the joys of having wings. They let you do things - like poke at your partner with stiff primary feathers while our hands are busy. Avalon does just that, and gives Henry a gentle swat with his feathers, surprisingly nimble with how well he can manipulate them. Of course he just keeps on working on breakfast, not quite able to keep the smirking grin off his face.
Oh, yeah. That settles that.
Henry grins at Avalon. "I need to take a shower."
He slips out of his robe, naked, and tosses the robe over Avalon's head.
"A long... hot... soapy shower." He takes a moment to mock run his fingers up his chest, as if feeling the soap.
He gives Avalon a big grin, then turns to head towards the bathroom.
The robe lands on Avalon's head, and he sputters a bit, at least until he gets it off enough to get an eye full of Henry running his fingers over his naked self. That seems to make up Avalon's mind too; after all it was ever an invitation if he ever saw one.
The pancake stuff is pushed away and Avalon trots after Henry, catching up to him. Ava then loops his arms around Henry's middle, and pulls his body back against his chest while he takes advantage of Henry's shoulder being bare and nips at it. "I'm coming too." he announces. |
