Settling in... This happens the day after Josh, Katima and Avalon's first day of school. This scene contains boys kissing and tasteful smut.
Avalon hurries home from school today because it is a special day - he and Josh get to set up their room.
Mister Jordan had been kind enough to get the boys some appropriate furniture ordered, and the twin beds and desks are being delivered right after school. It's a certain kind of excitement for Avalon, because he's starting to feel, somewhat, like a normal kid.
Avalon has never been a normal kid, and he's never had the joy of setting up his own room before. It's rather a special little pleasure for him, and every part of it has been savored. Plus, Avalon has never had the luxury of a best friend, and he's rather burning at the chance to exorcise that and gush at Josh about his time alone with Henry the night before.
Bursting into the house, Avalon takes the stairs two at a time till he gets up to their room and sets his bag down. It appears that the movers have just left, and even though the beds are in the room, it's going to take some moving of things around to get them all situated. Rushing from the room, he almost bowls himself over the banister as he grins down at Henry and Josh and says "They're already here!"
Like a kid at Christmas (come to mention it, he's never had a Christmas either,) Avalon sprints back into the room and flops down on the bed with a whump.

Henry glances at Josh with a grin.
"He's excited."
Josh glances at Henry and nods.
"Yeah," he agrees. "I would be afraid if he had super speed."
"I can still hear you two, y'know!" calls back Avalon, before he rolls onto his belly and laughs. By he time the other two boys join him, he's almost bouncing, wearing a giant smile.
"I didn't think you couldn't," Henry replies, smiling. "You're practically glowing even without a ring."
Josh just laughs, following up to the bedroom. "Yeah. You're really bright right now, Ava," he says. "I like it when you're all happy."
Avalon crinkles his nose at the two of them, and then pushes a hand back through his hair as he tries to fight the urge to flush. He's not winning.
"I just.. never had my own room that was mine." he then admits softly. "It's exciting."
"Well, shared, anyway," Henry points out. "But... what, you used to sleep in barracks or outside?"
"Sleeping outside isn't that bad," Josh remarks idly, moving to sit down on the bed. He gestures for Henry to sit as well and then looks over to see what Ava says.
Avalon crinkles his nose some, then says "Mostly in barracks once the war started.. I mean, it's not like we weren't housed or anything while I was growing up, but usually two or three families would share a living space, so noting was really yours."
He glances to Josh and Henry, his lips smirking as he says "They knew better than to make me sleep outside. They were lucky enough that I'd come back when I went flying, but once they took me away from my mother and father, I didn't have a reason to come back anymore."
Henry sits on the bed as well, next to Josh and across from Ava.
"I'm glad they never took to clipping your wings," he says, putting an arm around Josh.
Josh leans over to give Henry a quick kiss on the cheek. The healer may not be an empath but Ava's bubbling happiness is catchy so Josh is getting more affectionate.
"Me too. Your wings are too amazing..." Josh trails off, smiling.
"Actually, they did clip me, which was my last straw.k replies avalon softly. "when i turned 15 i was deemed a man and sold off. when i refused to stop flying and also refused to be a sex toy, i got my feathers clipped and thrown underground. they were trying to break me, but it only made me more resolute. i spent three months without greetingnaltorls sun before i saw daylight again. that is why i never miss a morning now."
Avalon's tone has turned dark, though his mood is not ruined; he's simply grown serious. "It took me a year to grow my feathers back. I flew in space before I was able to fly upon my own power again."
Henry shakes his head. "I'm glad you managed it. And... maybe soon I should take you guys flying the way I manage it without a ring."
Josh winces and shakes his head. "Well, if anything ever happens to your wings again I should be able to fix them up right quick," he says, holding up a glowing hand for a moment.
"You can fly without your ring?" he asks, surprised at Henry.
"Me too, Henry. Because my road lead me here - to the both of you." Replies Avalon before he grins widely at the mention of flying.
"I would imagine that Henry takes after his father in the flying department. Those air vehicles look awfully fast and complex to me though." Says Avalon.
Henry nods. "Yeah. I finally got my license when I turned 17... when I got my ring... so now I can fly without my dad there too." He looks at Avalon. "And it's not so bad. I mean, Dad was teaching me the ropes when I was like 10. It's kinda like having a car, and that's pretty easy, right, Josh?"
Josh blinks. "A plane?" he asks. The healer looks up slowly. "Wow...that'll be kinda cool. I've never been in one before..." he trails off.
"Huh?" the healer blinks. "A car? Henry, I have no idea how to drive..."
Speaking of wings... Avalon gives a sigh as he wills his wings back from their pocket dimension. The releaf of letting his wings free floods his face, and the Naltorian all but collapses onto the bed with a moan.
A few moments later, he's sitting up, his wings pulled around himself as his fingers start to run through the feathers, obsessivly straightening them.
"I am sure that Henry will help you learn if you wish, Josh. I personally don't care to learn.. I like watching out the window too much."
Henry's eyes bulge as he realizes what Josh just admitted to. "You're sixteen, Josh. It's a rite of passage to learn to drive! Blue here gets an excuse; he's not human, but you? You're learning how to drive!"
Josh jumps slightly as Ava's wings reappear and the healer blushes at the moan. He starts to say something but stops when he notices Henry's reaction. The healer stares and offers a sheepish smile. "My grandparents were refusing to teach me or let me learn until I was eighteen so I never learned..." he trails off with a shrug. "Alright, I guess I'll learn how to drive then."
Avalon just gives a little smile to Josh, following the line of his thoughts through his empathy. Henry's excitement though causes him to laugh, and he gives the other two boys a rather smirking little smile as he continues to preen his feathers.
"Why do I have this sense of impending fear and doom for me?" he then teases, before giving another laugh. "Because I'm not looking forward to sitting in the back seat."
"I'm a great driver," Henry brags. "I haven't been in a single accident!"
Josh just blushes a little worse. "The backseat's not bad...depends on who you're back there with," he says, blushing even more. Sure, he can't believe he said it but the healer is relaxing around the Lanterns.
Poor Avalon doesn't get the "back seat' reference.
"What do you mean?" he asks. "I would think that whomever driving would make the difference if you're clutching onto your seat belt for your life or not?"
