"This is a stupid idea," Alex told Donna as he climbed into the bathtub with his sister.
Donna wrinkled her nose and stuck her tongue out at him, pulling her goggles over her eyes. "Shut up, Alex!" She said. "I told you, if we go swimming everyday, we'll grow gills and be able to talk to fish, just like Daddy."
Alex rolled his eyes at her, looking down at his Superman swimming trunks. "Yeah, but that's 'cause Daddy's Atlantean. We're just human. Like Mommy. She can't breathe underwater or talk to fish."
"See, that's where you're the stupid one," she said, as she turned off the water in the bathtub and climbed in. "It's called evolution, dummy. I saw it on that thing on Discovery Channel I watched with Daddy. If we spend enough time in the water, we'll totally turn Atlantean so our bodies can adapt to our changing environment."
At least, that's what she was pretty sure what would happen. She didn't really pay attention to what was going on the program her father had been watching that day, and kept pausing from her coloring to ask him what the boring man on TV was talking about.
