Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
While I thoroughly support Ernie's stance on the upcoming Ball, I am fairly confident that everyone will be on their best behaviour that evening. That means that all school rules should be followed and proper dress is to be worn - nothing scandalous or too revealing; we are still in a learning institution and people are ages should not be wearing things that are obviously inappropriate. The teachers will be patrolling the dance, as will Ernie and I, and the prefects will more than likely be keeping an eye out for any wrong doing, too.

Private to Ginny Weasley
I can't believe I'm about to say this. I don't know what to wear.

Private to Linda Moon
I realise how preposterous this might sound given your attachment to Neville, but could I have your reassurance that you genuinely care about him and aren't just interested in a few stolen kisses in several empty broom cupboards or even in the common room? You might think me rude, but Neville is a friend of mine and can easily be hurt since he's so easily influenced. Also, I know I have been avoiding you as of late, and I have no doubt that you can assume as to why, but I would like to inform you that whatever happened between you and Ron is fine. It was really none of my business at the time and still isn't given the extenuating circumstances. Things are already awkward enough between Lavender, Parvati, and I, and I'd rather not have that happen to our entire dormitory.

Ah yes, that whole Ron thing. Sorry about that. I sort of did it because I was kind of freaked out about the fact I had been constantly thinking about Neville. I know it isn't shocking that to say that I have been known to kiss a lot of boys, but none them stick around and all make me feel like dirt. Neville was different and is different. I couldn't get him out of my mind and it scared me. So to answer you first question I do genuinely like him. I really really do. Which is why I asked him out. If I wanted just a few stolen kisses I wouldn't ask him to be my boyfriend.

As for how things are in my dormitory I understand. You are the only person I feel I can count or like in my dorm. The other two gossip too much. I would prefer forgetting the kiss with Ron happened.

But to reinforce my answer, Neville means a lot to me.

I'm relieved to hear that. He mentioned that he was going to ask you to the Halloween Ball and I noticed he finally got up the courage to do so yesterday. He really likes you and I'd hate to see both you or him hurt. However, he is a good person and isn't anything like the other boys you've associated yourself with over the years.

You might be able to forget, but I most certainly want. That's two so far. The only one that remains is Parvati. I apologise for wasting so much ink. Lavender and Parvati do gossip quite a lot, but I believe there are other reasons underneath that as to why we don't get along. Though I'd rather not go into all that.

Yeah, he did. He is great. He makes me feel worth something. I really really like him.

Yes, I know there are reasons underneath.

You like him don't you? Ron that is.
I really wish I hadn't kissed him, but just was confused. I am sorry Hermione I really am.

Neville has a way of making people feel like that. And I'm happy for the both of you, really.

Of course I like Ron, we've been friends since first year so it would be rather strange not to by this point. I know what you're asking There's nothing for you to apologise about. Really.

I'm afraid you're going to have to be a bit more specific.

Come on Hermione, your the smartest girl in our year I expect you to know.
You like like Ron don't you? In a romantic way, the way I like Neville.

There is that more specific?

I doubt they would seeing as there will be a lot of supervision, especially by the teachers. There shouldn't be anything to worry about.

Do you reckon something bad will happen? I mean, everyone's talking about drama and proper behaviour and all these things and... well, it worries me a little bit, because this is supposed to be fun, not tedious!

As I just told Neville, I sincerely doubt that anything bad or ridiculous will happen. The teachers will be watching and so will the school prefects during the duration, so things should be relatively calm for the evening.

They might seem pointless to someone like you, but they are in fact quite important and necessary.

Ron said you two decided on dress robes?

A discussion about what to wear? If we're not careful, we're going to wind up sounding like Parvati and Lavender.

We did, actually. He has the new ones that the twins gave him and it's more practical to wear dress robes anyway. It's almost pointless to purchase something like a costume and then only wear it for this one occasion.

Or worse: Romilda. Promise me you'll hex me if I ever sound like those giggle-mouthed wankers, yeah?

Well, that's a practical way to make a decision. For us...it was more Harry's apathy and clucking about having people staring if we wore outlandish get ups. There goes my great idea of going as a box of Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes (for advertising purposes, naturally--I'd be the fever fudge).

Hmm. You can never go wrong with something that matches your eyes or makes your eyes brighter, like blue or purple? You always look lovely, Hermione, it's just a matter of taste!

You don't have to ask for my promise, I'd do it willingly.

Harry's not really one to show himself off more than he already is shown. He wants so desperately to blend in with the crowd that his thought process here is to do just that by not dressing up as something outlandish, as you said. Pity though about not being able to walk around as an advertisement, I'm sure it would have been appreciated.

I wore blue to the Yule Ball - would it be bad taste to do it again? What are you wearing?

I thought Harry would look smashing as a Puking Pastile, personally.

Of course it's not bad taste--it's creating a signature color! Besides, think about how many shades of blue there are in the world. As long as it's a new variant, you'll be spot on.

Besides--blue and red are incredibly flattering together...

Well, right now, I have my violet dress, however, Fleur owled me this morning in a right state of excitement saying that she has something in the exact shade of green as Harry's eyes. What do you think is best--purple or green?

He very well might, but I can't see him willingly agree to going as one.

It's just dress robes, there's should be any sense in making such a bit deal about them. Sure, they have fit and be appropriate for any occasion, but beyond that it shouldn't matter too terribly much.

I guess the violet one? Though, the green one might be a better idea so you won't hurt Fleur's feelings when she finds out you didn't wear it.

Admittedly, the fuss over what to wear and the minutia of it all is both tiresome and obnoxious and slightly demeaning to the gender...but Hermione, there is a spot of fun in the excitement of looking nice. It's like playing costume dress up with yourself!

Oi, getting Fleur cross at me is one of my top life goals. Her whining alone is enough to make me drown myself in a cauldron of hot, steaming love. Good point.
